Co będziecie robić

In short, this is a brief experience of being a trial attendee in the Tokyo District Court. There would be no historical tour except showing you the chandelier from the previous court: it is a sort of real Japan tour.

We will attend 3-5 trials randomly, which could be civil, criminal, family, or intellectual property. I will also explain Japanese legal system and some tips(e.g you need to Fax the court to submit documents etc).

The language is an obvious obstacle, but I will do my best to introduce the content in advance or afterwards, or sometimes write notes and show it to you during the trial (depends on atmosphere of the courtroom).

Also, to respect the court order, available number of participants of this experience is limited to 2-3 people or 1-2 group.

I hope that you will gain some new insights on this country and become "trial traveler" after this experience
Other things to note
To enter the court there is a security check. Also, taking photos is prohibited.

In the courtroom, you must turn off electronic devices like smartphones.

I was born/raise/live in Tokyo for 31 years.

I often feel that our court depicts our society in rather unique perspective. It is my pleasure to share you some glimpse of ideas on how this city can be seen from the court.

Gdzie będziecie

We will meet at the main gate of Tokyo District Court.

I will explain about myself and the court briefly, then we will attend 3-5 trials while resting between the trials.

On some cases, we might need to line the queue and get the ticket to attend it.

The court information is not very public and the trial schedule might change depends on updated information. I advise you to have a rather flexible schedule when you reserve this experience.

I enjoyed my time at the court with Hajime very much. He is very passionate about the workings of the court. After attending his tour, I feel I can now go back to the court again and do further research. I recommend Hajime's tour very much if you are interested in the Japanese court system.

I really enjoyed this trip to the courts with Hajime. I learnt some history of the court building as well as gaining insights into the judicial process through sitting in on several hearings. Thank you Hajime for a great morning!

Hajime’s tour offered a unique and interesting insight in the Japanese legal system. We attended several court hearings under which even a murder trial. It was really cool to sneak into the court rooms and experience the atmosphere inside a Japanese court. Obviously all hearings are in Japanese but thanks to Hajime’s explanations we were able to understand what the case was about and what to expect. Hajime is the perfect guide for this kind of tours. He is very friendly and accomodating and knows a lot of interesting things about the court system in Japan and other countries. We also discussed current cases like the Fukushima nuclear disaster trial which was really interesting. After the tour we had a nice lunch near the court. So for everyone who would like to experience a court hearing in Japan this tour is absolutely recommended!

Unusual experience. Definitely worth it. Hajime took us to several cases and explained. what happened. The kids were impressed with the criminal cases. For me the revelation was that the Japanese court proceedings are more laid-back than one would expect. Amazing that we were able to enter the court room itself and sit at no more than 5-15 meters from the judge. Hajime is a perfect host he looked after us with a nice lunch and had some good suggestions for other things to see and helped out finding some stuff on the internet. So for those interested in the legal system an absolute must-do

Hajime is a great source for local insight to the Tokyo court system / current events. He was able to speak Chinese and a bit of French as well. He took us to two hearings and the press room thereafter. During the hearings, he translated Main points and afterward we talked about the details and the court system in general (over coffee). He is very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the courts. He has traveled to other countries and can speak about their hearings as well. Seriously recommend
