Just booked in Detroit

Just booked in Detroit
Walk to Belle Isle, 6 min drive to downtown! A spacious 1BR corner loft overlooking the river and two parks. Lots of light and beautiful view. Convenient location off Jefferson Ave and Detroit's Riverwalk. Gated parking for one car. First time visitors to Detroit and city regulars will enjoy using my loft as a base of operations. I've been a contributing author to Wildsam Field Guides, an eclectic guidebook publisher, and have great recommendations for most cravings in this unique city.
I have a few spaces in Detroit. If this loft is unavailable, check one of my other cool spots: https://www.airbnb.com/users/6405993/listings This loft is beautiful, open, and full of light. A perfect retreat in Detroit. I grew up in Montana, lived in India for a few years, and ran a journalism startup in Detroit called Jaunt, so I have decorated my place with remnants of my travels. I also contributed to a Detroit guidebook called WildSam Field Guides, so I can help you put together a good itinerary or fill any holes you might have. I mostly live on my sailboat during the summer and I teach Marine Science on a sailing school vessel. The loft is all open except for the bathroom. The bedroom is separated by a wall without a ceiling. The kitchen has all the basic essentials and utensils plus coffee, tea, cereal, oatmeal, etc. for breakfast. I have an HDTV with Blu-Ray, Roku, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and an HD OTR antennae for NBC, ABC, FOX, etc. Then there's the bed. Queen and super comfortable - I splurged on the bed because good sleep is really important to me. For extra guests, there is a queen pull-out sofa in the common area. The apartment can accommodate up to four (two in each queen bed) but you're starting to get a little cramped. I will decline requests for greater than four people unless you have a special circumstance. There are two A/C units: one window-mounted right next to the bed and the other in the living room space. They do a good job on the loft 90% of the time, but if the sun is glaring and it is scorching hot, they won't be able to create the refrigerated A/C frigidity we are used to with central air. The bedroom unit works perfectly if you shut the door to the common area. In the winter, you can turn the heat up as much as you like and make it toasty warm.
I moved here in October, 2014 from the nearby West Village area where there are a few great new restaurants, like Craft Work, Detroit Vegan Soul, and Red Hook Coffee. The loft is on the Riverwalk, which is a bike/walk trail connecting you to downtown and Eastern Market via the Dequindre Cut, a converted rail line that runs off of the Riverwalk. I am also walking distance to the Belle Isle bridge. The building is kitty corner to a Coast Guard base, a U.S. Federal building, and the offices of a private security firm. The streets are lit and other residents of the building are frequently coming and going. I have always felt that the area around where I live is quite safe.
  • Buyer Beware! Fortunately our stay was brief. We checked in at 230 am and were surprised by the condition of the place in the pictures the home appears to be updated IT IS Not the floors are patch worked wood floors with large gaps and holes, I'd suggest house slippers unless you have tough feet. There are spots on the drywall that have been patched but not painted over and many other cosmetic issues. The bathroom is tiny and has low water pressure and has the same wood floor that is rotting obviously due to water contact. The two biggest issues for us though we're the area (there is a reason they need gated parking) and the paper thin walls. At 230 AM when we checked in we could hear the neighbors TV fortunately it was the neighbor away from the master but in the morning we could hear every movement and conversation of the neighbor above including his TiVo remote. We booked 3 days and only stayed that first night and moved over to a hotel. Unfortunately none of these issues were enough for thane to refund us for the last two nights but customer service isn't everyone's thing. I will say his manager Liz was nice and the security guard John that checked us in was very kind as well. I did look up the apartments online when we got there and found that they go for 500 dollars a month which makes sense. If you aren't fussed about neighborhood, condition or privacy this is your spot but personally you can find a much nicer hotel for less. Good luck and happy travels.

  • A huge thank you to Karen (Thane's Mother) for taking great care with every detail of booking, check-in, follow-up, etc. And then an even bigger thank you to Thane, the loft's owner. His space is well appointed, of course. But beyond that, it is personal, smart, even thought provoking. (After a quick glance at his accumulated books, artwork, collected maps and displayed photos, you realize you are a houseguest of a guy you want to know.) I used uber to get me everywhere. Eater Detroit to point me to the right bites (I am a chef in Charleston.) And Thane's "guide" to get me to some places I wouldn't have found on my own. Please consider this your Detroit base if you value authenticity and character. And of course a good place to rest your head at the end of the long day.

    Wendy2016-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Hip, up-and-coming place. Neighborhood is interesting: lots of new, high-end development one block west, run down section one block east.

    Scott2017-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay.

    Blake2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great space! Karen was very thoughtful and kind. She gave great suggestions for food and fun!

    Bridget2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Karen was really helpful, and quick to respond. The area was a little different than I expected. The location isn't what I expected - no real options for food. The area didn't seem too safe. There was a lot of noise from other units at all hours. Overall it was a decent place to stay.

    Tom2017-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great space to stay! My husband and I were visiting family in town but also took the opportunity to stay near downtown to enjoy some of the restaurants. We loved how laid back but hip the loft was. Karen and Thane left great suggestions and a well stocked kitchen. We would def stay here again.

    Crystal2018-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Communication with Thane was easy and timely. His loft is in a beautiful building in a great location, and we enjoyed exploring Detroit from this comfortable home base.

A beautiful, open, airy loft space housed within a completely renovated 1926 industrial building. Centrally located on Woodward Avenue, steps away from the Amsterdam stop of the newly-installed QLINE in New Center. Hop on, and be anywhere you'd like in New Center, Midtown, or Downtown in minutes. Relax, you're home.
This is a modern loft apartment housed within a completely renovated 1926 building that originally housed graphic artists for General Motors, and other companies. Designed by famed-Detroit architect Albert Kahn, you'll notice the signature art-deco front-facade and incredible lobby of the building. All the character of the loft is still intact, from the concrete floors, brick exterior wall, and the mushroom columns Albert Kahn was known for. Home includes a large kitchen, front load washer and dryer, incredibly fast internet with wifi and one bedroom with a queen-sized bed. This building is incredibly peaceful, quiet, and relaxing; while being just blocks away from anything you'd want to do in the city. Kitchen includes gas stove/oven, stainless steel sink, refrigerator, toaster, pots, pans, coffee maker, and any other utensils you need to call Detroit home for a few days. You'll find a single bedroom (this was originally a studio unit, but has been converted into a completely-walled one bedroom unit). Beautifully comfortable queen bed, small dresser, and chair. The main bathroom includes a subway tile shower/tub, sink, and any towels and amenities you'll need to make your stay perfect. Awesomely comfy white cotton sheets are included in the bedroom. The living room includes a couch (can be used for extra sleeping space, but isn't a pull-out), coffee table, and two chairs. 50" HDTV is hooked up to an Apple TV with Netflix. Outdoor space includes a small patio (which you'll enter from) with two bistro chairs and table. Enjoy the sunny back-alley of the building with a drink of your choice from the fridge. Local spots within walking/biking distance include the incredibly beautiful art-deco Fisher and Albert Kahn buildings; Midtown Shopping (Shinola, Willys, Nora, Hugh, Carhartt, Fellow Barber, City Bird, Nest, and more); the mid-century gardens and campus at Wayne State, and more. Local attractions include the city and public art, Belle Isle with its beaches, waterpark, Albert Kahn designed conservatory and aquarium, and trails. The world is your oyster. Restaurants nearby including fast food, Northern Lights Lounge, Falafill, Dangerously Delicious Pies, City Wings, Motor City Brewing Works, Jolly Pumpkin, and more. The loft is all yours while you're here. Enjoy, relax, and hang out. I prefer text and AirBnB message for communication. Taking photos during your stay? Make sure you #thatdetroitloft.
Awesome location right on Woodward at the Midtown/New Center border. Just a few blocks either way to a ridiculous amount of inspiration, character, activities, and restaurants. Take in the Detroit Institute of Arts, or check out the art-deco skyscrapers of New Center.
  • Thoughtfully and luxuriously equipped place in a safe and well situated neighbourhood. Although we didn't meet, Jesse was really attentive and responsive to all our questions.

    Tilman2015-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • The loft experience was exactly how it was described. The place was clean, comfortable, up-to-date, and the style fit our design aesthetic. We really enjoyed all of the amenities including the private entry courtyard and secure building. Plus all of the vinyl made for an awesome experience! Would highly recommend a stay here.

    Steven2016-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Jesse's loft! He is a super great host, quick to respond to any questions/concerns. We got a list of excellent cafes and restaurants to try out, Bucharest Grill!!! Felt really at home :) The loft was fully equipped with a great kitchen, Netflix to watch our shows, it was super clean/tidy, spacious, very tastefully decorated, comfortable and cozy. We didn't want to leave!

    Jenny2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jesse was a great host. He responded quickly to a few questions we had. His place was very clean, comfortable and stylish. Loved being right next door to the Wayne State University Police Department and in a very convenient location in the city. Highly recommend it.

Welcome to Woodbridge Farm! ...a friendly, spacious & quiet neighborhood, close to all of the happenings in/around Detroit. Enjoy the newly renovated 2nd floor of our 1884 Historic house. The apt is cozy w/ yummy architectural/design details.
WOODBRIDGE FARM: We love it here! ...very special and unique. The street is filled with Urban Pioneers and creative types; artists, musicians, gardeners, and makers. You will find that most homes sit on larger pieces of land, giving Woodbridge Farms a unique feel. Many of the houses in the area have undergone impressive renovations, and for the others the renovation is underway. We have completed the interior renovations of this home, and soon we will start renovation on the house next door, which we also own. From the outside they look a little rough, but keep coming back and you will be able to witness the transformation! US & OUR RENOVATION PROJECTS: We are longtime Detroiter’s. We are committed to the City, and we are so happy to have been a part of the revitalization of Detroit. We love old homes …and we love to renovate them! Zac is a general contractor, and Renee is an Interior Designer. Together, we have been restoring old homes in Woodbridge for the last 15 years. LOCATION: You are a short walk/drive from Detroit’s midtown area, where you will find a variety of restaurants and shopping. Both Corktown and Downtown are within a few miles. It is a very quiet neighborhood, conveniently located to all major freeways. Lots of parking. THE LISTING: Newly renovated, with the best of care. Open plan kitchen, dining, and living. King size bed with fine linens and nice pillows. The bedroom windows are opposite the sun rise. It is a very peaceful space, bright, open and fresh. We are sure you will love the apartment. It is clean and private. We have an office on the first floor that is completely separate from the space. Zac is typically there M-F 9-5 should you need to fax ,copy or have any questions. If you have any special requests we will do our best to accommodate you, if given a bit of notice. We live 2 blocks away from the apartment should anything urgent come up.
  • Wonderful home. Looks exactly like the pics. Tons of space and has the complete Midwest feel. It felt secluded if you're looking for that and though I didn't have time to explore the area, seemed to be driving distance to some local amenities. You can hear people downstairs at times, but if you've lived or stayed in any older building that's to be expected. Fantastic stay !

    Andrew2016-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Zac and Renee's place was great! The space is really big, clean, and well-designed. The location is perfect for getting to good restaurants and bars, but easy to get on the Qline to downtown as well. Their cat Taco is awesome :)

    Claire2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Zac and Renee have an awesome place. It is very stylish with its unique touch. Plenty of street parking in a super quiet neighborhood. Very close to the Detroit downtown area. Almost forgot, they are super hosts that respond quickly and they have a super cool cat named Taco! He welcomed us to their place. We definitely recommend their place, you won’t regret it!

    Marco2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Zac & Renee's place for a few days after Christmas on a short vacation to Detroit. The apartment was immaculate and we didn't find ourselves in want of anything. Amenities we particularly enjoyed included the TV with Netflix hookup, generally-well-prepared kitchen, and the bath tub. Location was also a big plus, getting us close to downtown (we drove our own car around and also took Lyft) but feeling a little more secluded for private relaxation. Check-in was the hardest part of our stay. When we arrived, the lock box wasn't set to the same code listed online. However, when we messaged Zac through the app, he was able to call us and solve the problem very quickly. Not ideal, but it worked out fine in the end. Final thing to note is Taco! Taco cat is precious and a real gem! We are big cat people so it was wonderful to hang out with him in the evenings. Definitely one of the friendliest cats ever and a highlight of our stay.

    Elliott2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Zac and Renee's place was a great find! It was clean, quiet, and functional for business or leisure. It's a very light and airy space with beautiful furniture and a great design aesthetic. Zac was super responsive and helpful in every way. Can't recommend their place highly enough and will definitely try to stay during my subsequent visits to the D!

    James2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Fantastic space. We had an amazing stay and would highly recommend Zac and Renee's place.

    Maggie2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at Zac and Renee's apartment for 3 nights. I've been AirBnBing for a number of years, and this was one of my favourite experiences so far. The apartment is located on a quiet, tree-lined street, full of beautiful old homes (some renovated, some not, some actively being worked on). It is such a peaceful and green location that its hard to believe you are just a couple of miles (an easy car or bike ride) from downtown and midtown. The apartment itself is beautiful. It is *full* of light, clean, spacious, and tastefully, thoughtfully decorated. Some things we loved the most: Taco the cat hanging on the front porch, welcoming us home each day; the view over the wildflowers blooming in the side yard; morning coffee on the sofa, soaking up the light in the living room; restful deep sleeps in a hotel comfy, king-sized bed. Zac and Renee were lovely, responsive hosts. It was a great experience from beginning to end, and we'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Upstairs from Slows BBQ and on the same block as Astro, Sugar House and Gold Cash Gold, this two-bedroom neighborhood inn provides an immersive, welcoming travel experience in the heart Corktown, Detroit's oldest neighborhood.
A small-scale, design-focused Detroit inn, Honor & Folly is reminiscent of the way folks used to travel: a few beds above the village pub or restaurant. You'll be immersed in this historical neighborhood that's also at the forefront of the city's current revitalization. Featured in Martha Stewart Living, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit (made the 40 "Best Food Lovers Hotels in America" Awards), The Globe and Mail, Details Magazine, Conde Nast Traveller UK, and Afar. With a prime Corktown location, you'll be situated smack into the middle of one of the most thriving, charming and walk-able neighborhoods in the city—right across from the city’s most beautiful icon of urban decay: the old train station. Admire it up-close or enjoy the beautiful view through the big living room windows—you can even see the Ambassador Bridge! Sharing a block with Slows, Astro, Gold Cash Gold and Sugar House, Honor & Folly also offers plenty of other nearby bars, shops and restaurants within a quick stroll (I provide guests with a list of my favorite recommendations), as well as easy access to downtown. The well-appointed space is decorated with goods made by Detroit and Midwest-based designers and artisans—much of which is also for sale. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and its own bathroom, for a capacity of four people, with additional possible sleeping arrangements for kids. From time to time, Honor & Folly is used as a community space, hosting workshops or events, but you will have the space entirely to yourself during your stay. OTHER AMENITIES: outdoor balcony | local design | fully stocked cooking kitchen | potential to arrange custom catering, private dinner parties, etc.
  • Such a cozy, comfortable weekend! This apartment is the best AirBNB apartment that I have ever stayed in. The location in Corktown is perfect. It's right above a tasty coffee shop and many trendy restaurants. The two bedrooms and two bathrooms are comfortable, and there are lots of blankets to cuddle up on a cold Detroit weekend. The kitchen and living room are open concept with lots of open space if you want to invite company over for dinner. Highly recommend this place!

    Caroline2015-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • First, I must say the interior decor is on par with anything in Dwell or any other top interior design magazine. The beds were comfortable, showers hot, and all of the other amenities were more than advertised. To top everything off, below the inn is Slows BBQ, one of the best BBQ joints in the nation and next door some of the best coffee I've had in long time. Overall, I have to say one of my best stay's anywhere and I love that there was NO TV which to me made the place & the surroundings more relaxing. Anyone going to Detroit should consider staying here without question.

    Clarence2013-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, easy communication with our host. A lot of space for 4 people.

    Sarah2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • T'was a crazy snowstorm, and the Loft kept us warm. Meghan also brought us a shovel which was sweet.

    Pierre-Alexandre2014-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • The reviews for Meghan's place do not lie! This place is really something else and exceeded our expectations. Our family stayed 2 nights over Christmas and we were so happy with our stay. The place was well-located, spacious, great for cooking and very cozy. Decor was great and the place was fully stocked (not just the kitchen, but she had everything...tape, scissors, maps, etc!) Meghan was a great host (We communicated through air bnb and through text messages). She was very fast to communicate about any questions we had and the fact that the place has a "punch-in" lock system made it easy for us to come and go without having to meet-up to exchange keys. Would definitely stay here again and would be fun to visit during summer months to take advantage of the patio!

    Akua2014-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable with lots of space and great design. Loved the apartment and the neighborhood.

    John2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is definitely one of the best AirBnBs I’ve ever stayed in. The location can’t be beat and the inside is incredibly hip!! If you’re staying in Detroit, stay here! It’s worth every penny!!

    Ruthie2018-02-19T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed with a group of friends for a Hamtramck pub crawl and Detroit FC. The place had everything we needed including a super comfortable sleeping couch. Very hip loft condo. Everything was a described. We really appreciated how quickly our texts/questions were answered. Hope to stay again in the future!

  • Kyle was on point. Place was on point. Accommodating for sure.

    Jerome2016-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle, Let me start off by saying how impressed my group was with the lofts. Both lofts H and J were clean, spacious and well lit. During our stay we entertained a large group of family members for an afternoon brunch, yet we never felt cramped. This place, in my opinion, is ideal for events of ALL SIZES. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I would recommend your place to all of my friends and colleagues. With warm regards, Julian

  • Beautiful loft in a great location with plenty of room for guests to sleep! Would definitely stay here again.

    Eric2017-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • This property is absolutely beautiful. It comfortably sleeps six and can host many more. The rooftop terrace and the open loft design provide excellent spaces to socialize. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. And, it is central enough that we were a quick uber from everywhere we wanted to go. One consideration is that only one room is separated from the rest of the loft by a door. There is still privacy for the other two beds. But, maybe not as much as you'd like for an extended stay.

    Matthew2016-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Spacious and very clean. I would definitely stay here again!

    Sean2018-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle was very helpful, responsive, and accommodating. Would recommend staying at any of his places to someone traveling to Detroit either for business or just to visit.

Fresh Gothic-Victorian nearby the Museum of African American History, Wayne State, Third Man Records, Shinola. Sfumato Fragrances NOW OPEN in the garden level, perfume shop and low-key scented cocktail bar (search for the latest Lonely Planet article). Selden Standard across the street. 9 min walk to QLINE (approx 10 min to Downtown on the streetcar). 10 min walk to U of M Ann Arbor shuttle bus. MoGo bike rental 1 block away. Rocket Fiber gigabit internet speed. Sonos controls in wall speakers.
This 1880s Gothic-Victorian Mansion was renovated in 2015. Everything is new, clean and modern. There is a queen sized bed and an air mattress. The space can definitely accommodate 3-4 people, but it’ll be cozy (i.e., it’s a Studio). There is ample closet space, a full kitchen, washer/dryer and a private bathroom. The space gets great light. In addition to the low-key cocktail bar in the garden level, Detroit Clothing Circle clothing shop downstairs offers curated racks of clothing with styles that won't blend in with the herd.
We have a great location in Midtown Detroit, many great bars, restaurants, and shops are within walking distance. Popular nearby attractions include the DIA, MOCAD, Chartreuse, Jolly Pumpkin, Hop Cat, Motor City Brewing Works, Great Lakes Coffee and Whole Foods.
  • We had a great time at this beautiful studio apartment. Very clean and bright space and Sarah was accommodating to all of the questions we had. I would highly recommend staying here and would definitely stay again on my next visit to Detroit!

    Karah2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • spotless studio apartment in a gentrifying neighborhood. Very close to some great restaurants and museums. Mark's instructions for navigating the small quirks of the apartment were great.

    Wendy2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Sarah's was great! I had a couple questions before we went and when we were leaving...she was quick to answer. Her studio was just like the picture and perfect for our stay. Loved having the washer & dryer! We were able to find a market and good places to eat close by. Would definitely recommend.

    Nancy2015-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was exactly as represented--clean, sunny, and in a great location. Sarah was helpful and responded to a few minor issues quickly. We were very comfortable for an extended stay, and really enjoyed all of the nearby restaurants, coffee shops, and stores.

    Elizabeth2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place right in the center of the action! The place was clean, bright, and convenient. The neighborhood is amazing - lots of cute restaurants and bars. And Sarah is very friendly.

    Peter2015-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a cute studio in a beautiful Victorian home that Detroit is known for. The location is close to restaurants and the Q-Line which I highly recommend using for downtown and midtown transport.

    Tedd2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cons: Air conditioning sounds like a loud train engine that goes off every 5 mins all night long but you don't want to turn it off completely because then it's too hot The neighborhood is hip with cute restaurants and shops but it's still in transition with abandoned houses right next door The one recommended restaurant, Sheldon standard, is horribly overpriced and not particularly good (Chartruese is much better) The key combo isn't very cooperative The apartment door doesn't lock (but the gate and building door do Pros: The apartment has a private entrance and is very clean and stylishly simple tea bedding and towels and shampoo are provided

    Michala2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely studio filled with light in the heart of Detroit. (Seriously: The pictures don't do it justice.) Safe, clean, and close to everything. You can walk to bars, coffee, restaurants, and museums. (I'd recommend getting a bike if the weather is right—Detroit is best explored on two wheels.) And we had no problem getting an Uber when we wanted to go elsewhere in the city. This is the perfect spot for a weekend in Detroit. Sarah was super quick to respond to any questions we had and made our trip smooth and easy. We'll be back again soon!

My husband, Matt, and I have a lovely flat in Hamtramck that has been restored to its original 1920s charm. Our style is intentional and warm, and decorations include things that we have collected through the years that have meaning to us. Equipped with a queen size bed in a spacious bedroom it is perfect for a couple or close friends! There’s plenty of room for an air mattress too. The living room has a couch, eating table, chair, and bar with stools for enjoying food and beverages. We provide a TV with Netflix access, games, and books for when you feel like relaxing after a long day of hanging out in the city. The brightness and vintage style of the kitchen will warm your heart. You will love cooking in this space, not to mention you will be provided with any cooking supplies you need. Lastly, the bathroom is large and clean with a vintage claw foot tub for a tranquil bath or shower. For longer stays, you are welcome to our washer and dryer in the basement.
Hamtramck is touted as ‘The World in 2 Square Miles.’ Located directly in the center of Detroit, it is a diverse city that has its roots in the rise of the auto industry. Anyone who loves history will appreciate the beauty and architecture that still exists in Detroit and Hamtramck. Originally a hub for Polish immigrants Hamtramck has maintained its eastern European flair and guests will find excellent Polish restaurants, markets with delicious pierogi, keilbasa, and stuffed cabbage along with a Polish Art Center equipped with treasured artifacts and souvenirs. Hamtramck also has some excellent Bengali, Indian, Iraqi and Yemeni food! • My boyfriend and I were really impressed with how modern and lovely Matt and Meredith's upstairs apartment was! We were out and about most of our time in Detroit but felt right at home when we were there. I was sad I didn't have a chance to meet either of them, but my boyfriend did and said they were great. I believe it - they were very accommodating when we said we had an early morning arrival...and then again when our flight got canceled and we had a very late arrival instead. They also left us a bottle of wine which was a sweet surprise. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Matt and Meredith's place to anyone visiting Detroit and Hamtramck!

    Jamie2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in the beautiful, clean and fashionable loft in the heart of hamtramck! I would highly recommend staying here, if exceeded our expectations. They even left us a bottle of wine to enjoy. Cheers!

  • Matt and Meredith were super responsive and welcoming hosts. As regular visitors to Detroit we are always looking for something new and different. Prior to our arrival, Matt gave us the super local tips for restaurants and even hooked us up at a festival we didn't know about. And when we arrived, Meredith met us at the front, gave us a quick tour of their beautiful garden, walked us upstairs and had a bottle of wine for us. The apartment is just as pictured (beautiful, clean and roomy), but also with board games, tons of other amenities and a super comfortable bed. They had an air mattress for our daughter and the place *still* felt spacious and comfortable. We felt like we were staying with the most accommodating friends. We will definitely, be back, perhaps in the next month. We just hope it will be available!

    Debra2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Matt greeted us and walked us through the apartment. It's so quaint and cute and perfect for recharging. I was in an exciting new city with lots and lots to do and it was so lovely I felt like I never wanted to leave.

    Katherine2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place was PERFECT for staying close to Detroit. We had such a great time, we almost ended the weekend with a spur-of-the-moment wedding. Matt and Meredith both were gone for the weekend, but Matt's sister was there with us and was very respectful of our privacy. If you stay with them on a weekend, make sure to hit the eastern market and then the bbq place right across the street. It's a dive bar that has some pretty kick ass ribs. The complimentary bottle of wine they provided (that didn't need a cork screw, even though my fiancé tried to use one on it) was delicious, and their house-made lotion was to die for. I don't think I've ever felt so soft in my entire life. We will definitely be going back.

    Chelsea2016-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous apartment, very homely & clean. Lots of beautiful body products to use. Only a short drive from downtown. We will definitely stay again.

    Sara2016-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is really a great place to stay. This apartment is what I wish mine was like. I'd live there all the time if I could. My wife and I were in town for a wedding and Matt and Meredith had excellent suggestions for things we could do in our free time. We had a great breakfast, some good beer, and some sightseeing all within a short drive. I would definitely stay here again!

    Craig2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Matt and Meredith left us a great bottle of wine, we we thoroughly enjoyed :) Thanks for the great stay!

The College of Creative Studies, Wayne State University, and the Medical Campus are within walking distance.
  • Alissa's place is a real nice find. It's a nice studio with lots of personality and full of Detroit love. The cat wasn't there although we would have loved to meet him.The fact that the view out of the apt. is on a garage is actually quite logical in Motor town. It did not bother us at all. For a really nice view of the city you can go to the rooftop deck which is really great. It just opened when we were there in the beginning of April. The location is really convenient: right next to the institute of arts, the historical museum, walking distance to motown museum, a few nice shops and restaurants downstairs... Communication with Alissa was easy and quick. The fact that your staying in this fancy former hotel with a very friendly and interesting doorman and charming elevators certainly makes this a unique experience. Only downside to our stay was that the internet wasn't working. We planned to use it for our travel plans ad communication with friends/family. The problem would be fixed by comcast on our first day but it didn't get fixed during our stay although Alissa offered to come over and help. However we soon got over our frustration and went to a café downstairs with wifi. Overall a great place to stay in Detroit! Hope we will be back one day.

  • Connie's space is comfy, close to everything we wanted to do during our first weekend in Detroit & served as the perfect (and historic) introduction to midtown! We didn't meet, but Connie made sure we got the early check-in we needed and everything went as smooth as could be. Also: great little touches in the apartment and a fabulous color scheme! We'll be back :)

  • An excellent place to stay in the heart of Windsor. Great spot for the price! Pics and descriptions are accurate.

    Erin2017-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Decent for the price. The pictures show it to be a bit nicer than in real life (pics don't show the severely sloped floors, cracked tiles, peeling paint, poorly done repairs etc). There are many things in this rental that could use a proper fixing but it was sufficient for the length of our stay. Beds/Pillows were comfy and TV was nice and big. Fast Wi-Fi. Location/Area is definitely sketchy. Thermostat is for all units and is set to 75 degrees - way too hot for us but might be ok for others. Upstairs renters were loud but didn't stay the whole time. Overall we were satisfied based on the price we paid vs. the cost of a hotel.

  • The accommodation is quite cosy and in a quiet location. Everything you need is in the apartment. By car (you can park for free in front of the door) you can reach Detroit very quickly. One must only consider that one must pay both for the bridge or for the tunnel approx. 5 dollars, per outward and return journey. In addition, you have to undergo passport control and travel questions every time, but this also happens quite quickly. Overall I would definitely recommend the accommodation.

  • When pulling up outside I was a bit skeptic and parking was limited. Once we were through the door we were amazed. It was well decorated and just as pictured. I was happy to see the place was very clean. It was perfect for two and even came with coffee and tea. The kitchen is fully stocked in means of small appliances. Tv had Netfilx and the Wi-Fi worked great. It was a bit chilly but I brought a mini heater just incase so I'd advise those staying during the cold times to bring one too or pack extra blankets. The only down side to this location is the noise. Alot of loud cars stop at the corner and the tenants above are very noisy.

This cottage like home is close to The Detroit River, Canals, Residential Islands, and Grosse Pointe. You’ll love this cozy home, filled with lots of natural light, and right next to a major bus line for easy access to downtown. The space is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
Hello! Welcome to Jefferson Chalmers! I have done much traveling, and I know the importance of having a friendly, clean, and safe refuge when traveling in unknown territory. Jefferson Chalmers is the neighborhood that I grew up in, and I have been working on homes here to preserve the community. This home is one of them. It is a very cozy cottage like space, a perfect place to use as a home base for touring the City. There are three full time residents here, an artist, a clothing designer, and a dancer. The home is always full of interesting and friendly people. There is one full bath and and a full open kitchen which is available for cooking and storing food. This house was built in the 20s but was abandoned for many years and suffered a lot of damage. I just finished its rehab and am happy to see it alive again. Instead of a full tear out I tried to preserve the existing detail that is created when a house is abandoned. Income from the home will go into further renovations over time and will slowly erase the scars of abandonment. Given the increasing interest in Jefferson Chalmers, and given my need to fund my preservation projects in the community, I decided to make this space available to travelers looking for a quality, laid back living space for a reasonable price. This provides a place for you, brings awareness to the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood, and funds improvements on the Marlborough block!
The housing consists of bungalows and Arts and Crafts houses built in the early 20th Century that have maintained their character and beauty. Most blocks have many owner occupied houses and mowed lawns. The neighborhood is on the Detroit River and is bordered by beautiful river side parks, canals, and residential islands accessible by bridge. The Jefferson-Chalmers Business District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 and is one of a few early twentieth-century neighborhood commercial districts that still survive in Detroit. During the 1920s, this district along Jefferson was the center of the east-side neighborhood's commercial, social, and cultural life. The district is unique in that two big-band era ballrooms, the cultural fulcrums of the early 20th century social scene, still exist within the district: the Monticello and the Vanity Ballroom.
  • Great place to stay. Jon is very nice to chat with about Detroit and other things. Cool neighborhood.

  • The house manager, Jon, was super communicative and super accommodating, even when our travel plans changed. He was friendly and gave us great suggestions for things to do in the area.

  • This is a great room in an older house. The room is very well decorated and very worth the price paid. The house is a little run down but has a charm to it. Would recommend it for spending the night in Detroit but maybe not for a long trip.

  • Place was great for the price point. Close to buses, and a quick 25 minute ride to downtown. The host, Jon was very friendly and gave us a good amount of history of Detroit.

    Bianca2017-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our brief stay in the orange room! Jon, the host at the property, was friendly and gracious--great energy! If you enjoy community living, with private (and comfortable) sleeping space--this is a great fit! Also go to eastern market on recommendation list! Thanks for the hospitality.

    Lia2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, it was a good place to stay. I have to be honest.. I was a little creeped out by the outlook of the house. Also, the skeleton sofa was a bit creepy too. Other than that, I thought it was a nice place to stay for a night. The room was great and the host was really nice/communicative.

    Mary2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed here for one night, but it was great for what we needed. The house isn't fancy, but it is kept very clean and has all of the amenities I expect at an Airbnb. The neighborhood was pretty quiet, and there was ample on street parking. We would definitely stay at this place again on future trips to Detroit.

  • Great. No complaints. Logistics were well thought through. The keys were in the mailbox. This was a great short stay. The hosts did well. My stay at this place was easy, painless, hassle-free. Thank you.

  • Much better than we expected! Very beautiful and neat inside, different from the look outside. AC was super strong and shared kitchen, bathroom, and living room was super neat. Has fridge, toaster, microwave, stove, and utensils. Very cheap. Great!

Adventurers welcome! Stay here & help fund our renovation work as we bring this abandoned 20's mansion back to life! House is RUSTIC & a WORK IN PROGRESS. Private room is restored with original features. Lockable Room Door, King bed with Foam Mattress, Air conditioner, Mini Fridge, Microwave, Coffee Maker. Shared bathroom, kitchen & common area. We host other travelers too so expect community vibe! 5-15 mins bike to most top attractions. Perfect for biking explorers.
This spacious private room is restored to its original state and comfortably furnished. It has a nice king memory foam bed (Size: 76 in x 80 in). The room also comes with convenient amenities like coffee maker, microwave and a mini fridge. The room door is lockable. We currently have 3 bathrooms shared in the house. Since other travelers and our international volunteers helping us will be staying under the same roof and sharing the same bathroom / kitchen / lounge, the space will have a strong community vibe. Expect to meet cool people from all around. We’ve made lots of friends while traveling and staying in this type of shared environment and we love it. :) With that being said, if you require more privacy, this is probably not the best place for you but most guests see it as a great way to meet people and embrace the community vibe as part of the adventure.
Our house is just up from Belle Isle on the same street! We're close to Eastern Market to our north west and West Village / Indian Village to our south east. Straight shot over to Downtown / Midtown and most top attractions are within 3 miles. A lot of homes in this area are being revitalized right now but there are still a lot of work to be done and you'll probably see some blighted houses nearby. If you want some more info about neighborhoods or places to check out please let us know! We have an extensive travel guide we put together for our guests.
  • This is unbelievable place, really) First of all, we was impressed of contrast between not renovated part of home and our room. Room was really cozy. Moreover, if compare photos by which we chosen this room and current state - it very different things! Currently room is more comfortable and have good equipment. This is a great progress! We was very impressed! Great job, Detroit Adventure Team! Outside the room is atmosphere is close to usual European hostels. So, nothing extraordinary. You just should be OK with that. Place is really safety, we even dropped car on a street. Police on a duty during whole night just on opposite side of the street. Less one mile to the The Heidelberg Project and not far from to downtown. One more thanks to Detroit Adventure Team! We was very exited by your work! We was very excited by your work! Best wishes to you in your work!

My Studio is a few minute drive/Uber to downtown Royal Oak & Ferndale -Mark Ridley's Comedy Club, Go! Comedy Improv, Magic Bag, Rust Belt Market & 10 minutes to downtown Detroit- Casinos, LCA, Comerica Park...You’ll love my studio because of the coziness, amenities & unique decor -but most of all the proximity to the best eating, shopping, nightlife & entertainment. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, & pets. If unavailable look for Charming Studio #2 on Airbnb.
My place is walking distance to both downtown Royal and Ferndale, also minutes drive to downtown Detroit. You'll love my place because of the coziness, light, comfy bed/amenities but most of all the proximity to the best eating, shopping, nightlife & entertainment. Quaint decor and an overall "homey" feeling, with a touch of artistic flair, in a central location that offers great access to metro Detroit's most active neighborhoods.
I love getting brunch at Toast, then strolling through the Rust Belt Market, and grabbing a cup of coffee afterwards at Atomic in Royal Oak. Most weekends you can find me at one of the local festivals going on in Royal Oak or Ferndale and/or hanging out at either Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle or the Go! Comedy Improv to catch a show and laugh it up. Great proximity to casinos & clubs if partying downtown, a ton of amazing pubs & farm-to-table style restaurants and other such "foodie's" delights, as well as any sports fans attending home games at Comerica Park, Ford Field, & the new Little Caesars Arena!
  • Quiet place very close to the highway, which made it easy to get to Detroit. We loved the proximity to the neighborhood park and things in Ferndale as well. Easy check-in and check-out for us! Very positive first AirBnB experience!

  • Megan was wonderful. Very responsive to messages. Amenities were over-the-top, amazing! She had just about anything you could possibly need in the bathroom. There was food in the fridge up for grabs. She really thought of everything. The place smelled wonderful. The décor was very up-to-date. The only down-side to the place was the noise from the highway. But, I saw that in previous views. So, we were prepared for that. And honestly, it didn't bother me that much. You kind of get used to it. I would absolutely book this place again.

    Rebekah2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were happy to find everything as described. My husband and I were comfortable in the space and found it charming. The house is right off of a major road and, other than being off a one-way lane, made it easy to get to everything we wanted to do. This is a good choice for anyone visiting the downtown area.

    Melody2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is super clean and very accommodating to travelers. Perfect location for us as we were visiting from out of town to go to a funeral and needed our own space. They were clear directions about everything. The bed is super comfy he and he was easy to manage as well as the TV. Major bonus was that I was able to finish laundry before I got home and made it back with all clean clothes. Perfect private spot will definitely look into it again when we are back in town

    Anahata2017-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Place is neat and cozy. Very organized and convenient. Megan was a great host and she responded to messages and inquiries in a timely manner. We already booked the place for our next stay in the area.

The Duck 'N' Roll inn is a three bedroom home situated on a urban duck farm. A combination of contemporary features and old-time cottage charm will keep you comfortable and cozy while you enjoy Detroit's east side. It is close to Grosse Pointe, and most Detroit destinations are quickly reached by freeway.
The Duck 'N' Roll Inn has been a home to journalists, documentary filmmakers, artists, performers, urban planners and explorers, and this year, a temporary home for families reuniting. It's been a joy to teach the kids about the ducks! The "Duck 'N' Roll Inn" is an eclectic farmhouse on an urban duck farm, officially known as Laid In Detroit. The farm provides pasture raised duck eggs to Rock City Eatery, as well as local residents. Located in the easy-going east side, Laid In Detroit was voted "Best Inner City Duck Farm" by the staff of the Metro Times. Though it's not so much an "inner city" vibe as it is a laid back oasis amongst urban sprawl. It encompasses 4 city lots full of trees and garden, The house has 3 bedrooms--a nautical room, and kid friendly room, and a spacious bedroom known as "the disco room," which features a large skylight, a woodburning stove, enormous chalk boards, and a sound system with a disco ball so that it doubles as a dance floor! There is one full bath with an extra wide jacuzzi tub, as well as a half bath on the first floor. The property also features a steel bbq in the form of a dinosaur, an adobe pizza oven on site, as well as panoramic views of the gardens and the ducks frolicking in the pasture. We have a new addition to the farm! Meg, the livestock guardian dog is keeping us safe from predators and prowlers. Great Pyrenees guardian dogs are known for their friendly, gentle demeanor, as well as their superior livestock guarding abilities. When you meet her, give her a biscuit and a pat. She loves guests! (By the way, the dog is off limits to the house unless invited! No worries if you are allergic or not an animal lover.) The house is full of character with a large kitchen and dining area. The property also has many ecological features, such as a green roof over the duck coop. Your stay here will not only be relaxing and fun, but educational as well. Typical guests who have really enjoyed the Duck 'N' Roll Inn are artists, urban gardening fans, photographers, journalists, film makers, animal lovers, students, musicians, world travelers and anyone with an adventurous mindset. You can also rest easy knowing that the money from your reservation is going directly to a small farm business in a developing neighborhood in Detroit. Laid In Detroit has hosts many events, including an annual Easter party for the kids.
Cornerstone Village, once a stable working class neighborhood founded by Belgian immigrants (some refer to it as "the Belgian triangle") has also been affected by the recent mass exodus from Detroit. But a strong coalition of homeowners with deep roots in the community have held things together. You will encounter some blight and vacant homes in the neighborhood. There are characters, and oftentimes people are out and about, playing music and socializing, but it is a friendly neighborhood. All guests have had a safe experience here. There are many great restaurants nearby, as well as bars, pubs, and grocery stores. The Cadieux Cafe and Ye Olde Tap Room have been around for a century. Trader Joe's and Kroger grocery are within walking distance.
  • The place is fantastic! Suzanne is reliable with returning messages and the accommodations are just as they were represented online. Backyard is great, and we really really enjoyed the fireplace in the big bedroom upstairs. Already planning our next visit :)

    Julia2015-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne is definitely the wonderful host as described earlier. She even took us on tour all around Detroit – by bike! An experience we will never forget, also thanks to her friend who accompanied us and knew everything about the city. The house has an excellent comfort and we especially love the master bedroom and the bathroom, both well designed. A bonus are the funny ducks and Meg the Pyrenees dog, who was guarding both the ducks and us visitors. When we return to Detroit we absolutely will stay at the Duck ‘N' Roll Inn again.

    Bram2014-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a great time, only wish we could have stayed longer! The house was amazing, the duck farm was awesome, the woodstove was surprisingly entertaining, and Socks the cat was an excellent cat-away-from-home-cat.

    Nolen2013-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Antonio and I loved Suzanne's duck farm! It was easy to find, included parking, and immersed us in Detroit! Antonio loved all the natural light and I loved the bathroom! We choose the sailor themed room to sleep in and I slept amazingly. Meg the dog was a treat and we felt very safe. We only stayed a night but would recommend the farm to others and would come back!

    Tracy2016-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the Duck'N'Roll. Our one-year old loved looking out the windows at the ducks in the backyard. It's an interesting part of Detroit and a very cozy place to stay.

    Lizzie2014-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at "Duck 'N' Roll Inn" in Detroit over St. Patrick's Day weekend (3/13-3/17/14). The eastside and the Grosse Pointe's have been without accommodations for out-of-town guests for way too long. But no more. The "Duck" is a great place to lay your weary head for either a short or long stay. 3 bedrooms, great bath, living room, dining room and kitchen at a price that can't be beat. Charming and functional. the ideal solution when you want to spend time with other out-of-towners without having to travel downtown or the far eastern suburbs for accommodations.

    Katherine2014-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Duck 'N' Roll is a charming place to stay. We enjoyed feeding the ducks and relaxing in the master bedroom with a roaring fire. The place has a very rustic and quirky feel. Another awesome perk: jacuzzi tub under a skylight. Looking forward to staying there the next time I'm in Detroit. One note of caution: like most of Detroit, it's better if you have a car to get around. Everything is very spaced out.

    Shannon2013-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne was an excellent host - very thorough and straightforward. The listing paints a clear picture of what the home is like. My husband and I had a very comfortable stay at Duck 'N' Roll Inn.

Corktown is amazing! It is home to the city's most eclectic coffee shops, bars, restaurants, breweries, record shops, cutest retail spots, and secondhand shops. Most are a 10-15-min walk or 5-min car ride away. The loft is also super close to downtown, all festivals (e.g., Movement, MoPop) and the Cobo Center (10-15 min walk); The Renaissance Center (RenCen, 6-min drive/27-min walk); and Hart Plaza is a 4-min drive/23-min walk past Rosa Park's old condo and the Detroit Riverwalk (a site of the Underground Railroad).
  • Danielle was an incredible host who really cares about her guests. The loft is awesome and very comfortable.

    Perry2017-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle's place was a styled dream! I booked the place for a 4 day work trip and enjoyed my time there very much. The AC machine inside worked great to offset the summer heat and the kitchen had all the basics. Especially loved the bathroom decor. Her check-in instructions were super clear to follow (the building has many doors and hallways) and the loft itself had a vintage yet modern charm. It was quiet at night which was great, with only a few occasional upstairs neighbor noises. Tons of natural light in the morning so great way to wake up with the sun! Lastly, Danielle sent a ton of handy recommendations for things to do. Within an 10-minute walk, I tried: Mudgie's for killer sandwiches, FOLK for a tasty organic breakfast, and John K. King's for used and rare book shopping (that place is magical). The Westin Book (my conference location) was a 15 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend!

    Andrea2018-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Was a great space for our needs. Loved the location of this loft and all of the amazing natural light. Space was warm and cozy, a great place to escape the hustle of the city while ironically being in the city. Highly recommend.

    Lindsay2018-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say, Danielle's place is the perfect, quiet, artistic, Corktown-centered loft — oh, and it was just so damn easy to get in and park, and it was a great price for the place. Not to mention that every detail in every picture is spot on, right down to the damn book. It's a beautiful, old loft building with chill neighbors and art studio vibes. The beds and couches were comfy and clean. And all the basic amenities were there and ready (Um, good coffee, yas kween). And of course, Danielle, was a great communicator, and leaving was just as easy as getting in. Great trip. Great place. Thanks Danielle!

  • Danielle was very helpful in helping us find great stuff around town, and was very responsive! Great host! The loft was incredible!!

    Brian2018-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Danielle's loft was absolutely stunning. It was clean top to bottom and close to trendy Corktown with endless amounts of hip bars, restaurants, record stores and coffee shops. Danielle gave us amazing recommendations and also great instructions about check-in and check-out. We had no issues at all. Danielle was simply an amazing host I would recommend her space to anyone looking to visit Detroit.

    Nikki2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and spacious. Easy to walk anywhere. Danielle made herself available to us whenever we needed and had great recommendations for food and drinks. She also dropped off bottled water to us after we inquired about the tap water.

This home, located right next door to my residence, is the third Detroit home I've taken on as a renovation. It still has a few more details to hammer out, but due to the huge demand for accommodations, I decided to list it early at a discount rate. It is adjacent and connected to my urban duck farm!
I'm not going to lie, since the housing crash, many people left this neighborhood, so there is blight, empty houses, and empty lots where houses used to be. But the good news is, it is considered one of the more stable neighborhoods in the city. In the entire three years I have been renting on airbnb, over 100 rentals per year, we have not experienced a single crime incident. We are also located blocks from Grosse Pointe, one of the safest suburbs in the area, where there is shopping, groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, and most other amenities.
  • House was just as pictures detail. A great place to stay for a night. I would definitely stay here again.

    Kris2015-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • The place wasn't what we expected from the pictures. We didn't feel safe with the backdoor being easily opened. It looked as the the front door was held up by wooden shims in the door frame. The first night of stay we heard gun shots a couple times through the night. A lot of the houses in the neighborhood were boarded up and vacate. However, Suzanne was super nice and was super helpful. We would probably not stay here again but appreciate the kindness of Suzanne.

    Erin2017-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious home at a great price. Short drive from downtown.

    Jia Lun2017-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne's place worked out perfectly for us. It's a work-in-progress, but still very comfy and has everything we needed. Her instructions were clear and easy to follow. The double bed was super comfy. I slept like a log! Good coffee too and the shampoo and conditioner were a nice perk.

    Jodee2015-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed my stay

    Samuel2017-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place for our kids - clean and tidy. I felt a little nervous driving into the neighborhood (there were some boarded up houses), but reading Suzanne's comments about her neighborhood and her history of many rentals with zero crime made me feel better. After staying two nights I felt better about the neighborhood as well. It was super quiet. It feels like a working class neighborhood (like where I come from, yet quieter). The key code entry made it easy to come and go. Suzanne treats this like a hotel - everything we needed was there and no more (no personal belongings to trip over or worry about the kids getting into). Thank you, Suzanne!

Creator of Scrap Bar NYC and Goodbye Blue Monday in Bk, NY, I moved to Detroit five years ago and live here, on Farnsworth St, Detroit; it's on the city's east side, close to Eastern Market, Hamtramck, Midtown and Downtown Detroit (six minutes in any direction!) and all major highways.
space is a private room with a door that locks from the inside, ensuring privacy, in the middle of the apartment, behind the kitchen and bath, and has one window (see pic), available closet and storage space and a wicker-table for your stuff. it measures approximately 11' x 8 1/2' it also has a new addition - an old "left-handed desk"! i know you can't wait to see that!! yes, i also live here. please bear in mind that this is a hundred-year-old, wood frame house with 60+-year old old, scarred linoleum tile flooring. i ALWAYS keep this place vacuumed and mopped, but old is old, so what you see on these floors are permanent scars, NOT me being lazy!!
the best way to explain Farnsworth street is to look-up a story in the Detroit-Metro Times about Paul Weertz. It's a great story about the block where i live. the first photo of the white house with the white toyota stationwagon in the story is my place (and my car)
  • Stephen was a fantastic host. He is knowledgeable about the area and very accommodating. The area is not close to downtown, but rather in one of the neighborhoods that has struggled from disinvestment and is now making a resurgence. There is a community garden on his block and an orchard around the corner. It is not far from the Packard Factory ruins, which are cool to explore. I was not afraid at all to stay there and explore the area on a bicycle that Stephen so generously prepared and loaned me. In fact, there were so few cars on the road, I felt very safe. He had snacks and coffee on hand to share. The place is clean and the bathroom fantastically arty. I loved his place and would definitely stay there again! Caveats: you must like dogs, because Buddy loves humans and you must be an urban adventurer because there are no amenities (coffee shop, mini mart) in the immediate vicinity. I spent ALOT $$$ on taxis to get around, so a car rental is probably the way to go if you don't like riding bicycle.

    Sarah2016-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay convenient to downtown Detroit by Uber/Lyft in a quiet neighborhood. The room was clean, comfortable, and warm. Stephen was so hospitable and accommodating, even sending me off with a bagel and coffee in the morning! His cat and dog are an added bonus! Would definitely stay again!

    Sarah2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • I ended up leaving after 1 night instead of staying for 2 due to circumstances with the event I was coming to detroit for...I found Stephen to be very charming, his house was lovely, and he was a most gracious host. The primary thing I have to offer for feedback is I don't think it's evident through the photos that this room does not have a door, rather a curtain hanging that doesn't reach the floor. I'm allergic to cats and saw in the listing that he had a cat, but figured I'd be able to have space free of allergens if I kept the door closed...but his pets were in and out of the room all night as they were easily able to pass through. It didn't feel private to me. Also, I agree with other feedback that has been left about the bed. I would recommend this space for others and again, found Stephen to be delightful.

    Kimber2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Stephen is a really nice guy, really enjoyed staying here. The area is a little bit outside downtown, but very interesting if you want to see more of the real Detroit. This was a good place to stay for a couple of nights for me.

Hello! Our home is an 1890 Victorian mansion that we purchased in 2012 and lovingly renovated over three years using a team of local craftspeople and myself. This space is a quirky 1 bedroom, 1 bath garden level loft with much of its original character preserved. Located in the heart of Midtown just one block from 15+ bars and restaurants, DMC, Shinola and way more. The space is designed with leisure stays in mind but also capable of accommodating business travelers comfortably. Parking included
The space features a custom cherry old-growth wood bar along with handbuilt cherry countertops. The bathroom has its own interesting character equipped with the biggest shower I've ever installed as a builder. The apartment is stocked with coffee, has an Apple TV and high-speed WiFi and dart board. The space is equipped with a modern heating system and natural cooling from the original stone walls. It’s very comfortable year round.
Midtown is an exploding, vibrant neighborhood in the center of Detroit. There are so many fantastic bars, shopping opportunities, museums and restaurants within walking distance. The Wayne State Police is highly active and patrols Midtown 24/7 with a fast response rate making Midtown the safest neighborhood in Detroit and one of the safest university campuses in the nation.
  • We loved staying here. The location was so walkable to lots of restaurants and bars and breweries. The pictures really dont do it justice because it is eclectic but so cozy and well designed. Kelsey let us check in a bit early which was so appreciated. The only thing we would add is another floor lamp on the other side of the bed (we both like to read in bed). We plan to come back.

  • Great apartment. Close to a number of restaurants. Fits description perfectly.

  • Excellent space. Rustic and beautiful. Well kept and makes for a wonderful base while exploring Detroit.

    Pial2017-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This renovated, rustic apartment was a really fun experience! My wife and I both love Detroit, so it was fun to stay in this location! The work Kelsey has done is really great! I think my favorite part was the shower; it was enormous and really unique! I don't think I saw this in the pictures, but Kelsey also provides a small TV with an Apple TV (although, we think the battery was dead on the Apple TV remote...). Also, the parking was a little tight and the apartment has (at least when we first walked in) a noticeable "basement" smell; otherwise, this was an excellent experience and would absolutely recommend this as a place to stay! Thanks, Kelsey!

  • Cutest touches in this space! Love the heated floors! It’s a great location and was within walking distance of so many great places!

Sunny, cozy and serene. Right off of Jefferson Ave and Detroit’s Riverwalk. The perfect retreat with a gorgeous view of the Detroit River and only a 5-minute drive to downtown! Just a few blocks from Belle Isle Park with a beautiful view of the river. Ample and safe parking for all guests. The newly renovated Mt. Elliot Park directly across the street provides for a safe and family friendly environment for a stroll.
The building stays true to Detroit's cultural history as it is rustic and once used by manufacturers. Turned into an artist's loft space, the living space features exposed red brick throughout. Interior decor is boho-chic meets Moroccan themes. Souvenirs from my travels to Asia, Africa, and the middle east also fill the space. Coffee and cereal included.
The neighborhood is very safe. The apartment building is directly on the Detroit River Front, which it should be noted that the River Front has completely been renovated and truly family friendly. A Walgreens is directly across the street as well as a gas station on the corner. Getting around is fairly easy. Most restaurants and cafes are within a 5-10 minute driving distance.
  • The apartment was neat, had a great view at sunrise! Would definitely stay here again!

  • Unfortunately, the photos shared in the Airbnb ad do not show everything. This loft/flat is four floors up and has a broken elevator. There was a lot of mold in the bathroom, in the corner of the tub and in between the tiles. There was also a 4" x 4" cut out in the ceiling for some strange reason. The floor behind the toilet was soft and looked as if there was mold there as well. This could be resolved with better ventilation to dry out the moisture. The stairs going up to the loft are very dangerous, a health and safety hazard. There is a large screw sticking out at the bottom; there is no railing to hold onto; and the stairs themselves are very narrow / thin, I almost had my foot slip through. This could be resolved with proper stairs that are not at a steep angle, wider steps (stairs), railings on both sides to assist with going up/down and covering the back of the stairs so your feet do not slide through. The make-shift railing at the top is not supportive, it is broken and definitely not to code for safety. This could be resolved with constructing a proper railing. The height from floor to ceiling in the loft was not properly shown in the pictures and has many different screws or other items hanging down that I almost hit my head with. The stove top cover was greasy and dirty and looked as if it had never been cleaned. This could be resolved with using proper cleaning supplies. The windows have big gaps and do not properly close. The entry door is not sealed properly either as there is a large gap at the bottom. The whole place is extremely dusty and was not cleaned properly. I would not recommend staying here as besides the items listed above, there is no restaurants nearby, no nightlife and no shopping. It is pretty far away from downtown Detroit and Uber/Lyft had a difficult time even finding the place. In reality, this unit is part of a large building that was most likely used for manufacturing something and they turned it into "artists lofts". This really should not be offered up via Airbnb.

  • Communication is the best .... cool trendy safe area.... place is very clean ... looking forward to future stays

    Will2018-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Host very communicative, we had minor issues but it got solved really fast. Unfortunately the first night the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night for nothing. The building is not well maintained and a little scary.

    Laura2018-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 nights in this gorgeous loft in a historical building. We loved its industrial charm and the great view on the river. Points to consider, as already reported in other reviews: - 4th floor, no lift - low ceiling in the upper sleeping area - steep stairs to reach the sleeping area - noise from heating system Nevertheless, we had a very pleasant stay in this unique apartment and we are very happy for this opportunity.

    Eleonora2017-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Semira was easy to reach and her place was very clean upon arrival. The loft is super cute and in a great location, too. However, the ad does not say that there is no AC. There was a small unit, but it wasn't working in the large space. It's unbearably hot in the summer months and this is not listed on the ad. For the weekend price, in addition to the hefty cleaning fee, this place is not worth it. My boyfriend and I actually left and went home because it was so uncomfortably hot for sleeping. Unfortunately, our night away was a disappointment and, for the price ($175 CAD), I wish I would have gotten a hotel.

    Laura2018-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Semira's loft downtown! The location was great, just a quick drive to the few places we went in the city, and the view of the river was awesome! The one and only downside was the location of the bed. My boyfriend is quite tall and nearly hit his head on the ceiling multiple times. BUT despite that fact, we would absolutely stay here for another Detroit staycation. Super cute and clean loft, and a quiet building! I absolutely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay while visiting Detroit.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME: Instant book ensures no discrimination #DisforDiversity. Secure, clean, comfortable private room in a warm home on a tree-lined street in one of Detroit's best neighborhoods for diversity and architecture - Hubbard Farms. Adjacent to Corktown, Mexicantown/Mexican Village and the riverfront; close to downtown and COBO.
This 3 bd/1.5 ba non-smoking home offers 1 private, furnished guest bedroom with private 1/2 bath (full bath is shared). Comfortable living area, full kitchen, dining area and pleasant porch to spend the evenings on. This home has maintained much of its historic aesthetic, with modern appliances and convenience. There is 1 small, high energy boxer/pug mix dog in the home. (PLEASE NOTE: Totem, my beloved family member, was abducted on 5/7/18. It is a sad time. I have not removed her reference, in hopes she will be returned and future guests won't be confused by the disconnect. However, she is not currently a feature in my home.) The location is in a quiet, safe, historic district within walking distance to Corktown, the iconic train station, Mexicantown/Mexican Village, the river front, a community garden, large public park and lots of entertainment. The El Club music venue is within 4 blocks. Downtown and COBO are a short distance away (~2.5 miles) and cheap by Lyft or quick by bike. WSU is ~3.5 miles and Ford Hsp ~4.25 miles from the house. Loaner bike available with *refundable* security deposit. Public transportation is accessible either in front of the house or across the street. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. This is a low-scent house. Products have trained many of us to associate "clean" with aggressive perfumes, which you will not find here. All sheets and towels are washed after each guest use; in fact, if anyone should fault the linens, it's because frequency of washing wears them more quickly than is practical to replace them. If there is any mark or lint or whatever, these are just normal laundry limits and no indication that anything is amiss. If you really feel something is genuinely off, please let me know when I can actually correct it and improve your experience. 2. Totem, my dog, lives here; as a sentient resident, she is not expected to be put away like an object to accommodate guests who are not dog people. She is not allowed in the guest room (although some guests cheat), or on any beds (although sometimes she cheats). Yet, the reality of her existence means that guests are likely to encounter modest amounts of dog hair in passing - this is far less than how much we encounter guest hair, so it seems fair. Totem also takes her watch dog job very seriously, and barks when guests enter and sometimes when they're in the hall. Stepping through the door and greeting her notifies her that you are a guest and not an intruder. We are all thankful for Totem's vigilance, since none of us would want an intruder to get in without enough notice to put our pants on. Totem is a complete lap dog/attention hound, but she cannot be expected to understand complex social relationships and needs clear cues. If you find any bit of dog hair a signal of filth, or you are terrified by 20 lbs of appropriate bark, this may not be a place for you. For a mildly funny commentary on Totem as an Airbnb host, you might want to read "Hostess with the Someness" on my blog, hicdracones dot c-o-m.
The neighborhood is historic and residential, but with immediate access to a vibrant, ethnic commercial corridor, restaurants, bars and other entertainment. Some guests have insisted on calling this area "transitional." I believe that this is because Detroit is unique to most cities and gives many cues that would mean something different in another place. In fact, Hubbard Farms has been remarkably stable even in the worst of the crisis, and Southwest Detroit has had the most contiguous occupancy of any sector, due to the strong Latino base. The entire city of Detroit is "transitional," but this neighborhood is far less so than most. The city requires houses which are vacant for any reason - even if under rehab - to be boarded. Therefore, a boarded house is not necessarily a sign of decay or problems, here. In this neighborhood, there are no vacant houses which are not currently owned and in some stage of renovation. However, in Detroit as a whole, empty houses are normal. It may be considered a form of blight, but it is not *necessarily* the "rough" signal that some assume - it can be, but there are other cues, as well, not just empty houses. Throughout Detroit, property crime is typical of a city, but in this area, more serious crime is very low. On the other hand, it is precisely because Detroit is "transitional" as a whole that so much exciting energy of creation is here: there is literal room and economic feasibility to create new things in a way which is rarely found in highly dense, polished places. Southwest is well-known for its "edge effect," a principle of true diversity which gives it a fairly unique flavor here in Detroit.
  • Everything about this Airbnb experience was wonderful, and I highly recommend booking this room with Marlena to anyone looking for a place to stay in Detroit. The apartment is in a beautiful vintage home, tastefully appointed and totally clean and comfortable. Your room is roomy but cozy, and there is a convenient half-bath for your private use. (The full bath with shower is shared with the host, but there was never any issue using it when I needed to.) You have access to plenty of towels, blankets, etc. and the full use of a big, well-equipped kitchen. The neighborhood felt quiet and safe, with plenty of easy parking. It's in or just on the border of Mexicantown, and very convenient for travel to Midtown, Downtown, and the museum district. It probably never took me longer than 10-15 minutes to drive anywhere, and the Corktown area, with hip restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops, was literally a 5-minute drive. If you don't have a car or don't want to drive, Uber is available and cheap: e.g $7.50 from this Airbnb to Greektown. Marlena was an exceptional host and a great resource: knowledgeable about Detroit, ready with good suggestions when asked, friendly, warm, laid-back, and smart. She was able to direct me to local points of interest/culture/dining/fun as well as discuss politics and history of the area. I always felt welcome and comfortable in her home. And of course I must mention her little dog Totem, who is adorable and charming. I would not hesitate to book again!

  • Marlena was extremely thorough in her expectations and her willingness to communicate. And Colette, her aid during our stay, even took us out for a bit of exploring around down town Detroit. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who wants a calm clean environment for a short stay in Detroit.

  • Marlena is so great and Totem is a sweetheart. Place is exactly as described and neighborhood was really cool.Marlena has everything spelled out on easy-to-follow cards, so you know exactly what's expected and other important info. Easy access to downtown via bus or Lyft and great walkable areas right by house! Had a blast into Mexicantown and Corktown, both of which were really close! Met some really awesome, genuine and cool people all throughout The D. Will definitely be back!

    Amy2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Marlena was great! I was just there for a marathon, and she had plenty of helpful information about the city. She was especially kind to let me come back after the race to take a shower. I was much later than expected, mostly as a result of traffic at the marathon. She still was kind enough to help me out. Although Detroit has had some bad press, I had no worries in Marlena's neighborhood. It is very quiet, and I slept very well. Unlike many cities, there was free parking just as advertised. I got a spot right out front when I arrived during the day and again at night. Her home is very nice, and very clean. I'm not into dogs much, but Marlena's dog is well behaved, and I had no problems. This was a great value.

Large basement apartment with everything you need.
Great location for travelers looking for a comfortable stay! House is located in a safe and relaxed neighborhood. There is a separate entrance to the listing from the rest of the house. There is free guest access to the laundry room. The Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is a quick 15 minute drive away. Less than a mile away is a downtown area with many unique bars and restaurants. There is also Fairlane Mall a little further down the road. An Amtrak train station is nearby, along with the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Detroit city is about 15-20 minutes away. I am always available for my guests and would be happy to provide any information or assistance needed!

  • We stayed two nights with Malcom and had a great time. It‘s a quite and good location, just 10-15 min drive to downtown Detroit.

    Thorsten2018-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. We pretty much just needed somewhere to sleep and shower. So this worked out perfectly. Malcom was always quick to respond to any questions.

    Angie2018-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Well kept and comfortable basement that had all the amenities I needed for a month long stay. Bedroom was very cozy, especially with the heater and the couch/ottoman in the living area was pretty comfortable too. The desk/workspace is large and well-lit. There is some transfer sound from upstairs since it is a basement, so keep that in mind if you'll be needing to get some work done. Overall, I had a really convenient and enjoyable stay. Thanks, Malcolm!

    Zuhair2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Well for starters, this was my first airbnd experience; and let me tell youD Malcolm went above and beyond to accommodate for me as well as my early arrival/ and late depature! Despite being out of town when I came; he was very much involved, and willing to help. Also you get a cool electric fireplace in the bedroom to keep you warm (because it can get a little chilly down there) so theres that!

    Brianna2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Malcolm's basement was a great value for the low nightly price. Although it can get quite cold down there, the bedroom's space heater on its highest setting, especially with the door closed, makes it very toasty and warm. For those that might find the full size bed a bit lumpy, you have the option of sleeping on the couch. There's also another space heater that does a pretty good job of raising the temperature of the rest of the basement. Malcolm has clearly put work into making it a more comfortable stay, and that is appreciated. The place was clean, had some nice touches, and provided us with the essentials.

Enjoy and explore the quaint but up-and-coming neighborhood of West Village Detroit. This cozy apartment is just steps away from new shops and restaurants like Sister Pie, Craft Work and Red Hook Coffee. With it’s historic elements in tact, wood floors, and antique charm the space has a subtle and sophisticated feel and was furnished with this in mind. The original murphy bed folds down in the living room and a custom made kitchen bar top folds up for extra guest accommodations.
The West Village neighborhood is a lovely up and coming area of Detroit. While it's still easiest to get around Detroit by car there are some great restaurants and shops within walking distance. If you'd like any recommendations just send me a message. We are also right next to Indian Village, a neighborhood with beautiful houses built in the early 1900s. Overall, the neighborhood is very walkable and friendly.
  • Lovely airbnb. Perfect location. Morgan was the perfect host, answered all my questions and was available if we needed anything. The apartment was in a great location and has a gorgeous vintage aesthetic. Would definitely rent again:)

  • Very cute, clean. and comfortable apartment! Had a great stay. It took me one night to get used to the noises in the building is an old vintage building, after the first night slept well! Morgan was quick to respond and very helpful with neighborhood suggestions!

  • Nicely decorated apartment. Very cute. A great place to stay the night. I will definitely book with Morgan again.

  • Nice apartment close to good coffee and pie shops (Red Hook Coffee and Sister Pie). The apartment is located on the first floor next to the door and the mailboxes so it can get noisy at times. Since it's a charming older apartment, there are some quirks (e.g., bathroom sink doesn't drain well, limited water pressure in the shower).

    Lisa2018-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was perfect for our one night stay, the only thing to note is that there wasn't a microwave and the second bed doesn't have any privacy, wasn't a problem for us, but could be for others. Very comfortable, clean, and friendly! They've decorated the space really well.

    Grace2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • I loved this place had such a great stay! It was right around the corner from a cute coffee shop with pastries and I loved how convenient the location was. She was also very good at communicating and was able to check in and out with no problem. Definitely will stay here again on my next trip.

Recently renovated mini-suite in the Historic Corktown neighborhood. A short walk from the Michigan Ave strip and Slow's BBQ, The Sugar House, Gold Cash Gold, Brooklyn Street Local, PJ's Lager House, and many more. 5-minute walk from downtown.
This garden-level studio gets plenty of natural light through the west-facing bay windows. Comfortable full-sized bed sleeps two. We also have a portable twin-sized mattress available for a third guest. The space also includes a private full bathroom and a kitchenette.
Corktown is a beautiful architecturally-significant historic neighborhood with lots of great amenities and is one of the safest parts of Detroit. Corktown is home to some of Detroit's best restaurants including Slow's BBQ, Gold Cash Gold, Brooklyn Street Local, Mudgie's, Detroit Institute of Bagels, St. Cece's, Ottava Via. Lady of the House, Takoi, and Ima. Want to wet your whistle? -Two local breweries, Brew Detroit and Batch Brewing, are a short walk from the house. -Detroit's first micro disillery, Two James Spirits, and popular cocktail bar, the Sugar House, are also within walking distance Sports fan? -Comerica Park, the current home of the Tigers (as well as Ford Field, home of the Lions) is nearby, with lots of shuttles to the stadium leaving from Corktown on gameday. -Little Caesers Arena, home of the Red Wings and Pistons, is a 20-minute walk from the house.
  • We had a wonderful stay at this cute and cozy mini - apartment. It was so neat and clean and everything we needed. We appreciated the brochures/maps so we could discover the cool neighborhood of corktown. Since this was a brief busy business/pleasure (mostly business) trip we needed easy coming/going/parking/ and location. Our only regret was the trip was too short and we were so busy and gone so much morning to night we didn't have time to spend with our most gracious hosts Jon and Marissa. They are a wonderful ambassadors for Detroit and a great place to stay. We would love to come back especially when we are not so busy.

    Anne2015-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jon and Marissa are superb hosts, and everything about the mini-suite reflects the care they've taken to anticipate guests' needs and guarantee a relaxing stay. Cozy and quiet (for light sleepers included), the suite places you within walking distance to Michigan Avenue (Corktown's main drag with cafes, shops and restaurants) and all the stunning downtown architecture and sights. We had the pleasure of meeting their spectacular dog Winnie and their cat (who we also wanted to take home!). Great communication throughout our stay, and easy check-in despite our late arrival. Highly recommended! (Also, Bonnie's Bobcats and Brooklyn Street Local right down the street will nourish your soul with good food and great people.)

  • This place was unbelievably comfortable. Jon provided more amenities than we expected which we were grateful for after a long drive. It was close to everything we wanted to see and for a very affordable price. Already trying to see when we can come back!

  • Super easy keypad access, super comfy bed, nice shower, and pop tarts. What more can you ask for? It was great.

  • We had a fantastic time exploring Detroit. Jon and Marissa gave us some great tips for places to go. Highlights included The Detroit Institute of Bagels, Pi-Sci, Third Man Records and The Heidelberg Project. We used the cycle hire scheme which was pleasant (lots of cycle lanes) but had to use the app to hire the bikes as the docking stations dont work for payment.

  • One of the best Airbnb experiences!!! Great location, cozy spot- so many walkable spots to explore! Bed was comfy- shower had awesome pressure (usually this is not the case). We would definitely stay again as we love Detroit!!! We had an amazing brunch at Gold Cash Gold and an even more incredible dinner at Lady of the House!

Spacious First Floor Apartment. Safe, well lit, street parking. Walking distance to local restaurants, bars, markets, gas stations and theatre. Very diverse in population. A City within the City of Detroit.
Guests have their own private apartment with separate entrance. This is on the 1st floor (6 small steps) in a shared unit multi-unit house. 2 Bedrooms. 1 queen size and other has a full size mattress. Very spacious, clean and comfortable. Good water pressure. Parking is on the street, but there is almost always a spot directly in front of the house, and never more than one block away. Private entrance to your apartment. Free and Fast WiFi. BlueRay Player. Smart TV. Back yard with a fire pit. Access to back balcony with porch swing. I love greeting guests when they arrive and making sure they have everything they need. Beyond that, I will give you your space and will not knock on your door unnecessarily. I am always available by phone for urgent matters. Come see what all the talk is about!! A great city with a lot to offer. Hamtramck is the donut hole of Detroit. It's a city within the City of Detroit. 2 mile square radius with around 23 different languages spoken. No matter who you are, you will not stick out here. Everyone is welcome! They call it a piece of Europe in America! People ask me all the time if it's safe here??? My response is: Yes, is as safe, but like any big city, always have an extra eye out. Be mindful of your surroundings and don't leave things like bags, GPS, phones etc visible in your car. Hamtramck has it's own police force & fire department and they are very present. As far as Detroit goes, it gets more of a bad rap then what is actually going on. Our city has cleaned up very much in the last 5 years. I have been living here in and out my whole life and (knock on wood) never have had any issues. Anything goes here. It almost fells like you are (email hidden). Many artist live here and the community is very open. I'm sure you will leave pleased if you decide to give it a try and not be afraid of something a little different. Hamtramck is a walking friendly city. Ubar Car just arrived! Taxicab & Bus stop just 2 blocks away. Please let me know if you need a ride to or from the airport. $30 each way depending on availability.

  • Teena's home was really nice! It was clean and cozy, with all the necessary amenities. Her home was short drive to the highway, making it really easy to get around the city with no traffic problems. We also spent some time in the backyard hanging out at night, and it was pretty lovely. When I go back to Detroit, which I will, I hope to stay there again!

    Vanity2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The listing was exactly as expected and advertised. Very clean, comfortable, spacious and affordable. This was our first Airbnb experience and Teena helped us through the process. By text or email the hosts stayed in touch with us before the weekend and through the weekend to remind us that they were available if we should need them. Visiting our son in Hamtramck we learned it is a great city with lots of diversity. He, as well, was impressed with apartment and will certainly recommended to all his out of town visitors. Hopefully, it will be available next time we visit Hamtramck.

  • What a lovely space! I was so comfortable in this apartment, as everything was so clean and beautifully laid out! The hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly and it was exactly what I had hoped for during my time away from home. I would highly recommend to anyone!

  • The house was wonderful, exactly as pictured and described...actually it was even better in real life! It was very clean and the guys had left some tea, coffee, sugar, cream etc. After a long journey this was much appreciated. The left us excellent recommendations for places in Detroit and kept in touch with us via email throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. It was the best AirBnB place I have stayed in!! We didnt want to leave!

    Soey2015-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Teenas place was exactly what my little group needed for our very last minute stay in Detroit. We were in and out, but the space was very very clean, comfortable, and well located. Teena herself was quick to answer any questions and made sure we knew all checkin/out details well ahead of time. All in all a great stay!

    Max2015-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Teena's apartment in Hamtramck. The apartment is exactly as described in the listing - clean, spacious and comfortable. Nicely equiped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Safe neighborhood. The apartment is on a busy street so there was some street noise, but after midnight everything was quiet. We would definitely stay here again.

    Thomas2015-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place was great! Off the beaten path but not far from downtown. Had everything we needed for 2 people exploring the city. Hamtramck itself doesn't have much to offer in terms of food/nightlife/shopping but that made sleeping a bit easier at night since there wasn't much noise. Great communication and a great stay!

    Todd2018-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Teena's place was clean, spacious and comfortable. They've done well at making the checkin and checkout process as seamless as possible. I always felt like we could call them for anything we needed. The place was also reasonably well suited for our 16month old and we had no child proofing issues. The one issue we had was with the sound. Every footstep in the apt above could be heard loudly. Fortunately, there wasn't much sound after 10 or 11 but it woke up our kid a couple if times. Also, the apartment was next to a firehouse which once or twice during our visit roared in the middle of the night. The neighborhood was a little scary at first (less so for my wife who is a Detroit native) but we had no trouble and found plenty to enjoy nearby like the Polish Village Restaurant. Overall, good place and host.

1 bed 1 bathroom private apartment 3rd floor. Brick 2 family flat built in 1918, fully renovated in 2015. Recently featured in Detroit Metro Times Top 10 Airbnbs to check out. A lot of love goes into the building and work continues to improve the guest experience.
Welcome to the Wheel Maker located in the heart of a thriving SW Mexicantown neighborhood just minutes from Downtown, Corktown and Midtown. The Wheel Makers Escape is located on the 3rd floor and is completely private, featuring a full kitchen with a Refrigerator, Gas Stove/Oven, Dishwasher, Built in Microwave and Garbage Disposal. Granite, Custom Tile and Dove Tailed Cabinets throughout. The space also features a Shower, Toilet, Sink/Vanity, Queen Size Bed, Desk, 50 mbs plug in and wireless internet, Full Size Coffee Maker, Toaster, Blender and all cooking and eating utensils plus cook ware and spices. (Pots, Pans, bowls, cups, etc) Also includes all Linens (towels, sheets, etc) Laundry is on site in the basement. A covered, shared balcony just off the front door which you can see the backyard and multiple other covered areas to enjoy.
The Wheel Maker building is located in one of Detroit's oldest working class neighborhoods. Located less just a mile from the iconic Michigan Central Station, the Ambassador Bridge that serves as the largest international trade route in North America, and my personal favorite skyline view of both Detroit and Windsor, as you head just 10 mins into Downtown, Corktown and Midtown A thriving & diverse Latin American culture fills the shops on Vernor Hwy (The main business district in the neighborhood) located just 6 blocks away. Southwest/Mexicantown Detroit is one of the strongest areas of the city and is one of the very few places in Detroit where you will find fresh produce and locally owned grocery stores. Much of which sell locally and regionally produced goods. Its the closest neighborhood to downtown Detroit that actually feels like a neighborhood. The area is well populated compared to much of Detroit, and a rich culture of family, faith and entrepreneurship has kept the neighborhood strong through Detroit's hard times. The house is well situated near a walkable area and easy access to the highway so you can zip across town quickly. The neighborhoods relative location to Corktown makes it an affordable, yet attractive area to stay in Detroit just 2 miles from downtown.
  • Outside curb appeal nicely done. Construction appeared to be still going on with evidence of hand prints along doors and wall trim. Apartment was great for 2. Clean and updated. We were there for only 1 night but only supplied with a half of a roll of toilet paper and no hand towels. However, this can be an easy fix and wouldn't prevent us from staying here again! We felt safe and enjoyed our stay.

  • Cole was a fantastic host and the space is incredible. Lots of room, very clean, and modern. I would definitely try to stay here again if I go back to Detroit.

  • Clean place, had a nice space/good wifi for boyfriend to get some work done, and downtown was easily accessible via Uber. Cole lives in the property and called to make sure I was able to get in and that everything was all good for our stay, I thought that was very nice for a host to do.

    Shaila2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cool host. Cool unit. Cool block. I would definitely recommend it to a friend. I had a pretty ambitious "to do" list for the weekend. This spot was perfect because its highway access meant I could get anywhere in 10 minutes. #DetroitLuv!!!

Located in the heart of Hamtramck, a melting pot city/neighborhood surrounded by Detroit, this cozy 1 bedroom apartment is seconds away from restaurants, bars and markets and a few minutes drive away from all Detroit has to offer. Whitewashed plywood floors, wood paneling and curated mid century furniture accented with a collection of patterned rugs and art give this place a comfortable, laid back vibe. There's even a secret loft tucked away in the living room!
Enjoy the only Surf Shack in Detroit! While we might not be on or near a body of water, this laid back spot is a great jump-off spot for your next adventure. lt's a wonderful one bedroom one bathroom midcentury apartment in a quiet 4 unit building on Hamtramck's main drag. A quaint Coney Island sits at the base of the entrance, a great diner for coffee and breakfast. Inside, we have furnished the surf shack with unique vintage furniture and art. It's a quiet oasis surrounded by city excitement.
Hamtramck is a city/neighborhood located inside of the city of Detroit. It is a cultural melting pot stocked with a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, bars and boutiques just footsteps from the Shack. Just 1 mile off the main highway, it is easily accessible to the airport, Detroit, and the surrounding burbs. The neighborhood is richly diverse and celebrated. Food: Hamtramck Coney Island, Polish Village, Revolver, Fat Salmon Sushi, Buddy’s Pizza, Polonia Restaurant, Aladdin's Sweets and Café Fun: Fowling Warehouse, DCFC Soccer Field Coffee: Oloman Café, Café 1923 Night Life: Bumbos Bar, Kelly’s, Whisky In The Jar, Smalls, Suzy’s Bar, Painted Lady, Paychecks, the Polka Dot, and more!
  • Morgan's surf shack is a fine place to stay and I would highly recommend it. Clean, quiet and safe plus right above ( though you would not know it ) a dynamite breakfast place.

  • Lovely space! I will totally be visiting again soon!

    Merissa2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place that I'd consider staying at again. Only notable downside was the strong cigarette smoke odor from somewhere else in the building. It was not a one-time thing, it occurred several times during the evening and morning. If my wife had been with me we would have needed to find another place to stay since she has an even stronger reaction to that than I do. The place was clean, entry was easy with clear instructions, the decor is unique and fun. Hamtramck is a great area.

    Scott2018-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Morgan's place is exactly what we needed- a quiet area to sleep with restaurants nearby and a comfortable bed. We were in town for an event and didn't spend much time at this Airbnb, but we appreciated the close location to downtown Detroit and the easy check-in.

    Kara2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Morgan was fantastic from start to finish. Very communicative and responsive to any needs. The location is very clean and surprisingly spacious and comfortable.

    Adam2017-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Surf Shack! We were in town visiting family a few towns over and were so happy with our choice. The apartment is close to downtown, but also separate enough to give you a taste of the rest of Michigan and the Detroit metro area. We'd compare the town to some of our favorite parts of Brooklyn - changing quickly, artist/hipster friendly, while still retaining its charm. We particularly liked Mocha Cafe (great middle eastern food) and Olomon Cafe (coffee break!). The apartment is spacious and comfortable and located in the heart of the town (walking distance of great restaurants and cafes). We loved the decor too. It was eclectic and fun and very cozy. The neighbors are also friendly ... we learned this when we forgot our keys to the main building entrance :) We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning on our next trip to Michigan!

    Brett2017-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Morgan's surf shack lives up to it's name. Be sure to stop by a record store to use her record player! The bed in the storage spot is also key. You can have two guests or more sleep comfortably. Parking is very easy, Morgan is super responsive, and the neighborhood is safe to walk around during the wee hours. Hamtramck is absolutely a must if you love local dives or want to be out of the hipster business, see the real city, etc. You're ~10 minutes outside downtown and traffic is not an issue. Expect a wealth of Polish and Arabic food, walkability, and a small town feel. Be sure to grab yourself some foul (mashed fava beans with naan-style bread) for breakfast from Yemen Cafe. As someone who's spent time in the Middle East, that dish is nearly impossible to find stateside and they make it to perfection. There isn't a negative thing I could say about the area, Morgan, or her tidy cute place. Stay in Hamtramck and enjoy!

Tony and his parents were EXTREMELY hospitable! From the moment I arrived in Detroit, Tony texted me to see how my flight was. When I arrived at the house, it was even better in person than the photos. I felt safe and as if it were my own home! Tony and his parents went above and beyond to warmly greet us and to make sure we were accommodated. I HIGHLY recommend anyone and everyone to stay at Tony's house!
