Co będziecie robić

The Eco-tour has two parts. First, a guided tour of the buildings. There were many buildings that had been added on, torn down and rebuilt from early 1900s. It takes about twenty minutes to tour the inn. We'll explore the old ryokan where we can see hidden doors, a secret passage and traditional Japanese housing design. You will learn how paper is removed and applied to a shoji door.
The second part of the tour is a guided walk and volunteer activity outside. It's called Eco-tour because we talk about things we can do to create sustainable lifestyles. We'll also use our hands and touch the earth. First, we walk along Natori river, gaze at cliffs and hike through jungle paths. Everyone gets gloves and a nokogiri to use for cutting bamboo and other branches. It's a common Japanese hand saw. While we walk, we maintain the trail, cutting and pulling unnecessary branches. Finally, we visit the Rabbit garden and feed the cute little bunnies!

Other things to note
Public transportation is difficult. The bus leaves Ayashi station to Konosu Onsen only a few times per day, so it is necessary to catch the bus in either the early morning or late morning. I can send information about transportation after booking.

I'm a Canadian living in Japan for twenty years. After running a successful English school for ten years, I've moved to a hot spring resort area in the mountains of Akiu in Sendai, Japan. The resort is 100 years old! It had not been open for business since the turn of the century!! After decades of neglect, we are cleaning and reforming the old buildings in the traditional style. I was a landscaper and carpenter in Canada. The nature here is remarkable. It's a vast area I'm cleaning and transforming into a retreat and adventure park for visitors. Bushes, trees and plants are hiding the beautiful sandy beach. We have been cutting, clearing and pulling unwanted branches and dead wood for more than two years here. I'm using natural landscapes in the design of this resort.

Gdzie będziecie

We tour Akiu-Canada and Konosu Onsen. Akiu-Canada is the name for the land. Konosu Onsen is the name of the hot spring and ryokan. The nature is superb here. There are cliffs, stunning Natori river and Okura-san mountain views. The authentic ryokan is a piece of history as well. It has amazing woodwork and antiques. Don't forget your camera! Akiu-Canada is about 30 minutes by car from Sendai station or one hour using public transportation.
