Co będziecie robić

You never know what could happen when you combine art, history and pastries!

The tour will take us from Prehispanic Mexico-Tenochtitlan to the colonial period and then to Independent Mexico's search for national identity through art.

We'll start at the Government Palace where we’ll learn about Prehispanic Mexican arts and handicrafts through Diego Rivera’s murals.

From there, we’ll visit the first school of art in the Americas, the San Carlos Academy, where the country’s best-known artists all studied.

We’ll take a break to sip a refreshing drink on a terrace where we'll soak in the amazing view of the Templo Mayor archaeological site.

Next, we'll visit a lovely but little-known Baroque church to learn about colonial-era art.

We’ll stop briefly to admire the architecture at the National Museum of Art, the main Post Office, the “House of Tiles,” and a few other places along the way.

We'll stop in at one of the city’s most traditional bakeries to enjoy a pastry.

Finally, if time permits, we’ll have a look at the murals at the National Palace of Fine Arts (Bellas Artes).

In some cases, we can tailor the tour to guests' interests. Route may vary due to closures, weather, etc.
Other things to note
Please make sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk a lot. This tour is listed as "moderate", but we will be covering a lot of ground!

I’m a Mexico City native who's enthusiastic about my city's rich history and culture.

I have a PhD in visual arts, I’ve written more than 150 articles on Latin American arts and culture.

Although I was born and raised here, I've traveled a lot and spent several years living abroad. In my spare time, I'm an avid reader, baker, cook, and cyclist. I also have a knack for finding interesting things going on in the city at any moment!

I'm fluent in both English and Spanish.

Gdzie będziecie

We'll get a feel for the vibrant life at the very heart of Mexico City — the point from which the entire city evolved, once the seat of Aztec power and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

We'll start with Diego Rivera’s murals at the National Palace, stop by the ruins of the Aztecs’ main temple and the take in the art at two relatively unknown jewels: The 16th-Century San Carlos Academy (home to both art and ghosts) and a lovely Baroque church.

Yesica was a wealth of information and had great knowledge outside of the realm of what we anticipated covering during the tour. We jumped smoothly between buildings, churches, sidewalks, and ruins. Would highly recommend this tour, it was the favorite of our time in this lovely city!

The tour is so amazing. Yesica showed us to a bunch of places that are infrequently visited by tourists but have fascinating history and art. Yesica is also extremely knowledgeable about Mexican art and history in general. The terrace cafe she took us to at the end of the trip had the best view of the historic center.

Yesica was an extremely knowledgeable and gracious host for this experience. The coverage of downtown art and cultural insights were excellent, and we had a nice break for snacks and conversation. It is unusual to have an Airbnb experience that lives up to - and exceeds - the description and our expectations.

I would 100% recommend a tour with Yésica - she is SO knowledgeable about art and history. The best thing is that she explains things as interesting stories rather than dates and facts, so this really helped me take in a lot of the information that she gave us. She is also a very lovely person. I would definitely book another tour with her again!
