Just booked in Poughkeepsie

Just booked in Poughkeepsie
Sleep staring at stars in wine country! Featured in The New York Times, The Today Show & called by Forbes "The World's Most Beautiful Tiny House," the Hudson Valley Glass House is a magical getaway. Just 90 mins from NYC, but a world away. 30 acres of rolling hills give total privacy & isolation as glass walls open up onto endless views of vineyards, orchards, & wildlife (spy coyote, deer, & amazing birds!). Modern comforts (WiFi, A/C, loaded kitchen) mean you don't have to give anything up.
Hi! If you're thinking of booking, please message me first to confirm, and also please read the entire listing to the end as it likely answers any questions you may have... Welcome to The Glass House. Come see why Forbes called it "The World's Most Beautiful Tiny House" and called an "off-grid oasis" on The Today Show. Sleep staring at the stars and feel the stress melt away in this glass-enclosed tiny house (just 180 square feet!) retreat, just 90 minutes from NYC, but a world's away. This is a truly special place, and most people find it surprising that it can exist so close to New York. With all sorts of wildlife coming within inches of the house (don't be surprised if you see coyotes, families of deer, and every type of bird you could imagine--not to mention more butterflies than you've ever seen, depending on the season), this is a truly immersive experience into nature. But despite its small size and isolated location, it is surprisingly luxurious on the inside. The listing includes: -A 180 square-foot glass-enclosed tiny house, offering spectacular 360-degree views of the Hudson Valley and surrounding vineyards and apple orchards -Lots of privacy on a 30-acre farm. -Outdoor dining and lounging furniture, along with access to a fire pit that you can definitely grill on. -A plush queen-sized bed with a super-comfy memory foam mattress and insanely comfortable pillows -A dining table with two chairs for sitting and eating. -A modern stainless-steel kitchen with a mini-fridge, induction cooktop for cooking, microwave, and electric kettle. Despite the small size, it has just about everything but a range oven. -Wi-Fi for keeping in touch with the real world and streaming shows on your personal devices. Also note that while the house is tiny and has a maximum occupancy of two people, I am sometimes able to accommodate larger parties for those bringing tents and willing to camp outside. Please inquire about pricing for such scenarios. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Can I get to the house without a car? A: The house is about 25-minutes driving from the Beacon train station. If you choose not to drive the whole way there are Zipcar pickups at the train station (reserve in advance!) and Uber JUST launched in the area ($20-$30 for the ride from the train). A car is highly recommended (especially if you want to explore the area), but this definitely makes things possible for the car-free—just be sure to show up with everything you need for the stay as the farm is in a rural area that is not particularly walkable. Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? What about a hairdryer? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Same with basic toiletries (unless I happen to be out, which is very rare). Q: Is this house really off the grid? A: Yep! It features solar panels for power, a propane HVAC system for heating and air-conditioning, and a unique dry-flush toilet (more on that in the "Other Things To Note" section below). One exception: You absolutely have working Wi-Fi. Q: How will I receive the key? A: The house features a keyless entry system with a code that lasts as long as your stay. This allows for effortless check-in and entry. Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and I take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Take a look at my reviews—I think you'll find my guests agree! Q: What's up with the cleaning fee? A: I get a lot of questions about this, so I'll just break it down so you understand why it is what it is: All but $10 of that goes directly to my cleaner. She is a professional who does a great job and who I insist on compensating fairly for her work. The dry-flush toilet cartridges cost me about $20 apiece, so the remaining $10 lets me split that cost with guests. (Of course, if you happen to use more than one cartridge, I cover that cost alone). Q: What's my total booking price? A: I honestly have no idea. With fees included, Airbnb only shows the guest, and not the host, the total cost. This figure should be present after you enter your dates. Note that, pricing varies on a daily basis, and Airbnb actually uses some crazy algorithm to adjust it automatically, so I don't actually control this. Q: I am looking for a last-minute stay. Can I make a same-day booking? A: If you're looking for a same-day booking and the place is free, please inquire and I'll try! It depends on whether my cleaning crew can spring into action at the last-minute, which isn't a sure thing. Check-in may also have to be later than the listed time in order to make sure the place is ready. Still, can't hurt to ask. Q: I know it says "No Animals". Can I bring my small/well-behaved dog? A: I love dogs, but there is a farm dog who gets very nervous when other dogs are around, and so we can not allow animals. This is also for your dog's safety, as there are coyotes in the area. Basically: Please don't try to sneak one in--this really doesn't end well. Q: I'm a blogger/YouTuber/influencer. Can I stay for free? A: No. NEW: There's now a second tiny house at the farm. If you have a larger group and are looking to rent both (the new one can hold three people), definitely inquire. Or check it out for yourself here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/29535692 One last thing: I really, really appreciate that you followed directions and read the whole thing. Please put the phrase "Don't throw rocks at glass houses!!" at the top of your message so I know you did so as such bookings tend to go so much smoother! And thanks for hanging in there!
The Glass House is situated on a 30-acre farm in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley. Guests have total privacy, but are joined on the farm by the main farm house, a smaller residence with live-in caretakers that can help out in case of an emergency, and one other tiny house. Around the farm are views of rolling vineyards and apple orchards—many of which are absolutely worth a visit. Downtown Marlboro is minutes away and has a few nightlife and dining options, and the hopping town of Beacon (home of the Dia; Beacon) is about 25 minutes away. Storm King Art Center (a must) is also about 30 minutes away. Also near: New Paltz, Cold Spring Poughkeepsie, and countless other Hudson Valley gems.
  • What a magical and peaceful retreat! My wife and I had such a lovely experience in our first tiny house. Seth really ensures a clean, easy, and enjoyable stay. Go to the FDR museum!!

  • Beautiful tiny house in a beautiful farm setting. Plenty of space for two people with fully functioning appliances and amenities. Very nice outdoor sitting area around a fire pit beneath the starry night.

    Edyta2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very unique space! The view was stunning and peaceful- we even saw deer calmly stroll by! Extremely private and secluded which was also nice. The space was comfortable even though it was so tiny- laid out very well.

  • What a treat! My goal was to have an outdoor experience that was easier and more convenient than camping. We have been thinking about purchasing a camper or high-low so we wanted to test out a tiny house. I thank my lucky stars, (you'll see a lot of them at the tiny glass house while you are outside AND inside) that we found this place! The bed is super comfortable and we slept very well. At night, you can't see the glass, but you can see the stars!!!! This was fantastic. There is enough storage for a long weekend. The kitchen is stocked with necessary equipment and everything is easy to use. The shower is roomy and everything is very clean and new. The dry toilet is easy to use and odor free. The location on the back end of the farm is ideal. We were able to fully relax and unplug from the busy world. This is a great place to clear your head. We enjoyed the fresh eggs daily and loved observing the chickens. The area has many farms and wineries and the views are outstanding. The tiny glass house is very comfortable and I am 6'1". I had plenty of room in the bed and shower. Seth does a great job of explaining all of the details of the tiny glass house and of giving suggestions about the area. To be honest, I was sad to leave this cool, modern and awesome nature retreat. We'll be back.

  • I don't even know where to start...this place is absolutely amazing. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, this is the place for you. The tiny house is easy to get to and is very comfortable. The indoor accommodations are exactly as you see on the site. Everything is clean and surprisingly a lot more space than I thought. I took my wife for a weekend away from the kids to recharge and it was everything we needed. I would definitely suggest this to any couple that is looking for a place to relax and recharge. If you are an city resident looking for a place to get away from it all...stop looking...this is your place. If you need to buckle down and get some work done or write and book/paper/presentation, this is a great place. All of the amenities of a home/hotel but with absolute privacy. The area restaurants are amazing and there is a lot to do during the day. Wifi is great so you can still stay connected and even use an iPad to stream movies/TV at night and the bed is very comfortable. I will 100% be coming back to this place again. Thank you Seth, you are an amazing host and was always available if needed during the booking process as well as while you are staying. 5 stars in my opinion.

  • The Glass House was a really fun place to stay. My main reason for staying there was to "test drive" the Vista model, as I had been interested in getting one of my own. Seth was great with providing information, and getting into the house was easy. The location is great - secluded at the back of a farm. It was a wonderful place to simply enjoy being out in nature. I highly recommend staying at the Glass House, especially if you have any interest in tiny homes/the new generation of mobile homes/campers.

  • It was a beautiful tiny home in a serene and lovely place, the neighbors were helpful and cheerful (except for one) the host was terrific and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

    Arturo2017-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's house was incredible! Perfectly serene, picturesque views, full of thoughtful touches, it was everything it was advertised to be and then some. Seth responded instantly to nearly all my messages and our visit surpassed all our expectations. 10/10!

We are conveniently located within a 10 minute WALK from the Poughkeepsie Train Station and the historic Walkway over the Hudson! Our three family home is nestled in the Little Italy district of the City of Poughkeepsie - Appropriately there is no shortage of Italian bakeries or Italian restaurants in our neighborhood! Four restaurants (Amici's, Milanese, Cosimo's and Emiliano's) and two bakeries (La Deliziosa and Cafe Aurora) to be exact, all within WALKING distance! Good food is definitely not hard to come by in our neck of the woods. WALK on down to the Poughkeepsie waterfront... Dine inside or al fresco overlooking the beautiful Hudson River at the River Station Restaurant. Make sure you try one of the five delicious soups, homemade daily or pop into the historic Ice House on the Hudson for some of their yummy eats! Maybe you're just in the mood to cozy up next to a fire and enjoy a delicious glass of wine? Well then WALK down the street and around the corner to the Nic'L Inn. The ambience and artfully crafted menu never disappoints but be careful because their complimentary fried spaghetti can be addictive. Obviously we enjoy introducing people to our favorite neighborhood spots but lets not take away the fact that your journey to Poughkeepsie is just the gateway to the Hudson Valley. Located within 20 +/- minutes to the Village of New Paltz, Rhinebeck, Beacon, Breakneck Ridge (Hiking), Millbrook and multiple Breweries, Wineries, Distilleries, Orchards and attractions in Historic Hyde Park. No matter the season, no matter the reason, our home is a great place to begin your journey.!
  • A really well designed, cozy unit which seemed newly remodeled with a good eye and an attention to finishing touches. The place was tucked away on a quiet residential street, but was 2-3 blocks away from at least two great restaurants. We had a memorable dinner a couple blocks away at Essie’s, which we highly recommend. We also appreciated the convenient touchpad entry and the Siggi’s yogurt!

  • First time using an Airbnb. The apartment was wonderful! Clean, easy to get places, and quiet. I will definitely be back!

  • This is a very comfortable apartment in a convenient location. All the necessities are there; coffee, microwave, fridge and nice new appliances. You can glimpse the Hudson river and the hills on the other side out of the window, which is very pretty at sunset. The hosts are very helpful and responsive. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

  • We had a great time. Very clean and very comfortable. If you peek through some trees out the front windows you can see the river. The block is very quiet yet in a very convenient part of town. We would absolutely stay here again.

  • This space is adorable and perfect for a weekend getaway. It has everything you need. It's very private and has its own bathroom. The host went out of her way to make sure I got around, since I did not have a car.

    Dianne2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable and clean room in a unique building. The location is great - easy access to both New Paltz and Poughkeepsie - and Elisa was very welcoming, with good suggestions about things to see and places to eat.

    Jennifer2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a private room in a unique home. But, the room is spacious, including a table and couch, and has it's own bath. So it feels more like a small apartment than a room. Bolster pillow for watching TV in bed was awesome. Elisa was a consummate host. Would definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.

    Maureen2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa was so incredibly sweet and kind. The room was perfect and Elisa was very inviting. There was fresh coffee in the coffee machine, water and chocolates ready for us. Would definately recommend this location for anyone needing a place to stay in Poughkeepise. Thanks again!

  • No complaints. All the positive review below are accurate.

    Milan2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa was great, very nice, and knew the history of the area very well, recommended places to eat, visit, site see in the area. Unit is nice and private and fully-contained. Didn't have a chance to look through the gallery as I was in and out pretty quick, but would like to again if I had the chance.

    Todd2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Location is easy to find. Very unique home in quiet setting, a pond in a back of the house. The room is spacious. Feel secluded, but very convenient place, close to main roads. Elisa is very nice host. She is available any time, but leave you alone, so you can go in and out without bothering the host.

    Katsuko2016-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We spent one night there and it was great! Clean, comfortable, easy to get around by car to New Paltz. Coffee in the morning was a nice touch. Friendly vibe, would stay again!

  • We loved the Scandanavian house and would definitely stay here again. So long as you have a car, things in Hyde Park are very convenient and fairly close to the train station. The room was clean and full of wonderful little touches--pretty much had the downstairs as a private area. As everyone else has chimed in, the breakfast is off the hook. Thanks so much Troy--we look forward to seeing you, Ella and Annie again.

  • A stay at Troy's beautiful home in Hyde Park was everything I had hoped for (according to all the other reviews) and more! We checked in on Friday and only stayed a night but he provided us two home-cooked, Norwegian style meals. We felt lucky to be there on Friday as we were part of Troy's Fish Friday dinner party and his friends made us feel welcomed and included. The room we stayed in was clean, the sheets were crisp and had a private bathroom.

    Sarah2015-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had this magical experience at Troy's. He gave us such a personalized Norweigan breakfast that was so artful in its presentation and plain yummy! Troy is welcoming and full of great suggestions as to what to do and see in the area. I highly recommend. You will be blown away!

    Deborah2016-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • I can't wait for another opportunity to visit Troy's magical Scandinavian home. What I thought would be crashing somewhere for the night turned into a relaxing, restorative vacation experience that made me feel like I'd had more than one short night outside of NYC. Troy is truly the most wonderful host I've ever had. He was completely easy to plan with, and even invited me to join him and his friends for a stunning seafood paella dinner the night of my stay. When I showed up having just cut my thumb and bleeding, he whisked me downstairs for first aid, and then insisted that I keep the antibiotic creme. The highlight of my stay with Troy was a beautiful, elaborate Scandinavian breakfast complete with sweetheart waffles, four types of juice, two kinds of cheese, a soft boiled egg, yogurt, coffee, and more. I never wanted to leave. I can't recommend staying with Troy in his lovely home enough. I visited with my partner, and the Duchess room downstairs gave us all of the privacy we could want (and an amazing bed where I slept like a baby), while upstairs Troy gave us all of the hospitality we could dream of.

    Madison2015-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Troy's place to celebrate our recent engagement. It was one of the best decisions we could have made! Troy made our stay unforgettable. He welcomed us into his house and helped us get to know the best of Duchess country: from a wonderful outdoor summer concert, to a tour of the historical Vanderbilt Estate and five star homemade brunch the next day. He was the best host we could ask for. His homemade brunch complete with heart shaped waffles, caviar and candlelight makes it the perfect romantic escape for anyone and we can't wait to come back again!

  • When I was looking through Airbnb's listing for Hyde Park, Troy's place caught my eye with ratings, raving reviews, and the great pictures of his house. One of the things that many reviews have in common is Troy's tremendous hospitality and his Norwegian 3-course breakfast! Upon arrival, my girlfriend and I only had 70% of our weekend planned out, so Troy helped fill in our day with recommendations to go see Olana on our drive back home. Troy is heavily involved with community efforts to make the area visually pleasing and welcoming for tourists, and I learned a lot about the place's history through his stories. We were also grateful for the 3-course breakfast to get our day started. The table was setup with all things Norwegian including some of the dishware, glassware, and of course the food. The food was amazing and we wish that we could've spent more time for breakfast and didn't have to rush off. Troy generously sent us off with a few Norwegian waffles for the road. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our quick vacation away from school and hope to stay again! Maybe next time, though we'll have to check out your other place in Norway :)

  • Do not hesitate one second to stay at Troy's! He is a wonderful and generous host and welcomes his guests not only in his house but also in his home, sharing his passions and culinary many talents... The house is lovely (scandinavian hygge style), very clean, and quiet. The neighborhood is charming and offers many cultural attractions. Thank you Troy, we hope to come back!

  • An ordinary visit to upstate for a long weekend was made extra special by Troy's accommodation. With his lovely charm and impeccable taste, we were able to experience the true beauty of country living that nourished our exhausted city souls. The 3 course breakfast was beautifully presented with a side of culturally stimulating conversation about Norway. What a heart warming experience. Can't wait to return, dear friend. • There are truly not enough words to describe our stay at Troy's. We initially booked the place for style and the dogs, but what we got was so so much more. The space itself is impeccably clean, stylish, and wonderfully curated. Troy is very passionate about Scandinavian culture and we loved reading about it, and hearing about it while we enjoyed his expertly prepared complimentary breakfast. It was worth it just for the food! Troy was so sweet, he even prepared a Baggie of waffles to-go for me! Can't recommend this place enough - just book it already!

  • Troy is a national treasure! (For both US and Norway.) Our stay was spectacular. This was more than just an AIRBNB rental it was a beautiful experience. From the design of the space, to the all the thoughtful touches, the local tips, and the unforgettable and delicious Norwegian Breakfasts. Troy does all this while striking the perfect balance between giving you enough privacy to do your own thing and providing interaction and entertainment when needed. Stop thinking about it and just book it! We hope to return with friends soon. FIVE STAR, SUPER DUPER HOST!!!

    Andrew2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • In addition to a comfy, dreamy bed, Troy 's place offers a relaxing ambiance with a Nordic touch. The breakfast he prepared showed his pride and love of good food, detail, and taste. Overall, the stay made our time in Hyde Park a very enjoyable one.

  • Six Stars ! The home is a little corner of Norway. The breakfast a smorgasbord of Norwegian delacacies. The bed restful. The fireplace warm. The dogs friendly and the host your long lost Scandinavian uncle you never knew you had. Just being there was a vacation! Carin and Robin

No matter the season, no matter the reason, our home is a great place to begin your journey.!
  • They are great hosts, and the space is very neat and stylish! I would recommend this spot for people with cars looking for a convenient place to stay around poughkeepsie. But note that if you don’t have a car it might be hard to get around and the neighborhood could be a little sketchy!

  • Perfect for what I needed. The bed was very comfortable.

    Casey2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised, good communication, very cosy little place. This was a good stop-over for us on our way to visit the Hyde Park sites.

    Carolyn2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very nicely decorated and functional. Cute furnishings and comfy bed. The good: - Parking right next to the house - Plenty of space for 2 guests - Pincode for getting in - no keys The bad: - I had a difficult time getting in touch with the hosts. I messaged them multiple times but there was apparently an issue with the AirBnB app, so I never received any messages from them. Because of this, I texted them and asked them to email me directions for checking-in the day before. But I never received an email or text response. When we arrived on the day of the reservation, I called them, and luckily was able to get the pincode to enter the building. We almost cancelled the reservation because we didn't get any responses until the last minute. The gross: - The morning of our check-out, we found blood on the sheets. I wish we had seen it before we had gone to bed the day before, but we had just returned from a wedding and crashed. We were so shocked that we thought maybe one of us had a cut somewhere and bled on the bed... but nope, it was there before. I guess the sheets were not changed/washed.

  • The apartment was immaculate, the design was beautiful and communication with Regina and Robert was great. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

  • Very nicely done apartment, perfect for a couple or a single traveler. Very well located for Hyde Park and the Hudson Valley.

  • Great spot.

    Candice2018-07-30T00:00:00Z

Built over 100 years ago as a chicken hatchery, this gorgeous little gem has been fully restored as a two-story guest cottage. Located in New Paltz just minutes off Exit 18 on I-87 in a very private, quiet, country setting. Only ten minutes from New Paltz Village & SUNY New Paltz and set back on a lightly traveled road for those long summer strolls. You don't even need a car to get here! It's just 12 minutes by taxi from the New Paltz Bus Station or bring your bike up and cycle everywhere!
The Little Yellow Cottage displays much of it's original construction including post and beam, stained glass in the cupola (even an original stained glass portrait of Abraham Lincoln!) and a screened in porch for breakfast with a view or just hanging out. Inside you’ll find a spiral staircase and all the 21st century amenities you’d expect, including radiant in-floor heat, AC, TV, wi-fi and laundry in the full kitchen. One queen bed sleeps two on the ground level and one Murphy bed sleeps a single on the lower level. Private picnic table right outside. And the postal code may say Highland, but the Little Yellow Cottage is really in New Paltz!
Check out the funky art hub of New Paltz or SUNY New Paltz just 10 minutes away or climb the Shawanagunk Mountains 15 minutes away. You don’t even need a car! Bring your bike up on the bus or train and take a taxi ($12) to the Little Yellow Cottage. Cycle the 20 minutes into New Paltz or even spend a day on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail also just 20 minutes away. Talk a long walk on a quiet country road and snap a selfie at the tranquil Black Creek just a minute away.
  • We loved our stay at the Little Yellow Cottage! The cottage was charming and clean, exactly as pictured. We especially loved the screened porch and the picnic table outside. Justin was very helpful and communicative during our whole stay, answering all of our questions in a timely manner. The booklet that he provided us with suggestions for New Paltz was also a wonderful touch. This was by far one of our best Airbnb experiences yet, and we hope to be back soon!

    Natasha2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • The yellow cottage is so charming! We loved the natural light and the screened in porch was amazing. Justin, thank you so much for the hospitality! We love your little place!

    Matthew2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Justin's place was a real gem! This Little Yellow Cottage is neat, clean, and has a warm and welcoming décor. The bed is very comfortable, and you will find all the necessary amenities and then some! The porch is a bonus! It was so peaceful sitting out there both mornings with coffee and evenings with a glass of wine. You will not regret booking this lovely little place!

    Dianne2018-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • I spent a very peaceful 8 days in this space resting while on a trip to the area for business. It was a welcome reprieve from the local hotels and an astonishing and whimsical space. Justin was attentive and detail-oriented in all communication with me and the space was great. Definitely consider this lovely place when traveling to the area.

    Jon2018-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • The little yellow cottage was even better than expected! Very clean and has everything you need. An incredible place to get away and be in nature and still so close to downtown New Paltz. An awesome and unique place that has it all!

    Timothy2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Justin’s place is great - very modern, sparkling clean and very well located. Just be aware it is on the smaller side, so you wouldn’t be spreading out as a family or large group.

    Preeti2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable place just a few minutes away from New Paltz or Highland. We especially loved the screened sun room, where we spent every morning and ate meals. Very tiny space, so be prepared for that.

    Jeff2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • In addition to the charm factor and the pristine cleanliness of the cottage, the design of the interior was both unobtrusive and striking once you paid attention to it. The high ceiling in its cheerful light blue and white paint and all of the windows made the room seem much larger than it is, and the closets on either side of the bed were adorable and functional. Also terrific how everything fit in the attractive mini-kitchen/ laundry room/ extra bedroom downstairs. Many thoughtful touches throughout made it an extra special stay. Would love to return

This spacious suite is peaceful, & wooded with separate entrance, patio, wifi, full kitchen, bathroom (small shower), queen bed, sleeper sofia, TV (uses fire stick, wifi & blu-ray, no cable) Local (seasonal) sites to see: Walkway over the Hudson, FDR Home & Library (Hyde Park, 14 mi.away), Culinary Institute (11 Mi), Vassar College, Highland Landing Park, Old Kingston (original site of NYS Capital), SUNY New Paltz, Antique stores of NP, Huguenot Village, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Mtn House.
We're unique because we live in a rural setting, yet within a few miles of - Mohonk, apple orchards, vineyards, 5 colleges, The Walkway Over the Hudson, etc. We also are 10 minutes from the train to NYC. *If you come from NYC by train - we offer pickup roundtrip for $10 (please make sure you ask if you need this.)
We fondly call our neighborhood, "the Outback," because we're in the woods. 1. The biggest plus is the peacefulness and we are centrally located near SUNY New Paltz and Vassar Colleges. There are also 2 community colleges nearby as well. 2. We regularly have a family of wild turkeys, deer, and red tailed hawks coming through the yard. Of course the usual chipmunks, ground hogs and squirrels. We even had a huge, beautiful large Owl land right outside the Suite window this past spring.
  • Kit's place was exactly as described. Kit was super helpful with check-in and other details. The place was quiet, which allowed me to prepare well for the next day and rest. I greatly appreciated her hospitality throughout my visit.

  • Kit and Mark are wonderful hosts. Checking in was a breeze and they have thought of even the tiniest details to make the space comfortable. Their home is very peaceful and quiet. Their place is well described and a great location to explore the Hudson Valley. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

    Travis2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The place was clean and comfortable. Kit is a great host and the location of the house was convenient to all the places we wanted to explore during our weekend stay.

    Lyndsey2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay. Providing food in the fridge was so thoughtful - even almond milk to cater to my dietary restrictions. Having a kitchen with handy full size washer dryer was awesome. And the forested yard was lovely - I spent a peaceful morning on the patio watching the leaves fall.

    Kim2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • It's not every day you get lucky enough to check into an air bnb with a fully stocked kitchen. There were frozen dinners of all types as well as fresh bread, eggs, and several types of milk in case we didn't want to venture out for a meal. This place is very pretty, tucked into the woods. It was a getaway for us, very peaceful, and I would recommend it to anyone.

    Cameron2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay with a lovely couple. Super hosts. Hope to come back next year.

  • Kit was a very gracious host and made the entire stay simple and stress free. The basement apartment is perfectly set up for a private stay with all the amenities you would need - full kitchen, small private bathroom, and even a washer/dryer. Check in and out was a breeze and Kit provided great communication and instructions.

    William2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay at this airb&b! Kit was very flexible with our arrival time after our flight was delayed. The place was exactly as described in the listing and pictures. Overall, we had a nice time in Highland!

  • What a wonderful experience! The space is fantastic: a very comfortable private suite with large-screen TV, free Internet access, working fireplace, private bath, private entrance, and garage! Veronie has great taste, and the suite is immaculately clean and beautifully appointed, complete with comfy Calvin Klein pillows, Nautical comforter, and towels so fluffy I went online to buy some for home! But above all, Veronie missed no opportunity to make us feel welcome: scented candles burning before we arrived; mini soaps, shampoos, etc. In the bathroom in case we forgot anything; a mini fridge stocked with water and a coffee maker with coffee and teas for us. Though we spent only a short while talking, we found Veronie fascinating and friendly, and happy to make recommendations about the area--and she was just a phone call or a text away for anything we needed. We couldn't be more pleased with our stay and hope our travels bring us back to the Hudson Valley, where we would certainly stay with Veronie again!

    Albert2015-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • My stay here was fantastic. The hostess is a great woman and excellent host. I loved the washer/dry accessibility as well as the fireplace and thermostat. the space is completely private too, which is a huge plus. I would definitely stay here again and I plan on it! If you're in town, definitely come here :)

    Marcus2016-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Veronie was very communicative about how to access the space. The place was as pictured. The only problem I had was that the mattress was too hard for my taste. Beyond that, everything went smoothly.

  • The host canceled this reservation 44 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • Another great stay at Veronie's place!

    Daria2016-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Place very clean. Just as shown in pics. Check in and check out very easy although I arrived at night. Verónica was very helpful even lend me her iron. I was surprised how close it was to big stores like Kohl's and Rite Aid

    Lissette2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Veronie's 'Home Away From Home', was a nice respite from a hotel stay. It was a relaxing and quiet overnight stay. Veronie's timely responses were helpful to me as it was my first AirBnB booking. I only met with Veronie at check in, but it was clear if I needed anything, she would be available. The rooms were spotless and the bed was and comfortable. I would stay again whenever in the area.

    Julia2016-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful room! Very clean and comfortable. Veronie was welcoming, but not intrusive, and the room was private and easily accessible. Would definitely stay here again.

A snug, rustic getaway only 75 miles from New York City. Our newly renovated barn is near fine restaurants and the banks of the Hudson River. Visit Storm King or the Walkway over the Hudson, go hiking, travel our Craft Beverages, Distilleries and Wine Trail! Take in New Paltz, Hyde Park, Woodstock, Rhinebeck for fun shops, restaurants and history. A truly gracious space with top reviews, we are easy to get to by train or car and Uber is available. Have a wonderful getaway in the Hudson Valley!
I am told again and again that our photos don't reflect the beauty and size of the space. It is quite large and very pretty! We hope you will love the antiques, artwork, and amenities. Fully renovated, it has a large great room, a galley kitchen, a dining area, a lounging/TV area, a sitting and reading corner, and a queen sleeper sofa. The separate bedroom has a queen sized bed and a washer and dryer. There is a deck for lounging, al fresco dining and enjoying the gardens. We supply handmade soaps, fair trade coffee, and Sonoma linens and high speed wifi. We are located in an old Quaker part of the village of Milton. The barn was used for the gardens and greenhouses that were part of the original larger property. There are beautiful gardens all around the house and the river is at the foot of the hill! There is also a lake behind the house and an old Quaker cemetery next door. Very friendly neighbors! However this property is not a farm; it is in an active neighborhood with country life going on. The barn was originally used for the gardens, not farm animals. Since we live on property and have close neighbors we ask that you be respectful if you are returning late at night by being quiet and turning off outside lights. Unfortunately we don't feel that our space is suitable for children under 12.
We are very central to everything the Hudson Valley offers The Poughkeepsie train station is 5 miles away and taxis, Uber, car rental and Zipcars are available from the station. We are within a short driving distance from Vassar, Marist, SUNY New Paltz, and several other colleges and schools. A partial list of attractions and distances: In Milton and Marlborough We are very fortunate to have a world class music and art venue in the neighborhood. Please make sure to drop by THE FALCON for brunch or dinner, drinks, and amazing artwork and music! We also have many fine vineyards in town; you can visit them by following our very own Shawangunk Wine trail Bad Seed Hard Cider Tasting Orchards- Fruit picking Riverfront Park Nearby Another local claim to fame, the Walkway Over the Hudson, is in Highland NY, 4 miles north. It is the highest pedestrian walkway in the world and a breathtaking experience! Make sure to take it in, it is easy to find and has lots of parking. Rail Trail Biking and Hiking-Ulster and Dutchess County Fanny Reese Park- Highland NY. Hiking Minnewaska State Park, Gardiner NY. Hiking and Rock Climbing Poughkeepsie - 4 miles: The Bardovan Theater Shopping and Restaurants the Chance Theater Civic Center Locust Grove Historic home of Samuel Morse The Ranch Skydiving Gardiner NY New Paltz -10 miles Shopping and restaurants Hiking and Climbing the "Gunks" Hyde Park- 12 miles Shopping and Restaurants Franklin D Roosevelt Home Hyde Park- 12 miles Vanderbilt Mansion Hyde Park -13 mile Storm King Art Center Cornwall NY, 20 miles West Point Military Academy Tours and Museum- 24 miles Beacon NY- 14 miles Galleries and restaurants DIA Art Foundation Colleges Marist 7 miles Culinary Institute 9 miles (several restaurants on site, reservations required) Vassar- 9 miles Mount Saint Mary 11 miles SUNY New Paltz 11 miles Kingston is 15 miles away and there are just too many attractions to list but I will mention the Rondout waterfront is amazing and you can rent kayaks there at A Day Away Kayak Rentals. Amazing restaurants and Maritime museum, lighthouse tours, etc!
  • It was especially nice to have the outside lights always turned on for us when we arrived in the dark after a long day of exploring the area. The home is very well-appointed--and we really could not have had a more pleasant stay!

  • Jennie's place was just lovely. Better/bigger than expected. Super clean, warm and cosy. You could tell that great attention had been paid to the renovation of the Barn. We would deffo stay again if/when in the neighborhood.

    Fiona2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • The location is perfect! Enjoyed both Minnewaska State Park and the Walk over the Hudson. Very spacious and comfortable living quarters with the exception of the bathroom which is tiny - it works and is functional and OK for a couple of days with just 2 people but probably good to be mentally prepared for a small bathroom ahead of time. Very clean and well kept. Would consider returning again. Very gracious and considerate hosts.

My warm & inviting ranch home has a true homey feeling. It comfortably accommodate 4 people (please unreported guest will be charged extra $15 per person per night just be honest about it); located in heart of Hyde Park. Just mins to Culinary Institute of America and Marist College; perfect for parents attending graduations or orientations , FDR Presidential Library, Vanderbilt Mansion and Walkway over the Hudson all within mins away.
This beautiful newly renovated ranch has 2 bedrooms and a good size bathroom with laundry unit; fully equipped kitchen with outdoor fenced in patio. There's a 2 good size sofas for guests in the living room to hang out and watch the ball games. There is a dining table will seat 4 people and 2 extra bar stools with island in the kitchen.
This neighborhood was built 1950s; its literally 3 mins from FDR Presidential Library by car. 6 mins from Vanderbilt Mansion, Culinary Institution of America about 3 mins drive and that makes this house so appealing
  • Cynthia was an excellent host - extremely communicative and quick to respond. Her house was lovely, clean and comfortable, with thoughtful touches including snacks and to-go cups for Keurig coffees. It was located perfectly for our trip to the Culinary Institute and easy to get to from the Poughkeepsie train station by Uber - no car needed. We walked to the local Stop & Shop and Dunkin Donuts in just a few minutes. We will definitely look to stay here again on future trips to the area!

  • We absolutely love this little house. The kitchen and bathroom are spacious, modern, well-equipped, and sparkling clean. The bedrooms are cozy and bedding sets are very comfortable. Cynthia is very responsive and makes sure we have everything we need (she provided a play-pen for my toddler and it works well). She is considerate to have all the supplies available, including oil, salt, shampoo, body wash, clean towels, and even oatmeal, juice, and snacks, which made the kids very happy. The host must has a good taste. The house is beautiful with quality kitchen utensils and bedding sets. Strongly recommend.

  • What we enjoyed most about Cynthia's was the complete privacy. The website stated we'd have it, and it was delivered as promised. Beyond that, her home is clean and centrally located. We were just minutes from the CIA, FDR's, the Vanderbilt Mansion and downtown Poughkeepsie. Moreover, Cynthia's communications were prompt and informative. We'd recommend Cynthia's to anyone interested in staying in the region!

  • What a find! The studio was exactly as pictured- spotless, stylish, cozy, and with the most incredible views of the river! You couldn't get closer to the water if you tried. Jim's place had everything we needed. We went expecting some potential noise from boats and the train (the studio is very close to the tracks), however, we had no problems at all with noise. The train noise lasted about 5 seconds when it went by, and we both slept right through it at night. The swiveling TV was a nice touch, as we could enjoy Hulu and Netflix from the living room area or the bedroom. Overall, we would highly recommend Jim's studio, and hope to stay again in the future.

    Leann2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The layout on Jim's place is amazing! Everything looks out large glass windows onto the Hudson River. Beautiful. The place as well stocked. Bathroom basics like shampoo conditioner and soap. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots plans and flatware. The gas grill outside means you can eat on the wraparound deck! Bed was very comfortable and white crisp sheets were great to sleep in. The TV is even mounted so you can pull the TV out to watch it in bed :) If you are a light sleeper, this place might not be right for you -- the train will go by at night or early in the morning. We were fine after closing the windows. The light is also amazing -- remember to put down shades/ do AC accordingly. Jim was communicative and helpful. We loved his place and would stay here for the comfortable cottage and the AMAZING view!

    Philip2018-06-26T00:00:00Z

  • Little out of the way cottage right over the water. Nice private spot. Great view. Perfect to spend a few days relaxing.

  • This is a wonderful and unique airbnb. The privacy, the quality amenities, and especially the deck and view as you relaxed over (not just overlooking) the Hudson River made us want to never leave. We did in fact enjoy many meals we brought in rather than eat out. The proximity to Hyde Park activities was perfect. And Jim is very easy to communicate with. We enthusiastically recommend this as a couple's getaway!!.

    Craig2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible spot! Modern amenities, extremely clean, and the best view on the Hudson River. Centrally located to all the sights in Hyde Park. We look forward to staying here again for our next visit to Hudson Valley!

  • Jim's place is amazing. The space was modern and perfectly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Huge windows show off a beautiful view of the Hudson River, and there's a deck (with a grill!) to get even closer to the water. The TV swivels so you can watch from the bed or the chairs in the living room area. Jim also included thoughtful extras, like shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower and bottles of water in the fridge. We didn't really use the kitchen during our stay, but there is a full kitchen! Jim's communication was prompt and helpful, he gave us lots of recommendations of places to go in the area, and the check-in process was very easy. Would definitely stay here again!!

POUGHKEEPSIE: Home to 4 colleges (Vassar, Marist, Dutchess Community & The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park), Poughkeepsie is both a college town and a city in transition with a diverse blue collar urban community. With close proximity to restaurants and cultural destinations, Poughkeepsie allows you to experience the conveniences of “small city” life while only being a 10 minute drive from the country. A historic industrial port city, Poughkeepsie is currently going through an exciting resurgence, characterized by a grassroots local food movement, farm-to-table restaurants, and a number of revitalization projects, including the renowned Walkway Over the Hudson, the world’s longest pedestrian bridge spanning the width of Hudson River. The Walkway connects the Dutchess County and Ulster County rail trails, making Poughkeepsie a destination for bike enthusiasts. Vassar College and the city’s south side also make for wonderful bike routes with cute residential streets, historic homes, and lots of trees. We love Poughkeepsie for its diversity – its people, its culture – and the way it encompasses the full socio-economic spectrum, from its pristine college campuses to the developing commercial zone and restaurant scene in the historic main street corridor. Poughkeepsie is an exciting place with a unique energy, and an ideal home base for experiencing the rest of the Historic Hudson Valley. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Gray Street, where the guest house is located, is a residential, tree-lined street in a transitioning neighborhood 5 minutes from Vassar College. The neighborhood is a blend of everything from young entrepreneurs, academics, government workers, tradespeople and low income families. The guest house sits across from Forbus Butternut Park, a 1-acre greenspace overseen by a local non-profit. There is a church on the other side of the park, and the Poughkeepsie High School and football field is about 2 blocks away. During the day, kids sometimes play in the street, but for the most part it's very quiet since Gray Street isn’t a major thoroughfare. AROUND THE REGION: Because Poughkeepsie is centrally located, it makes for a great jumping off point to explore the rest of the Hudson Valley region. Towns like Beacon, New Paltz, Rosendale, Millbrook, Hyde Park and Rhinebeck are all within an easy drive with lots of things to see along the way. Hudson, The Catskills, Cold Spring, Phoenicia and the Berkshires all make for wonderful day trips – full of meandering country drives, antiquing, hiking, fishing, wine-tasting, museum-hopping, or cooling off in a swimming hole. I run a blog that’s dedicated to travel, food and culture in the region called An Upstate of Mind, and I’m happy to send along recommendations for our favorite spots tailored around whatever you like to do. The surrounding Upstate NY towns are lovely, but to make for a full day, it’s sometimes good to combine a few destinations into a “mini road trip” that lets you soak in the local flavor and experience the sprawling natural settings the Hudson Valley is known for.
  • Marist College Family Weekend was made a great deal more manageable staying at the very welcoming Gray House. It was raining all weekend so having a nice "home" to hang out at and nap and watch movies in with our Freshman, was great. Everything was super clean and eclectic, just the way we like it!

  • This was my first time using airbnb and Seth's hospitality exceeded all my expectations. I came up to Poughkeepsie with a small group of friends and he was accommodating to our schedules and made us feel welcome and taken care of. The apartment was clean, beautifully decorated, and ready for us upon arrival. Our group really didn't have an agenda for the weekend, but we found ourselves referring back to Seth's detailed recommendations. He was knowledgable about the area and was always quick to answer any questions we had. The weekend we were there it had snowed a couple of inches and Seth had even shoveled the driveway and brushed the snow off our car! I would definitely come back for another weekend outing and would also recommend this space for anyone who is looking for a breather away from the city.

    Becky2015-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • my husband and i stayed at seth's place for three nights so that we could visit our daughter, who was doing a summer program at Vassar. it was just perfect for this!! a few quick minutes from campus, near tons of great restaurants, so comfortable, so cute - so much better than the best western!! seth's place is super spacious and clean and has everything you need. plus, he's decorated it so beautifully!! his recommendations for restaurants and activities are super good as well. we'll definitely always stay here when visiting poughkeepsie!!

    Cindy2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's house was just perfect and exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to escape the city and we found everything we needed. We highly recommend Seth's house. Seth is very helpful and will give you all the information about restaurants and attracctions. Look out the windows at night and if you are lucky you will be able to see classy deers walking around.

    Sabrina2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Seth is a pro when it comes to his neighborhood. His recommendations were incredible, creative, cozy and spot on. The place is so incredibly beautiful and cozy. Feels so comfy and truly a gem. Would love to stay here again.

    John2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home, Seth was in contact with us frequently, giving us great recommendations for things to eat and places to eat. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Norge Room is one of 3 rooms in my home. This room has a brand new double bed, cable tv and shared bathroom. It is perfect for 1 person or two smaller people. Down and feather comforter and pillows. This room is a shared bath with the Euro Room. My Dutchess County room has a private bath and entrance.
A Scandinavian Comtemporary home with a great host!
Wonderful neighborhood up from the Hudson RIver. River views in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Quiet with a sound of the train whistle
  • Troy’s home is spacious and beautifully furnished. Our room was comfortable with good linens, and the shared bathroom functioned as our private bath. It was sparkling clean. As noted by other reviews, Troy makes a spectacular Norwegian breakfast, with multi courses. It was great to share breakfast conversation with Troy and the other four guests. We highly recommend Troy’s home. And there is so much to do in Hyde Park and surroundings.

    Carol2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Troy gives dignity to air bnb and really makes the experience what it should be. We were stunned by the 2 wood fireplaces, 3 course breakfast and many candles. Troy is an active member in his community and loved by many. He is part of the 1% on air bnb to provide fresh herbs and kale from his garden in December. Troy even took us to the Vanderbilt Mansion to get us free entry to a tour. Troy's house is clean and cozy, and our New Years was special with fondu and homemade pizza! Troy goes above and beyond the call of duty and is a natural host. This was my first air bnb stay and I'm not sure that I'll go back to hotels anytime soon.

    John2016-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Welcoming and flexible host. Two friendly happy dogs. Quiet and serene home that encouraged unplugging and connecting with others. Amazing Scandinavian breakfast. Looking forward to visiting Troy again.

    Kelly2015-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Troys Airbnb is truly a bed and breakfast. His home is spacious, beautiful, and CLEAN! We had no sense that we were two of six guests staying with him this weekend, until we all sat down for a delicious breakfast together. Troy’s got great tips about the area too! He’s got two loving dogs, who DO NOT stink up the house at all. 10/10 would go back.

    Olivia2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful experience. My room was a nice, clean, comfortable room in a delightful house on a quiet street. Troy is an exceptional host - going 'above and beyond' what most airbnb hosts do. He prepared an incredible breakfast spread every day with some interesting new items that I got introduced to. I was in Hyde Park to attend a course at the CIA and Troy made suggestions of what to see in the area during my down time. He took his time to give me a tour of the Vanderbilt gardens where he volunteers and accompanied me to another site. I never felt like a paying customer and looked forward to returning 'home' each night after a long day of cooking. I highly recommend staying with Troy and his 'girls' (two beautiful well-behaved dogs) if you are in Hyde Park for recreation, the CIA or business.

    Nick2015-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a joyful visit with Troy, "the girls" (sweet dogs) other guests and his dear friends! Like stepping into the most beautiful of IKEA vignettes, I was transported into a decorating magazine yet simultaneously relaxed and welcomed. My room was very comfortable and everything was immaculate. The gardens and view are breathtaking- I set up my yoga mat in the spacious living room and practiced to the jazzy tunes Troy played and overlooked the tops of the trees. Location is perfect! Will be sure to return!

    Karin2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I were attending a retreat at Omega Institute (about 20 minutes away) and Troy's home was a perfect place to stay. If airbnb had ratings like hotels, Troy's home would be five stars, without a doubt. His hospitality is above and beyond expectations. The house and rooms are clean and comfortable. You won't believe the breakfast spread! Saturday night he offered to grill for us if we just bought the meat - he had prepared salad and side dishes to accompany the meal. The place is simply magical! We loved his dogs as well. I think they were the highlight for my daughter. Well, the waffles were high on the list for her too! Troy was kind enough to give me the recipe. Look no further - book with Troy!

    Celeste2015-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Troy was an excellent host--he made us breakfast and was highly attentive to our needs. We enjoyed chatting with him and had a lovely stay in his home.

Keeping you toasty: High efficiency split system A/C with heat pump, LP furnace with thermostat. Baseboard heat included We can accommodate up to three people- Camping and tented options available (you provide the tent) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Can I get to the house without a car? A: The house is about 20-minutes driving from the Beacon train station. If you choose not to drive the whole way there are Zipcar pickups at the train station (reserve in advance!) and Uber/LYFT launched in the area ($20-$30 for the ride from the train). A car is highly recommended (especially if you want to explore the area), but this definitely makes things possible for the car-free—just be sure to show up with everything you need for the stay as the farm is in a semi-rural area that is not particularly walkable. Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? What about a hairdryer? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Including Keihls + Glossier body products Q: How will I receive the key? A: The house features a keyless lockbox that has a one time code Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and I take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Q: What's up with the cleaning fee? A: I get a lot of questions about this, so I'll just break it down so you understand why it is what it is: All of (except10$) that goes directly to my cleaner. She is a professional who does an exceptional job and who I insist on compensating fairly for her work. A: No. One last thing: I really, really appreciate that you followed directions and read the whole thing. Please put the phrase "I see Moonshadows!" at the top of your message so I know you did so as such bookings tend to go so much smoother! And thanks for hanging in there!
Vineyards, Orchards, and wine trails and nature. The tiny house is situated on a 30-acre farm in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley. Guests have total privacy but are joined on the farm by the main farm house, a smaller residence with live-in caretakers that can help out in case of an emergency, and one other tiny house. Around the farm are views of rolling vineyards and apple orchards— we are on the Shawangunk wine trail and literally minutes away from Bad Seed orchards and other cider houses. Downtown Main St. is minutes away and has a few lovely nightlife and dining options, and the hopping town of Beacon (home of the Dia; Beacon) is about 20 minutes away. Storm King Art Center (a must) is also about 25 minutes away. Also nearby are Woodstock, Hudson, Kingston, New Paltz, Cold Spring Poughkeepsie, and countless other Hudson Valley destinations.

Relax in a tastefully-appointed early 1900s Craftsman home. Beautiful natural light with views overlooking College Hill Park. An easy drive to Beacon, Rhinebeck, Millbrook, New Paltz, Hudson and the Catskills. A short walk to The Walkway Over the Hudson & Dutchess County Rail Trail.
A welcoming turn of the century Craftsman home located at the end of a small private street overlooking Poughkeepsie's largest green space, College Hill Park (once the grounds of a women's college). Guest Rooms 1 & 2 on the second floor feature one queen-sized bed and one full-sized bed respectively. Included with your stay: - Bedding, towels and additional linens - Wireless high-speed internet - TV (Cable & Apple TV) - Dishwasher - Microwave - Gas stove & oven - Refrigerator & freezer - Outdoor gas grill - Cooking utensils, mixing bowls, pots & pans - Dishes, eating utensils, etc. - Coffee maker (drip) - Coffee, coffee filters & tea - Hairdryer - Air conditioning
POUGHKEEPSIE: What we love about Poughkeepsie is its diversity – its people, its culture – and the way it encompasses the full socio-economic spectrum – from the pristine campus at Vassar to the developing commercial zone and restaurant scene in the historic main street corridor. With close proximity to restaurants and cultural destinations, Poughkeepsie allows you to experience the conveniences of “small city” life while only being a 10 minute drive from the country. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The house is located on a quiet dead end street overlooking College Hill Park, Poughkeepsie’s largest greenspace. There are only 6 houses on the street and all the neighbors know each other. It’s a family-friendly, chill environment. We’re a block away from the Dutchess County Rail Trail, leading to the Walkway Over the Hudson (about a 10 minute walk). Reservoir Street is part of a blue collar and light commercial neighborhood. Because of its proximity to the park, the area around the house is quiet and even slightly secluded feeling since the rolling landscape blocks out the activity from the central part of the city.
  • This is a beautifully appointed house on a quiet street in a fairly safe portion of Poughkeepsie near the Hyde Park line. Very communicative host and a good launching pad for those exploring the Hudson River Valley or visiting Vassar, Marist, or the Culinary Institute.

  • We had a great stay in this house. Everything was very clean and tastefully decorated. It was also centrally located to all that we wanted to do. The host was very helpful with any suggestions of things to do in the area and was easy to communicate with. We would definitely stay again.

  • This a very cute home full of interesting artwork and antiques. The home was clean and as advertised. Having breakfast in the front veranda area was a highlight in the mornings! Seth left very detailed instructions and explanations about the house, which itself was well stocked with all the essentials. Seth was very helpful in describing the middle Hudson Valley region and places to visit and good places to eat. Definitely recommend!

  • I very much enjoyed our stay. Me and my spent most of the time on Vassar's campus but the house was close enough to get back and forth quickly and very cozy. Seth was in touch and provided very detail instructions about the house and great recommendations for restaurants and things to do.

  • Seth has a cozy and lovely spot in Poughkeepsie. Six of us left the city for a relaxing weekend, and had such a pleasant time. Seth provided us with recommendations, directions, and all sorts of accommodating suggestions. Great house, great host.

    Liz2014-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect spot for my friends and I (three couples, one baby) to be slightly removed from — but still able to participate in — the busy-ness of our 10-year reunion at Vassar. Plus the house is BEAUTIFUL and so lovely to spend time in. So well furnished, decorated, and supplied — everything we needed. And the location at the end of a quiet dead-end street right up against college hill park was ideal. There was a playground in the park that my son loved, and he enjoyed the Mid Hudson Children's Museum as well. I do wish we had been walking distance from the Vassar campus but you can't have it all!

    Amelia2017-06-12T00:00:00Z

Our place is all about comfort and convenience! It is under 5 mins from the NYS Thruway and not far from public transport. Close to nature, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, rock climbing, skydiving, Walkway Over the Hudson, Rail Trails and much more. Located less than 10 mins. from the fun and friendly village of New Paltz and in the heart of the amazing Hudson Valley full of activities, farms, restaurants and bars. The house is great for couples, solo adventurers and business travelers.
Our charming farmhouse is set on approximately one acre. The back of the property is forest, with many beautiful old trees around. There has been several exciting wildlife sightings, like foxes, bald eagles, turtles and more! The house is spacious, clean and welcoming. It is never a full time residence so it is not cluttered with daily living items. When you walk into the house you enter the well-stocked, eat-in kitchen (which guests have complete but shared access to). Up the stairs and to the right you will find a beautifully and thoughtfully prepared master bedroom with natural light, views of gorgeous trees and amenities including a Sealy Posturpedic King Size bed, high quality bedding, room darkening shades, TV with streaming capabilities (BYOL--bring your own login-info), a window unit air conditioner (during the summer months), a free-standing fan and an empty dresser and closets for your use. Attached to the bedroom is the master bathroom that will be private to our guests. Both the bedroom and bathroom is private and lockable for the duration of your visit.
The house is situated in a mixed use area, which makes for many great conveniences. Very close by there is a mini-market with a deli, a liquor store, a diner, a gas station and a great Mexican Restaurant. Down the road there's some classic Hudson Valley farmland with an orchard that has a great local farm store, has hard cider tastings and has gourmet wood fired pizzas overlooking the awesome orchard landscape during the warmer months. The house is backed by forest and the yard has several beautiful old trees. A few things to note about the nearest neighboring properties. Since the area is mixed use, there are residential homes, as well as a small water treatment facility, a garden nursery and a backyard firewood business next door. We have rarely experienced issues relating to these neighboring properties. It’s just kind of a unique neighborhood. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
  • Such a wonderful set up. Liz and Matt were great hosts, and the house itself couldn’t have been cozier, despite the snow outside. I had the entire place to myself, and I really felt at home. I would absolutely stay here again, and highly recommend it to anyone!

  • A clean, safe, comfortable and convenient place to stay. A great value for the convenient location. Unlike a previous review I read, I liked the fact there were no curtains on the kitchen windows. We stayed on a weekend and had the place to ourself but during the week the house is shared with a landscaping business. Everything was clean, private, quiet and well equipped. I would return for another stay.

  • 11 out of 10 - the very best. Kindest people, very generous, thoughtful about the big things (arrival, keys, communication) and the little extra things (mints, bike storage, kitchen usage, food, directions, etc.) My friend also stayed with me for his first Airbnb night - I told him this is likely the best Airbnb experience he will ever have :) Thanks Loraine!

  • My husband and I had a great time on our trip to the Hudson River Valley this past weekend. Loraine and her husband were great hosts. The house is very comfortable and is located in a safe, quiet neighborhood. The weather wasn't cooperative or I would have taken a swim in the backyard pool! Would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay!

    Molly2015-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was great. Friendly and cosy.

    Nilay2016-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the blue room, which was comfortable and cheerful, as described. Loraine and her family were all very friendly, and great hosts who clearly thought through how to address guests' needs and comfort. The entire home was cozy, welcoming, and lively. It felt like we were there to stay with friends we simply had not met before! Would highly recommend it.

  • My girlfriend and I had an amazing stay at Nna's place. It was beautiful and cozy and even better than the pictures have shown. They were helpful with any need we had and even showed us a special place to view the sunset. We would love to come back. We really didn't want to leave!!

  • Nna and Billiam were incredible hosts. They were beyond helpful in assisting us to become acquainted with the area. The space was adorable, clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this rental to anybody interested. Great experience, beautiful area.

  • Nna and Billiam are great hosts! They greeted us warmly when we arrived, showed us around the house, and welcomed us with apples from their farm! They also suggested great restaurants and other places to go nearby. The house is nice, clean, well-decorated, exactly as pictured. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay here.

  • I had a wonderful stay here! The space was perfect for me, it was clean, spacious, in a quiet area, had what I needed as far as the kitchen, the bed was very comfy with a down comforter and there were plenty of towels. I would absolutely recommend this spot to future guests!

    Andrea2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was truly a magical place to stay... private and perfect for a creative retreat or getaway. I loved the vintage books placed artfully around the house, the antique typewriter and telephone, the lit-up vintage "love" sign in the kitchen, the many plants, and the deluxe scrabble set. There's just a resonance in the house that's conducive to writing, meditation, contemplation, and any kind of creativity. The space only contains natural products and is virtually scent-free (perfect for anyone with chemical sensitivities or allergies. The kind hosts even left me a new bar of unscented soap in the bathroom). I'd recommend this place to anyone~ it's also within easy driving distance of New Paltz, Poughkeepsie, and even Beacon. This may truly be the nicest, most grounding & peaceful place I've stayed on airbnb.

    Alissa2016-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • My friend, her 9 month old son and I spent 3 lovely days at Nna's place. The home is very clean and spacious and just as described. We spent our days wine tasting and exploring nearby hiking trails and parks. There are lots of restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies all within a short drive. Nna was extremely kind and helpful and went above and beyond to help make our stay great! I would highly recommend this adorable little cottage. It's a perfect escape from the city. Thank you so much for the great stay!

  • The place to stay in Poughkeepsie! Neelam’s place was very clean and cozy and felt very homey. Neelam and her husband were very hospitable and friendly and made our stay so nice! They made delicious breakfast in the morning when we woke up and brought us water for the night to our room. I couldn’t ask for anything more from a very nice couple!

    Polina2018-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Although we have used Airbnb in the past, this is the first time we have ever stayed in a guest room in someone’s house. We could not have asked for a better experience. Rocky and Neelam are absolutely lovely people and wonderful hosts. They made us feel so welcome in their beautiful and clean home. Upon arrival we were offered beverages and pastries. Our room was nice and air-conditioned and we were able to use the adjoining bedroom which fit our daughter’s travel crib. In the morning Neelam made us the most incredible Indian breakfast. We enjoyed our time talking with Rocky & Neelam. We became fast friends and we were sad our visit was only for one night. Next time we find ourselves in Poughkeepsie, we absolutely hope to stay here again. Thank you for opening up your home to us and we look forward to seeing you again!

  • I stayed here with my wife and mother in law. Our host Neelam was very nice and hospitable. The bedrooms were private, and the beds were very comfortable. Neelam even offered to make us breakfast in the morning, but since we already had plans, she provided us with smoothies instead. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

  • As our first airbnb, it will be reaaaal tough to find a place to rival this one. Amazing attention to detail and comfort. Excellent hospitality, company and just a all around amazing experience. We left with happy and content hearts, grateful for the time that we spent here.

  • Give yourself time to really enjoy the beautiful quiet setting on Turtle Pond. A beautiful old barn renovated into a wonderful place to stay.

    Wynne2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Where to begin? As someone said in a previous review, Ray and Irene have raised the bar for airbnb experiences. We were up for Vassar graduation as well as moving our youngest out of his college. We had a very busy schedule which meant that the thoughtful and copious food selection, bottle of wine, well-equipped kitchen, stylish immaculate bathroom, lovely soaps and bubble bath, etc were all much appreciated. Everything you need if you are attending functions. BUT then when we had time for fun, we had a lovely lovely view, firepit (Irene delivered fresh smore's ingredients), swimming tub, grill, fishing and canoeing! We just had such a good time hanging out and relaxing between our events. Thank you to Ray and Irene!

    Mary Beth2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • The place is truly one of a kind. If you love old barns with modern conveniences, this place is it. Your hosts are great to deal with and truly have a made the Red Barn a very special place...relaxing and so comfy. It exceed our expectations...they have thought of everything you could need to make a very enjoyable getaway out in the country. Kitchen is well equipped. Beds are so comfortable with lovely linens. Bathroom is big and spacious with toiletries, hairdryer and a great big whirlpool tub. Plenty of space to kick back and relax both inside the barn and out. Lovely patio area with soaking pool and fire pit on beautiful grounds that face the marsh. You truly can't go wrong with this place, exactly as pictured in Airbnb and more.

    Jen2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ray and Irene are awesome hosts! Location is great. Extremely scenic. We brought our 2 small dogs and they ran around the spacious property the whole time. We highly recommend Red Barn to friends and we can't wait to go back there later this year.

  • My family with two young children stayed at Tom and Mo's while briefly visiting the area to walk the Walkway over the Hudson. They have a beautiful property and we're very welcoming. Check in was a breeze, and the afternoon light in the living room and bedroom gave the place a parklike feel...very nice landscaping and rockwalls. Tom gave us a good recommendation for a vegan restaurant in New Paltz... something that's not always easy to find when we are traveling. The bed was very comfortable and the kids loved falling asleep to a movie on the air mattress. We will stay here again the next time we are in the area.

  • Doris was a very sweet host! She provided extra snacks and had lots of good information about local restaurants and historic sites. • Imagine turning into your grandmother’s drive at the end of a long journey. You know you are going to be warmly treated and Gran is going to go the extra mile to make sure you are well taken care of. That’s what it is like to stay at the House by the Pond. Doris is a most gracious host and goes the extra mile to make sure you have plenty of snacks, beverages and toiletries to make your stay as comfy and homey as possible. She has a sparkle in her eye and such conviviality as she greets you. The little apartment is perfect for two and the surroundings are sublime. Can’t recommend highly enough.

  • Doris is super nice and had some muffins and fruit for me in the morning. The house is clean and secluded. Loved it.

  • Our stay at the house on the pond was lovely. The accommodations were perfect for our needs. Doris went out if her way to make sure we had everything we needed including local maps and menus. The weather didn't cooperate so we didn't get to enjoy the deck or outside areas but they looked quite inviting.

    Lori2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Doris went above and beyond to ensure that we had a lovely stay. We were coming to town for a conference, and experienced a host of delays and challenges, but she was prepared for anything and accommodated everything we might have needed. She is a local and has many tips for new visitors, which is great for getting the most out of your Hyde Park experience. Loved staying with her, and I hope many more stay at the House by the Pond- thanks Doris for making our trip a good one!

  • It was a nice stay there!

  • Loved my stay here. Van did a lot of work with the place since my last stay in late October. I am suggesting this place to my friends and family who want to come and visit on a budget. Basic amenities included, but BYOC (Bring your own coffee). Van is an amazing host, easy to work with, and is very flexible with his guest needs and time restraints. I would gladly stay with Van again.

Or just chill at home with a good book and your laptop. The spacious eat-in-kitchen is perfect for whipping up a delicious meal with fresh ingredients purchased at Adams Fair Acre Farms just 5 minutes up the road. The apartment features 1 bedroom with queen-sized bed, and a large living room with 2 twin fold-down beds w/ memory foam mattresses. As well as a 77" standard sofa that can serve as a bed for one.
  • airbnb is awesome because of hosts like Seth! 1) The place was AMAZING! So wonderfully decorated and comfortable. Everything you need is here. What a great spot. 2) Seth is an incredible host! He gave us tons of recommendations for cool stuff to check out in the area. He was also very attentive. I accidentally blew a fuse when blow-drying my hair. Within 3 minutes, Seth was knocking on our door and fixed the problem! Thanks Seth!

  • The Poet Guest House Apartment is a charming and peaceful apartment for two people located within few minutes driving time of Vassar College. Although the house isn't much to look at from the outside, the apartment itself is extremely relaxing to be in. It has great light. And the owner has decorated the apartment tastefully. Seth offered us many fine recommendations for things to do and places to eat while in Poughkeepsie, and was prompt in responding to requests for more information. He was professional and courteous.

  • Seth was an amazing host...very accommodating and quick to respond! His apartment was just as beautiful, clean and perfect as we expected. He made many wonderful recommendations for stops along the way to Poughkeepsie and around the area. My daughter and I visited colleges nearby and the apartment was convenient and centrally located...we would definitely come back and stay with the rest of our family. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend his place to everyone!

  • Seth was a very friendly and helpful host with amazing tips for the area. The place was very clean and had a very comfortable and pleasant design aesthetic. Highly recommended.

  • The Poet guesthouse is a great place to stay as a home base for exploring the Hudson valley. Seth gave great, extensive recommendations for activities and restaurants in area. He has done an excellent job of decorating the guesthouse and has established an ease of use for staying at the guesthouse. The guesthouse was clean and had all the amenities one would need. I highly recommend staying at the Poet guesthouse if staying in or exploring the Hudson valley.

  • The neighborhood was quiet and easy to find. Seth provided us with lots of suggestions for things to do in the area. Although we never met in person, he was the most attentive Airbnb host we've ever had. He answered every communication quickly, and even contacted us about where to find the dish cloths that he'd forgotten to leave out, and offered to bring over anything we we missing in the kitchen!

    Mary Ann2015-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's apartment inside is as it was described and the photos are very accurate, it's well decorated inside and the check-in instructions were great and we checked in and checked out with no problem at all. We booked this accommodation as we were going to a wedding nearby and struggled to find somewhere to stay that was self-catering. Personally, the location was not right for us, it is a neighbourhood which on first impressions wasn't great. We were quite disappointed when we arrived. The neighbourhood was quite lively the first night we arrived and at the other end of the street there were lots of young people hanging around outside, sitting in cars, smoking, listening to music etc. We didn't know the area at all but didn't feel all that comfortable being there with our young son. Perhaps this wouldn't be an issue for other travellers though. We had a car - you would definitely need one as the location is a residential area with no shops.

    Louise2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • In a lovely neighborhood convenient to all parts of Poughkeepsie, this apartment is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The hosts provided excellent info regarding check-in/check-out, but also plenty of tips for places to go in and around Poughkeepsie. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable place to stay in the area.

  • We stayed at Deborah’s on our road trip from New York to Montreal. Deborah was a thoughtful host, communicative and hospitable, and the bedroom was incredibly comfortable, stocked with water and morning coffee. The house is well located, near Wappington Falls services and the NY Thruway. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or return!

  • Debbie was quick to accept our reservation request and her communication was fast and helpful. Check in was so easy and she even offered us cheese and crackers when we arrived! Her place is within driving distance of many restaurants, shops and parks. We felt safe in her home and in her neighborhood. There was a heatwave while we were in town. She has a lovely above ground swimming pool that she said we could use...wish we had brought our swimsuits!!

  • Linda is the sweetest person and the perfect host. Her guest suite was the perfect choice for us as we were going through the trauma of moving out of our home of 30 years. We loved coming home to her cozy and well equipped home and each night had a wonderful sleep. Our morning walks were so nice in her lovely neighborhood with stellar views. And our favorite sushi was only 10 minutes away! We will definitely stay here during our future visits to the Hudson Valley!

  • This was a comfortable place, a little cramped for three adults, but would have been great for two. It was very homey, with lots of personal touches. We enjoyed it and were grateful to find it on short notice for our daughter's graduation weekend.

    Aaron2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was clean and nice. We enjoyed some of the movies as well.

  • I stayed at Linda's place when I traveled from NC to attend some family functions and visit some dear friends I hadn't seen in 23 years since my move from Poughkeepsie. Linda's place was perfect for me. Plenty of space and very centrally located to all of the events I attended. The booking process all the way through text communication during the trip was quick and easy. Linda's house is in a great neighborhood, and you really have complete privacy with a separate entrance to the apartment. I would not hesitate staying with Linda again the next time I plan to visit the area.

    Lynn2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Linda was easily contacted and replied quickly. The addition of the Keurig was much used. Many other options from movies and video games to a fridge and microwave was also available.

JoAnn was a wonderful host. It was great to talk to her about the US election and politics over breakfast - super tasty homemade pancakes with apple sauce and maple syrup. The room was comfortable and as described. A great spot to relax and enjoy the CT surroundings, thanks for everything JoAnn!

Bob was very hospitable and friendly and also accommodated us by making a Vegan breakfast each morning. The cabin is cute and cosy and exactly as pictured. The very comfortable bed and private setting made for a great night's sleep. Showering outside was fun and refreshing. The rail trail is very convenient so we walked to town for lunch. We highly recommend staying here.

A few of us left manhattan for a few days of nature, quiet and a spacious place to BBQ. The location is great and gave us the opportunity to visit neighboring towns in the area. Erin was a great host, she was super attentive and gave us the best food and hiking recommendations. Can't wait to visit again!!
