  • We had a lovely stay at The Coach House, it was very cosy and had everything we needed for a short break away. We felt at home during the stay as the furniture and decoration made for a comfortable welcoming stay. It was good to have a DAB Radio to listen to. Sylvia was very helpful with her instructions and even though we didn't get to meet her we had enough information to enjoy our stay. The Mistral restaurant was well worth a visit, we didn't get to see much else as we had family commitments.

  • Characterful, lovely flat / apartment, was perfect for our stay. Big comfortable bed and so so quiet at night. Fully kitted out with everything we needed. It was easy to find and Sylvia was proactive in communicating before our stay. Would recommend!

  • A beautiful place to stay for a relaxing trip away

    Georgia2017-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach House is a lovely little quirky place to stay within close proximity to Matlock, Dovedale, Alton Towers and the rest of the Peak District. Pros: Good location, plenty of space for 2 people, free parking Cons: Could do with a clean - lots of cobwebs and mould round the bath. Needs a 'property manual' - turning on the oven took a bit of working out and there's no toaster. Also worth noting that the property does not have wifi.

  • My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Coach House in Wirksworth. The accommodation itself is beautiful - it's as nice as it looks in the pictures, if not better! The property is conveniently located within walking distance from lovely bakeries, delicatessens and other local shops. We had a very relaxing stay and particularly enjoyed our walk along the High Peak Trail. Sylvia is a great host. She meet up promptly to give us the keys, showed us around the flat and gave us some information about the local area. Thanks for your hospitality!

    Nicola2014-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute, cosy place, as described. Nice quiet spot, with easy parking.

    Nick2014-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay, and the coachhouse was a great base to explore the south peaks. The flat was warm, clean and homely.

    Nancy2014-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • A cute, quirky coach house in the middle of an old community village. We stayed here for a trip away to Alton Towers which was around a 40 minute drive away. Would definitely stay here again!

  • My boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay in the Brew House- we only wish it could have been longer! Steve was friendly and accommodating in his welcome and manner. He seemed to be genuinely concerned that our stay be as comfortable as possible, and he achieved this with a mixture of warmth, friendliness and an appreciation for our privacy. The accommodation was precisely as advertised: comfortable, compact and very stylish. We greatly enjoyed our trip, and can't wait to visit again in the summer to enjoy the garden to its fullest!

    Jennifer2016-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Brewhouse is tiny but perfectly formed with lovely touches such as handmade soap and fresh flowers. The garden is completely relaxing with plenty of shady seating and rambling plants.

    Paul2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place. Very compact, but well thought out with everything we needed and very tastefully done. Lovely welcome from Steve's daughter in law. Would definitely stay again, and would recommend to anyone with good mobility - the steps up to the mezzanine would be tricky to negotiate if any mobility issues.

    Kathryn2015-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay here and we'd definitely return in the future! Steve was great when we arrived, really helpful and made us feel very welcome. Wirksworth itself is lovely too. It was perfect for a relaxing night away.

    Abbey2015-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Brew House is a perfect place to stay for a short break. It is an amazing use of a small space. Everything you need is here for a few nights to step off the tread mill of life. Steve is a fantastic host, his welcome is spot on- places to visit, eat and drink. He knows his town! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone who can manage a narrow staircase! A real gem. We loved the record player and the vinyls. It has inspired us to get our own.

    Clare2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • It's a great little place for short break. This is a great central location to explore the peaks and Wirksworth itself is a very cool town with a wealth of history and culture. Our host were there to greet us and I loved their little touches in the brew house. We really enjoyed lunch at Mercia and loved the antiques fair that was on. We visited Dovedale and walked to the top of the hills for views of amazing landscape, we chilled by the river and crossed the stepping stones and played pooh sticks on the bridge. We went to Bakewell for a traditional Bakewell pudding. We walked the reservoir and stopped at the cafe. There's so much to see anverybauirt distance away. If I was to go again I would probably go for their larger accommodation. My hubby loved the Brew House and I thought it was gorgeous too but it is small but what they've done with the space is amazing.

  • Steve's place is in the most perfect location with nearby parking. Warm welcome was received and ideal of a wedding we were attending nearby. Would love to come back.

Quirky, beautiful & self contained holiday let. Cosy converted wash-house, set within grounds of stunning Georgian townhouse in arty, small market town. Gateway to the Peak District National Park. Double bed on sleeping platform. Fully equippedwetroom. Microwave ,kettle & toaster with access to fridge and freezer. Use of garden, courtyard and new for this year our very special Garden room with record player , books and seats with sheepskin throws, to chill out in .
  • My girlfriend and I had an amazing time while staying at the Wash House. Steve welcomed us with a great tour of the house itself and the surrounding garden (which is beautiful and worth having a glass of wine while admiring all the greenery!) Steve also gave recommendations on what pubs to check out and where to eat, as well as some history on the area. It all helped to make deciding what to visit so much easier. Steve and his partner Sue are honestly so nice and welcoming, it's worth booking the Wash House just to meet them. As for the Wash House itself, it's great - just what you need as a little homebase for exploring the Peak district. There is private access, so you don't have to worry about disturbing anyone when you come and go, and it's warm at night and cool during the day. The shower was great (I like a good shower,) and the bed on the platform is really comfortable. Little amenities like a hair dryer, towels, soap and shampoo, coffee, tea, milk, and biscuits are all included - really helpful stuff! One thing the listing omits is that there is an icebox for keeping some basics like milk, juice, and a few other things cold during your stay. It was perfect for what we needed since we planned on dining out most of the time. The location is also great. A bakery, general shop, multiple pubs, cafes, antique shops, and restaurants are all within sight the moment you step outside, and the Peak district itself is only 10 minutes away by car. We also explored other nearby towns, but Wirksworth was our favourite and worth staying at, in my opinion.

    Ken2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We received a warm welcome from Steve. The Wash House was a real hideaway in the centre of Wirksworth. It was warm, cosy and very comfortable. We would recommend the experience to others. Tim and Jane

  • Another amazing stay in the Wash House! A beautiful few days spent up in Wirksworth enjoying the sights. If you’re looking for the perfect location and host for a stay near the Peak District.. Book now!

  • The Wash House is a perfect little escape. The quirky property and stunning private gardens are such a unique little secret spot in the middle of an interesting little Village.

    Holly2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most cosy and happy stay at The Wash House. Sue and Steve were so lovely and welcoming, giving us brilliant tips for a wonderful stay and making us feel completely at home. We can't recommend this cosy hideaway enough. The space is perfectly put together with everything you need to unwind for a few days. With such a beautiful setting (and a hidden record collection!) we were so happy spending mornings and evenings in this enchanting place. Thank you so much for having us!

    Maisie2017-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantatsic two night stay in Wirksworth, such a great small town with plenty of good local eateries and a great location to set base to explore the surrounding area. The room was full of great touches and decorated just right, the gradens were delight to walk around. One slight note of caution that a couple of other reviewers have noted getting up and down the staircase to the mazzannine bed is quite steep and i wouldnt suggest tackling it without the upmost care.

    Andy2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Wash House is a beautiful weekend bolt-hole, your very own little escape from the real world... Steve's welcome is exceptionally warm and welcoming and the Wash House itself is located in a beautifully quirky garden. There is a lovely short walk (instructions form Steve) right on the doorstep and Wirksworth is a small but beautifully formed little town with two or three lovely pubs and restaurants. The House itself sits immediately beside Steve and Sue's back door, but there is never a sense of your space being invaded. The Wash House is lovely and brings a smile to your face... The only concern would be the fact that the bedroom is hard to access and may mean a touch of agility on the part of its residents! That said, the Wash House is great - a relaxing and beautifully designed escape right in the middle of a great little town. Highly recommended!

  • We so enjoyed our time in Cromford, in Linda's cozy cottage. Thanks so much!

    Lili2014-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage, well located in this lovely area .. but I was happy to have someone to carry my suitcase up the stairs!! (Admittedly, we were on a 3 week European holiday, so we're possibly carrying more luggage than most!!)

    Tina2016-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had no trouble finding what turned out to be a lovely and well-appointed cottage very close to everything that we needed in Cromford, and not far by car to all the main places to visit in the Peak District. An excellent base for exploring the area, but quiet enough to be extremely relaxing. We'd have no trouble recommending the cottage to friends or family. Thanks very much Linda!

    Sam2016-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, 17 month old daughter and I stayed had a great three night stay at the Cottage in Cromford. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. Set in the middle of the lovely village of Cromford it was a great base for exploring the Peak District with a really nice local pub, an intriguing second hand book shop that has a great vegetarian cafe upstairs and a deli all within 150m of the cottage. Our daughter was especially fascinated with the swans and signets on the beautiful mill pond just down the road. We hope to be back before too long!

    John2016-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week at Linda's cosy cottage in Cromford. Everything went easy with the reservation and the cottage met our expectations. We would be pleased to stay there again. Highly recommended.

    Christian2014-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was a very accommodating host, allowing my friends and I to both check in early and check out late. She was also very attentive, contacting me before arrival and on the day off to make sure everything was fine. The cottage was absolutely adorable, ideally located for anyone who wants a bit of the village life with easy access to walking trails. I'd like to go back to Cromford and do a bit more hiking and would definitely stay at Linda's place again.

    Nydia2016-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and cosy, and clean cottage in a great location for exploring the Peak District. Very helpful hosts, would definitely stay again. Only negative would be the kitchen is very small. Otherwise a perfect stay...

  • Great accommodation and great location. Perfect weekend.

    Matthew2016-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Charming and cosy is a lovely description for this cottage in the equally charming historic village of Winster. The cottage is very nicely decorated and surprisingly spacious with a well equipped kitchen and large upstairs bedroom. Our hosts were very welcoming; They gave good information about the village and its attributes as well as practical parking advice which was helpful and necessary as the streets are predictably difficult to negotiate.. Winster is an old mining town with many buildings dating back to the 17 th century. The delightful Bowling Green pub originated in the 1300's and is worth a visit. There are some lovely walks nearby including ancient stone circles and wonderful views. The visitors book is full of well deserved compliments for Honeyspot Cottage. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet country break or any overseas visitor (as we were) wanting an English village experience.

    Karen2013-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Alistair and Christine were the perfect hosts. They made us feel extremely welcome and made us aware they were always on hand if we needed anything. The location was perfect for a getaway from our busy working lives and the cottage itself was exactly the kind of thing we were after.

    Pete2015-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • We would recommend 100% this cottage. Details, description & communication with Alistair & Christine has been spot on.

  • We, the parents of Floor, had a nice stay in in the Honneyspot cottage. Walked a few days around the village and enjoyed the nature and historical mining sites. Lost of room for luggage and information in the cabinets. Perfect heating and a very cozy fireplace. The cottage is the perfect picture of comfortable and cosyness. Very friendly hosted.

Jane was been a wonderful host and kept in contact as much as we needed! The cottage also had some festive decorations and a Christmas tree which was lovely surprise. Thank you Jane 10/10 - I'm sure we will be back to your cottage.

  • This place has been furnished to a high standard, it’s in a very convenient location for the town . Although parking could be a problem we didn’t find it so , great location, great stay

    Ian2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely little house, in a good location and maintained by a great host. The house had everything we needed for a short stay, including a hairdryer, DVDs and decent WiFi. The house is even better in person than the images make out. Wirksworth had quite a few decent places for such a small town. The Blackshead is a great little pub to go for a quite drink. The Featherstar is also a great place for a drink, it's a bit more lively but they have a wider selection of beers Mercia was a great place to go for lunch - I'd highly recommend it. Ginos, which is just at the end of the street to the house, is brilliant. The shop looks a little tired and it does have a slight air of madness, but the pizza that we had from there was incredible - don't judge a book by its cover. Jane was a great host with clear and friendly communication.

    Luke2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely quirky cottage , beautifully renovated and presented very well. It's centrally located in the town and handy for shops and restaurants. Ideally suited to a couple or maybe two couples. Slight parking issue but there is a car park within walking distance. Would highly recommend.

  • Absolutely loved this accommodation. Everything was exactly as it was advertised and the hosts were very helpful. We would definitely come back if we are down this neck of the woods again!

  • Very cute tidy place to stay for a night. ps no oven

    Katherine2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little place with great views. It was slightly difficult to find at night (due to lack of lighting) we followed the pin on the map provided but it wasn’t quite accurate. Contacted Penny and she was great at directing us and guiding us to the gate at the speed sign after the fuel cafe (a nice little place minutes away) the place itself was very well kept and cosy. There are cooking facilities which are handy and would love to visit again. Thanks!

  • Quiet, secluded, well presnted. Perfect little romantic hideawag.

    Alex2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place, with a beautiful view! The room itself was well maintained and cosy. Be prepared if you're visiting in the winter, while the bedroom has warm wooden floors but the entrance is stone-tiled. Also, the washroom is semi-detached from the property. Otherwise it's a lovely place to stay. Would definitely go back.

    Abhi2018-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely! Perfect!

    Jess2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay with very scenic views. The place was very quirky and we will definitely be looking at staying in the future.

  • We had a beautiful stay at Toodles Cottage. Anya was fantastic with her communications, and we were not disappointed at all. The cottage was exactly as presented online, and the personal touches exceeded our expectations.

    Jen2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • A really beautifully decorated and furnished cottage which was really comfortable, and had everything we could possibly need for our stay. Even some treats for our Christmas arrival. Even though this was a really last minute booking Anya was brilliant at responding quickly and meeting our needs. So clean, fresh and welcoming. Loved it. There were even loads of little boxes with local information, games, etc. It was a positive brilliant luxurious experience for three of us

    Margaret2014-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great break at Toodles Cottage over the October half term— it was a lovely home from home. It's a charming, well maintained cottage and is also well located to get to all the good sights the Peak District has to offer. A recommended stay!

    Guy2015-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a fab stay at Toodles Cottage. The location of the property is great for exploring the peaks and we would also recommend Cromford as a good place to say, the boat inn is well worth a visit for a meal and the quiz night on a Thursday. The cottage was well equipt in essential items for the kitchen and bathroom. There was also a superb amounts of games and things to do in the evening or on rainy days. The garden was beautiful especially from the top level where the views over the hills were fantastic. Overall a great break at Toodles cottage and we would definitely return again. Thanks Anya for your excellent service and your lovely cottage.

    Phil2016-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Toodles Cottage was lovely we really enjoyed our stay there. Spotless and really well presented. Lovely little touches like the chocolates and toiletries sin the bathroom. We were made to feel very welcome and we had a very relaxing stay. Lots to do locally.

    Hazel2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy and charming cottage. Anya was a great host - providing lots of helpful information ahead of our arrival. We really enjoyed the fire, and the garden area is very pleasant in the morning sun with lovely views of the surrounding area. Only downside was the very steep stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom, and a difficult parking spot out the front.

    Sophie2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Toodles Cottage is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect setting for our few days away from work and the city. It is perfectly positioned amongst stunning countryside with a host of activities (walks, Chatsworth, Matlock town etc) on the doorstep and all the local amenities you might need. We did not get to meet Anya, however that's only because everything is so well explained and we were so well equipped with what we needed to know! The garden was an added bonus and the cottage is well stocked with the basics, and then some. I would absolutely recommend staying here and we had a lovely time.

  • The Angel Forge was a charming, spacious and well-appointed cottage in the heart of Wirksworth! We were in town for a wedding at nearby St. Mary's Church, and could not have asked for a more ideal accommodation. Paul is a very thoughtful host, and greeted us upon our arrival to answer any questions. The cottage itself is sparkling and a lovely place to relax. We hope to return someday!

    Colleen2018-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stone floors, old windows and doors that show you their past. This place is steeped in history and yet furnished with all you need in this century. A great find, so I’m not going to shout too loudly!

    Katie2018-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • As you can see in the AirBNB pics, Angel Forge is a lovely spot and bigger than we had expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Paul was there to greet us and show us around, which we really appreciated, especially as it it a bit of a secret garden tucked away behind its own wall. We stayed there as a base to visit Chatsworth House, which is only a half-hour drive away, but the village of Winksworth is charming in its own right, full of tiny lanes and alleyways and historic houses. The Airbnb description says it is behind a pub, and we thought that meant attached to the pub, but not at all - It is down a laneway and in its own private garden spot. Very quiet and scenic with the churchyard behind it. Paul has practically rebuilt the old Forge, using quality materials and authentic hardware. It was pretty chilly outside while we were there but the house was quite comfortable. In the evenings, we briefly put up the central heating a couple of degrees and were cosy in no time. We were charmed and think you will love it as well.

    Kerry2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Paul was very helpful, giving advice of events happening in Wirksworth and where to eat. We each received a voucher for the micro brewery, which is located at the front of the cottage. The people there were friendly and welcoming, and we spent an enjoyable few hours looking through the records for sale upstairs and making a few purchases. Location great for walking, there was a small market on the Saturday with a great food choice and local produce. The cottage was just what we were looking for, quirky and cosy. Lovely bedrooms and bathroom. Good laundry and kitchen facilities. We stayed just for the two nights, would have been great to stay longer. Would definitely stay again.

    Carol2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! This place was perfect for exploring the Peak District. Cosy and comfortable and in the middle of a beautiful town with all the amenities you could possibly need within walking distance. Would certainly recommend to friends and family.

    Jenny2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cottage, with great facilities. The feather star pub was quirky and friendly. Nearby walks from the doorstep. Will definitely return. Thank you!!

    Victoria2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • The property was as gorgeous as the photos. Very comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and a useful manual that covered everything you needed to know about the house. Paul kept in touch and provided useful information prior to arrival, and welcomed us in person shortly after we arrived.

Cliff Cottage is a cosy piece of history in the heart of the Derwent valley world heritage village of Cromford. Set right in the heart of the Derbyshire dales and on the edge of the Peak District this is the ideal base for exploring both areas. The cottage is great for couples or small groups of friends looking to walk, explore or just relax in this beautiful part of England. This charming cottage has 2 bedrooms, shower room, lounge diner, Kitchen and terrace garden.
Built in the late 18th Century to house workers of the worlds very first factory you can expect to find a unique mix of original features and modern amenities in Cliff Cottage. From the cobbled pavement the property is entered into the cosy beamed living space which now has the modern amenities of comfortable furniture and dining furniture for four. Fireplace with electric wood burner, Flat screen television with chrome cast to access Netflix, iplayer and youtube and of course a selection of games and playing cards. The compact kitchen is modern and well equipped with fridge freezer, hob, oven, integrated washing machine/tumble dryer and dishwasher along with kettle, toaster and coffee machine. From the back door there is access to a steep terrace garden that offers views across Cromford Moors from several levels. There is seating for four people. Cromford is a unique and quirky village on the edge of Matlock Bath that is of international importance due to the part it played in the industrial revolution. Along with amazing countryside and a Victorian Spa town on it's door step, not to mention it's proximity to the Peak district it is a truly special area of Derbyshire. Whether you want to immerse yourself in history, cycle for miles, walk for days, sample the local beers or just hide away for a weekend you can do as much or as little as you like. It's all on the doorstep. Should you wish to abandon the car the village has a local shop that has convenience items and an off license. This is the only source of cash in the village in the form of cash back. A butchers, deli and cafe, chocolate shop, several pubs, cafe, post office, cheese shop and book shop. not to mention an art gallery and antique centre at the mill.
  • Faultless. Everything from communication with Lucy to the comfort and cleanliness of the home was just perfect. Beautiful house in a beautiful village. If you stay here make sure you go to Arkwright’s stores for Derbyshire oatcakes but they do sell out quick. Also there are 4 drinking establishments in the village. The Boat - great food at reasonable prices. The Greyhound - posh but nice. The Bell Inn - real ales, single malts and gins. The Community Centre - pool and a good all round venue. Also definitely worth visiting Scarthin books, Masson Mill, Cromford Mill and Parky’s eatery does a fantastic breakfast worth every penny. Try the black pudding it’s like butter! Lucy’s place is the perfect base to explore Cromford and you will love it. All the best. Paul and Kim

    Paul2018-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really comfortable, cosy and very clean. The kitchen is well equipped but you must bring all your condiments because none is provided. Beds are really good and the bathroom nice. The location is good to explore the Peak District : we have walked in really nice footpaths (I would recommend the 3 Edges with tremendous landscapes) The cottage is also near the local pubs and shops. Maybe the weak spot would be the road just at the door of the cottage with a lot of traffic with trucks.

    Franca2017-08-18T00:00:00Z

  • Lovely little space. Bring slippers.

    Anne2018-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage, well presented and beautifully decorated and furnished by Lucy, who has excellent taste! It's in a good position for visiting many lovely places, and locally lots of interest and canal walks. Don't forget to visit the famous book shop in Cromford! Noisy traffic is the only downside, but overall, extremely good value and in a beautiful part of Derbyshire. Thanks again.

    Sarah2018-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lucys place is lovely! The cottage is beautifully decorated and a great place to stay. Lucy is a great host, very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend!

  • Fantastic host and a wonderful, cosy house in a brilliant location. First choice for a trip to Derbyshire!

    Tanya2018-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really nice, cute, tastefully decorated and well equipped cosy cottage. You’ll find everything you need. Also very clean, as we have experienced different in other airbnb houses. The only disadvantage is the busy road, with heavy freight traffic, but not in the weekends. Lucy is also a very friendly and quick responding host. We highly recommend this cottage. We will surely book this again, if we want to visit the area for a next time!

  • Must have been the best airbnb we ever stayed at! The cottage is just lovely, very spacious for the two of us, lots of romantic old-world charm without seeming outdated. We really appreciated all the lovely details Jane took care of. Only sad we didn't get to stay longer.

    Jenny2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is so cute and cosy, and perfectly placed for exploring the Peak District and the Amber Valley. Highly recommended!

    Sam2017-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was incredibly accommodating regarding arrival and check out times which was a great start but the cottage speaks for itself. Location allowed easy access to some of the best areas of the Peak District and the was so charming and cosy inside as well as being immaculately clean and tidy. Jane even left fresh orange juice, croissants and fresh local milk. The bed was super comfortable and we had some of the best sleep either myself or my girlfriend have had in ages. I couldn't recommend this stunning little cottage enough. We will totally be coming back again soon. Many many thanks!! :)

    Jacob2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's cottage is a cozy getaway just a few minutes walk away from the high peak trail. As soon as we walked in we fell in love with the atmosphere and found that Jane had gone out of her way to make her home even more welcome for us. The kitchen was fully equipped with a lovely fire in the living room. The bathroom, clean with a good pressured shower and a beautiful bedroom with a big cozy bed. There is also a cottage manual with lots of information on walks, restaurants and takeaways in the area. We'll definitely be back - and for longer!

    Juliette2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent cottage with fantastic facilities, lots of home comforts and a few special extra treats :-) TVs with Netflix and log burning fire useful for British weather. Fantastic value. Highly recommend.

  • Rose cottage is delightful full of charm and extra special little touches that go above and beyond what youd expect. A lovely place to stay. The pub across the road serves lovely food and the hosts are very welcoming.

    Yvonne2018-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely character filled cottage. The pictures and description completely undersold it. Some lovely little touches and attention to detail which made it an extra special stay. Although they caused us no issues at all, I can’t remeber if the stairs were mentioned in the description or not. If they weren’t, they could pose a slight issue for people who have any mobility issues. Great location for visiting Bakewell, Chatsworth House and other locations in the Peak District. I would love to stay here again if in the area.

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • Very comfortable stay. Quiet spot with great views. Homely feel with decent furniture and some beautiful artwork. Thanks

    Tom2017-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage. Warm and plenty of space for a family of 4. Clean facilities and good to have use of the washing machine and log burner. Kitchen is compact but well resourced.

    Hilary2018-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy and comfortable cottage - great value for money - well equipped, walking distance to Matlock bath centre - lovely log burner great to return to after a snowy walk - highly recommended

    Angela2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Anne is a fabulous host. Quick to respond with some lovely personal touches. She left us cookies and dog biscuits for our pug and us on the first day and happily advised on dog friendly eateries. The view is truly breath taking and well worth the hill! Its so close to everything but far enough away to get away from it all. Our first airbnb experience setting the bar very high! We cant wait to come again 💖

    Laura2018-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had lovely, comfortable stay at Painter's Cottage, especially when the wood burner took the chill off the November evenings. Ideally located up a (very steep) hill from Matlock Bath, to explore the surrounding towns and wonderful countryside. A compact but well kitted out kitchen was perfect for preparing simple family meals.

    Ian2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at the painters cottage over new years with a couple of friends and absolutely loved it. It's a really charming cottage and we'll equipped with everything you could need. We particularly enjoyed the wood burner and would definitely stay again. All I would say is if your driving that the satnav wasn't totally sure where it was so just keep going till you get to the dead end sign and it's on the row to the right of that you can't drive the last bit but parking on the road was fine.

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • Execellent little cottage in a great location to discover Derbyshire. Stayed 3 nights with family and would definitely stay again. Great communication with Rob both pre and during stay. Thanks again!

  • Outstanding location and beautiful cottage. Good sized kitchen, quaint but well stocked with equipment, cozy lounge with log burner and bright dining room leading to garden with spectacular views of the hills, bedrooms are a decent size with crisp white linen, huge freestanding bath! Tastefully decorated throughout. Thoughtful touches from the host. I could have moved in immediately! We will be back same time next year.

    Debra2017-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • The house is like a picture postcard. Small, but perfectly formed! Bags of character and a lovely, homely vibe. Such a nice space and the surroundings are beautiful too. Would highly recommend!

  • Cozy cottage, enjoyed our break. Good exercise walking up the hill!

    Jess2017-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely. Rob made everything very simple and provided lots of information about the cottage and the area. He also made staying with a baby and dogs not a hassle, which was great! Wirksworth is a wonderful little village, there is lots to see and do nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we just wished it could have been longer.

    Stella2017-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great little match box cottage! Lovely place to escape for a night or two. Lovely touch with the log fire and enjoyed the roll top bath too. Thanks

    Dominic2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Good cottage in lovely village location with lots of amenties on the doorstep. Pubs restaurants supermarket quaint shops and stunning walks straight from the door. Good value and host was good with questions etc. Welcome tray was a nice touch. If I had one criticism the garden furniture has seen better days but great to have outdoor space which was peaceful. We were 4 adults and a dog and there was plenty of room for us all. We also enjoyed a lovely french meal in the village and some very friendly pubs!

    Gary2018-05-21T00:00:00Z

World Heritage cottage in bustling Cromford Our house in North Street is a beautifully presented grade two listed terraced cottage set in a peaceful location in the historic village of Cromford. This charming cottage has 2 bedrooms, a modern bathroom, lounge with log burner and a dining kitchen.
North Street is a sympathetically restored 240 year-old terraced, former millworkers' cottage situated in the village of Cromford on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park . The cottage combines simple Georgian style with modern comforts and is perfect for those wishing to explore the picturesque Peak District. The sitting room is tastefully furnished with an impressive stone fireplace and wood burning stove for a chilly evening. The modern kitchen provides all the cooking essentials as well as a table for dining. Original steep stairs lead to the first floor where there is a beautiful double bedroom with a spiral wooden staircase leading to the second floor, charming bedroom and bathroom with generous walk-in shower. Our outside bench is at the side of the cottage where you can relax to the sound of the spring filling the stone well. We Provide: All bedding, hand towels, bath towels, tea towels, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, toilet rolls and starter pack for the burner/stove.
Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history and exploring the beautiful Peak District. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford is famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. North Street is the earliest planned industrial housing in the world and the finest of its type, built in 1771 by Richard Arkwright to house the workers from his pioneering cotton mill. Surrounded by countryside, it is at the heart of a designated World Heritage Site. Cromford offers a selection of quality bistros, pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal. You can also enjoy a visit to nearby: Matlock where antique hunters can enjoy a range of interesting shops (3 miles) Matlock Bath where the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland (1 mile) Chatsworth House & Country Estate (10 miles) Bakewell, a charming market town and home of the Bakewell pudding! (10 miles)
  • This is a lovely and quaint period property, great for our long weekend away! Karen was great at responding to messages including allowing us to drop off some food for the fridge early and the log burner is ideal if the nights are cold.

    Ben2018-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Karen’s cottage was the perfect place to stay in Cromford. Very quiet and comfortable with everything you would need. The stairs were very steep but no problem, and the shower was great! Lovely historic building within reach of good walks and all that Cromford has to offer! Highly recommended!

    Catherine2018-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • My sister, niece and I went on a holiday to visit family this wee cottage was perfect for us. Karen was always available to contact should we need her and the space felt like home as soon as we entered. Fantastic well appointed spot!!

    Margaret2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at Karen’s beautiful cottage. It was very well located, cosy and had everything we needed. It’s located at the end of a quiet historic street and there are lots of places to eat and drink moments away. Highly recommended!

    Stephen2018-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cromford, an excellent base to access the White Peak from. The cottage is lovely and Karen and Rob were welcoming and very helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

  • We had a lovely stay in Karen's cottage! The cottage is very pretty and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is well stocked so you can enjoy a meal in. Cromford itself has one or two places worth visiting (the bookshop we would highly recommend - such character!) and the cottage is perfectly positioned to explore the Peak District. We didn't meet Karen but she was on hand throughout our stay for tips!

  • We enjoyed a lovely stay in Matlock with Sharron. The flat was immaculate with a stunning view. Sharron said hi on our arrival and made it clear that we could call if we needed anything but that we would be left alone if we wanted to be. We were out most of the time and didn't make full use of the well equipped kitchen - it would have been perfect for a longer break self catering. The view is stunning! and the drive up to the house is quite exciting too! I would definitely come back if I am in the area again. Thanks!

    Byron2015-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful comfortable stay in a beautiful home. With spectacular views and a lovely host. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to everyone.

    Vikash2016-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sharron was a fantastic host and the apartment was perfect for us both in terms of size and location. We'll definitely visit again if the over excited children haven't put her off.

  • Lots of room and a lovely view, what more could you ask for

    Jake2018-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful flat with beautiful views. My husband and our baby daughter had a lovely stay. The flat is very clean and big with everything you need. Really convenient location to explore the village and the Peak District generally (we travelled by car). Thank you Sharron!

  • The place at Matlock Bath is a gem -- the views are gorgeous and the location spectacular. The apartment has all necessary conveniences and very quiet. Thank you Sharron for being an amazing host. We had a very relaxing stay. Hope to be back again.

Please see video: (Website hidden by Airbnb) A very arty, historic, unique little space. Own entrance and full private use of your lounge/bed settee, kitchen/diner and shower/bathroom. Stocked kitchen ideal for cooking. So no need to buy everything. Please replace anything excessively used. Tea and coffee including fresh coffee. Hand blender. Pestle and mortar. Some herbs growing in the garden. Cottage is central village on the main road. Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village full of shops, pubs, restaurants. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre. No need to use your car if you want to explore the surroundings. Welcome to store bikes around the back. For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee Alexa tv with Netflix (use guest account), Amazon prime and iPlayer and log burner, full working kitchen with sink, new induction hob and oven with bistro table and chairs plus monks pew seat and a wet room/ shower with toilet and sink. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. I’m not one for ironing but it’s all laundered immediately after each stay. Please note that I have the whole holiday cottage available for rent for larger families at school holiday times., however, by renting just the small snug, I can offer a cost effective stay to couples and single travellers. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. My garden at back. Which you can share which is ideal for dogs and has a Moroccan gazebo, decking seating area, pizza oven (by request extra charge)and fire pit. This is located around the back of the property, down the drive. It is secure for dogs to play in. I will be in it most of the time with my dogs. You can pull up in the pavement outside to drop of luggage. Free parking is across the road also. I’ve had really good feedback with the snug but please note it is on the main road (but double glazing is good and your right in the hub of it all), the roads tend to quiet down in the evening and it’s quieter than Matlock a Bath. I’ve had mostly 5 stars for cleanliness for the snug and its bedding which I spend a good deal of time on, however a few people who seem to want to find fault and appear to be ‘looking’ for any slight defect have spoilt a few reviews, therefore if you know you are extreme in your cleanliness requirements and are wanting fine hotel quality, please leave that pressure to someone else. For the rest it’s all hot washed, clean and ready for lovely happy appreciate Airbnb guests who I will take pleasure in hosting and helping with any of your requirement.
Good public transport right outside, train station near by. Lots of shops, pubs restaurants on your doorstep. Cromford beautiful UNESCO village with canal and Historical mill and buildings. Lots of restaurants, pubs. An amazing butchers and deli right across the road. Convenience store. Paper shop. Postoffice. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • As a non driver a great location for public transport. Deborah is an excellent host. It's right on a main road on a hill and on arrival was worried about road noise but it was never a problem. Never fully mastered the 'Amazon TV' but got BBCs, Sky News....,but never ITVs. Probably says more about my 68 years than the TV. Butcher, newsagent and general store almost opposite.

    Spencer2018-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah is a lovely host, she makes sure you have everything you need and is very friendly and attentive, she even took the time to show me round the village on my first night. The snug is quirky and authentic and the pull out bed is very comfortable. There is beautiful countryside a short drive away. Kitchen is well kitted out for your cooking needs. Great stay.

    Liz2018-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Deborah's place. The bed was comfy and the facilities excellent. There was a great shared space at the back of the building which we were welcome to use. Cromford was busier than we expected with quite a bit of holiday traffic (our fault for not doing our research) but it has a good selection of food shops and pubs and the excellent Scarthin Books nearby

    Martin2018-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah was a very welcoming host. Perfect place to stay for a weekend in the peaks. Cute dogs

    Devina2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah is an amazing host and her cosy place is wonderfully located in the middle of Cromford. It had everything we needed for a weekend away in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside!

    Fiona2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • A small but perfectly sized little place for a short get away for two. Had everything we needed for our trip, even providing little extras like spices for cooking! Deborah was a fantastic host, super helpful and generous, offering us the garden space to use also during our stay. The snug is in close proximity to lots of local attractions, both driving and walking distance so there was plenty to do and see.

    Frances2018-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay, comfortable, well equipped and so close to the centre of Cromford. I had a lovely time and had the pleasure of meeting Deborah

Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of The Derbyshire Peak District, an ideal location for walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. The cottage, originally a quarryman's dwelling, has been fully refurbished and is maintained to a high standard. The accommodation: double and single bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and TV lounge. Outside is a decked sitting area. Guests also have use of a croquet lawn, boules court and parking in the garden of Babington House next door.
  • Lovely, clean, cosy and well appointed little house. Made for a very enjoyable and memorable stay. We will be back.

    Edward2018-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting and great views of Wirksworth and surrounding hills to wake up to. Charming, friendly little town. Hosts were very kind and helpful. Walks easily accessible from cottage or easy links to elsewhere in Peaks. Fascinating quarry partly converted into a park at the top of the hill, also worth a visit.

    Thomas2018-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolute gem of a cottage. Anne is a lovely host and very welcoming. The place was spotless and all the little things were there for a weekend away. It was cosy yet spacious and the attic room has great views over Wirksworth. It’s close enough to the local Co-op, and although we didn’t have chance to try the local restaurants they are all within a few minutes walk. The cottage was easily found and the parking is literally about 30 meters up the hill from the front door. We will definitely be recommending this to family and friends and we’ll be returning again soon.

    Graham2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • We received a very warm welcome from Anne and her husband. The cottage has been beautifully renovated, is in a perfect location and was spotless. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay

    Andrew2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Wirksworth and loved being able to stay in such a cosy space in the snow! The views out of the kitchen and bedroom windows are spectacular and there are lots of sweet spaces to relax in. Wirksworth itself has some great shops - we recommend the bakery and butcher's! There are also some really beautiful walks close by. The only difficult thing is driving up the hill to park your car!

    Abi2018-03-18T00:00:00Z

If you turn left out the front door you are in central Wirksworth within seconds, turn right and head up the hill to explore the countryside and walking routes. • Cosy Cottage is just that - cosy. It's a great little house in a great location, perfect for exploring the Peak District. I had no problems parking on surrounding streets (no restrictions in the marketplace on Sunday, and a combination of Harrison Drive on-street parking, and the free car park a few minutes walk away on Canterbury Road the rest of the time). I'm certain that I will be returning.

    Mat2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy cottage on the edge of the Pak District. Welcomed by a nice box of M & S biscuits. Even the neighbours were lovely too! The only thing we could fault it for was not having WiFi.

    Louise2016-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • We found this cottage very sweet, everything was lovely and clean, newly decorated including new carpets and furniture! Small, but had everything you could need, good well equipt kitchen. Very nice to find a french stick and apple pie to welcome us. The cottage is in a great location, lovely village and close to some great walks. On a bit of a hill to get to it which was fine for us. Thank you Sally

  • Easily the best value for solo travelers. This is a quiet, peaceful place. Not for party animals, it's truly tranquil!

  • If you are looking for a quiet, clean house which is also close to lovely Matlock,-this is it! This Airbnb is perfectly located for a stay in Matlock. Close to the main street, restaurants and attractions but very quietly tucked behind it. There is no street parking directly in front of it, but for long stays, permits might be purchased. Just a few minutes from the house is a large, secure station car park, with reasonable rates ( £1 overnight, and hourly rates during the day- which I thought were very reasonable) The room is large, with a comfortable bed, wardrobes, cosy armchair, and tea and coffee-making facilities plus biscuit snacks. Everything was clean and bright, including the shower and bathroom, and fluffy towels are supplied.

Wensley is a hamlet in Derbyshire, England. It is located 3 miles (4.8 km) from Matlock, on the B5057. Chatsworth is 17 minutes drive away. Haddon Hall 20 minutes. Wensley is rather unique and is one of only a handful of Derbyshire villages whose names have Pagan origins. The village takes its name from Woden, the Norse God of War and there has been a settlement here since pre-Anglo-Saxon times. This `Sacred Grove of Wodan` is described in the Domesday Book of 1086 as `Wodnesleie`. It was known as `Weddenesley` in 1240, `Wedunsleye` in 1330, and finally recorded as Wensley in 1446 The villagers in Wensley were employed in the lead mining industry in the fields around the village in the 18th and 19th century. Situated in the Peak National Park, it is surrounded by rolling countryside. A great area for walkers and cyclists, or to simply relax in the quiet sunshine (sunshine not guaranteed ;>) http://www.aboutderbyshire.co.uk/cms/places/wensley.shtml
  • Peter is the nicest, most caring host. We stayed with him and his lovely dog for a whole week in May. He provided us with everything we needed - We often got freshly baked bread in the morning and sometimes enjoyed a film together in the evening. The room has an amazing view over Wensley and the national park with beautiful walks and hiking trails that are definetly worth trying out. Definite recommendation!

  • 'Room with a view' was an understatement... fabulous to wake up to, what a way to start the day ! Host very accommodating and friendly, couldn't do enough to make our stay any better. Even Chip couldnt have been any more friendly and chilled 🐶. Perfect location if you seek peace and quiet with just a short drive to many of the tourist attractions in the area. Lots of things to see and do. Seek out the public footpath to the rear of Druid Inn for a fantastic hidden walk and take a step right back in history!

  • Peter is very friendly host an he even prepared us a breakfast! He had to wait for our check in till midnight without complaint and made us feel like home! Very cosy room and warm house in a naturally beautiful location. However the highlight of our stay was his very well behaved (and lovely!) dog, we loved him!

  • Peter is one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever met! Me and my friend had the best time staying with him and Chip! Can’t reccomend his home enough. There’s homemade bread, fantastic conversation, and beautiful scenery, what more could you want? The bed was also very comfortable. Thanks for a great stay, Peter! We’ll be back!

    Megan2018-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Peter was a great host, very welcoming and helpful. Beautiful area. Couldn't ask for better view and very convenient to tourist attractions in the Peak District.

  • Peter is a very easy going and friendly person who is very suited to hosting people in his lovely home. He makes you feel at home and relaxed and is very willing to help with anything you may need. We had a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommended.

  • We had a great time at Peter's place. He was a wonderful host. We enjoyed staying at his nice home and discovering the beautiful countryside. Peter showed us around and was happy to spend time with us and even introduce us to his amazing friends. Thanks a lot for the great time.

    Steve2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Peter was a great host, very kind, thoughtful and helpful. We absolutely loved our stay and if we stay in the area again we know where we will look to stay first! Peter also gave us really good recommendations of where we could go and how we could spend our time, which was very helpful :)

  • Lovely cottage in beautiful setting, perfect for country walks and visiting the Peaks. Really delightfully decorated cottage, with thoughtful inclusions and everything you could possibly need - and importantly shower was very good! About a 10/15min to the centre of Wirksworth, which has a fantastic French restaurant (that we visited twice!). (Hidden by Airbnb) maps gets you pretty much there - hard to see the church from written instructions, it's just the corner of the road with tons of huge trees. Thanks Tiina for a lovely stay!

    Louise2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage! Tiina was very helpful and came out to meet us as it was dark when we arrived!! Everything we needed was provided. The cottage was very clean and in a lovely location! Even though it poured with rain for most of the Saturday we managed to take it easy and unwind! We left on Sunday feeling very relaxed! Would certainly recommend it and would love to return one day ( when it's not raining!!)

  • Beautifully presented cottage in a gorgeous setting. We had a really relaxing holiday. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable with the added bonus of a lovely little garden. We will definitely stay here again.

  • A spotlessly well - kept cottage perfect for a peaceful Peak District break for two. It was lovely to wake up to green views and have the whole place to ourselves for lazy breakfasts and cosy nights in. The kitchen has everything you could need, the bathroom is very clean and shower powerful, the bed super cosy and it's all just a short walk from the the pubs of Wirksworth. All Tiina's maps and walking recommendations in the cottage are very helpful too, you dont need to buy your own. We loved Stannage Edge! If you're planning on having takeaway one night, be warned that lots of the local ones are closed on Tuesdays! Overall the perfect stay.

    Clemmie2015-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy, comfortable and beautifully decorated cottage. Compact and bijoux but perfectly formed with really lovely interior. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the lounge and bedroom really comfortable. We arrived on a sunny evening and loved sitting in the front garden, watching the sun set. The Freeview TV and choice of a few DVDs was very welcome after a hard day's walking. The cottage is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Wirksworth which has a good range of restaurants and bars. I would recommend Le Mistral and the Feathers Inn. We appreciated the recommendations for circular walks along with maps. No hesitation in recommending Tiina's lovely cottage and we will be back!

    Debbie2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Despite terrible weather over the weekend, our stay at this beautiful cottage was idyllic. The photos don't do it justice - it's amazing! I will be recommending it to many of my friends and family. Thanks, Tiina!

    Rebecca2014-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Hillside Cottage is in a lovely spot with great views out over the countryside - especially from the loo! It has been very well designed and decorated and there is everything there that you could possibly need including milk, tea and coffee on arrival and a cupboard with basic condiments. Wirksworth is an interesting town and although it is a bit of a hike it isn't too far to walk in for the evenings to find some really good local pubs and a couple of restaurants. There is also a good selection of shops including grocers, butchers etc. Would definitely recommend it as a great place to stay.

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from the cottage. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill.
The Hayloft has been carefully created out of a mellow stone hay loft in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely vaulted lounge, dining and kitchen area. The lounge has a comfortable settee and chair, flat screen T.V. D.V.D, SKY and Wi-Fi together with a glowing inset electric fire. The superb kitchen has quality fitted units, halogen hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and automatic washer/dryer. A vaulted double bedroom. An adjoining bathroom with bath/hand held shower and W.C.
Don't forget to visit nearby Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Peak Steam Railway. Other treats include Calver Edge's breathtaking views, Monsal Dale's wonderful waterfalls, the 'little Switzerland' of Matlock Gorge, Sunday breakfast in the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and the ultimate of meals in Stone's restaurant in Matlock. Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the little patio as the swifts and house martins swoop overhead
  • The hayloft is a great location and was really convenient for us as we were going to a wedding in Matlock. The walking near the loft is just stunning and we accidentally ended up taking Wendy and John's dog for a walk (or he took us really!) Wendy and John were great hosts and answered all of my questions quickly.

  • Lovely get away in the beautiful countryside, felt very private and peaceful. Amazing view from the door while having a brew in the morning was perfect 👍

  • Great location, nice and quite so very relaxing. Hosts were welcoming but left us too it. A very friendly Cat which we loved having around the place.

  • The Hayloft was the perfect location for a long weekend away. Great location close to Matlock and very peaceful. Good for walking with lots of beautiful scenery nearby, and nice local pubs. The Hayloft itself was well laid out and warm even in the snow! Wendy and her family were fantastic hosts. We hope to be back soon!

    Helen2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, such a lovely spot, great facilities. Wrens singing in the morning, inquisitive black cat, sunlight beaming though the glass door. Friendly and respectful hosts - what more can you ask for.

    Pete2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great little loft conversion. Perfect space for a weekend away. Only downside is the distance to things means driving but if you just want a secluded retreat then you’ll struggle to find a better choice.

    Will2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • The haybarn was fairly easy to locate and is just outside Matlock. Great to have an allocated parking space right outside. The apartment itself is very cosy and homely with the wooden beams, comfy lounge area and subtle lighting but was plenty big enough for two of us. It was well equipped and tastefully decorated. We were able to get lamb and/or fresh eggs from the farm and on arrival were welcomed by Mars Bar, the friendly black cat! Wendy was there to help as needed but this is a great place for a private break in a convenient location for the Peak District.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate newly renovated bathroom is for your private use. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (all homemade where possible). You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.
  • Andrew and his wife were genuinely welcoming and friendly. Great advice on the best local pubs to use. I was made to feel as though I was at a friends home and shared some interesting conversation. Would defenitely stay with Andrew again if travelling in this area and would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

    Michael2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Andy and Sue's place is perfect for a nice picturesque trip to the lovely Peak District. They offered everything that you would need for a comfortable and easy stay and the place was exactly as it is described. Great local knowledge from the best village pubs and places to eat to really helpful and extensive recommendations for getting out into the countryside. Really appreciated the accommodating check-in, too, after travelling up late into the evening. Overall a great weekend.

  • Andrew and Sue are great hosts. Made me feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend you stay here

    Mark2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Had a really lovely stay! Sue and Andrew are amazing hosts and have a great house, with everything you would ever need if you were going on a business trip or holiday! It’s located near the Peak District and by a reservoir which makes it great for walking, but also not too far from Derby if you want to go shopping. The cost of stay is amazing value, and included in that is breakfast which consisted of fruit, tea/coffee, toast with (homemade) jam and cereal. Overall I would highly recommend staying with Sue and Andrew. It ticks all the boxes when it comes to thinking about a great bed and breakfast!

    Tommy2018-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for the week on my own whilst attending an art workshop a few miles away. Thank you both for a lovely week, you made me feel very welcome and relaxed in your home. The house was very clean and nothing was too much trouble. Andrew was very knowledgeable about the local area, so I will be back with my husband to explore the area again. Thank you again.

    Judy2018-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • I was on a long drive and just needed an overnight to rest. Staying here was perfect, and the host, Andrew, obviously prides himself in providing a first rate experience, and my stay met my needs exactly. The description in the listing is accurate too.

    David2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was my fourth stay with Andrew and Sue and i hope not the last. I can only reiterate what I have already said about Andrews. A warm welcome into a lovely home. A spotlessly clean room and a private bathroom. I would recommend staying here to anyone, I know I will be going back when next working in the area.

  • Would highly recommend. Great location just 10 minutes drive to Matlock and 30 minutes to Bakewell, Chatsworth and Dovedale. Extremely quiet cottage to use as a base for the peaks and Derbyshire and perfect for switching off for a couple of days and nights. All the amenities you’d expect, the place is spotless and bed very comfy. Stephen was a great host who gave several local tips including things to do, places to visit, restaurants and nearby walks. Something for everyone. Plus, the goats are great!

  • Great stay! The place was perfect and Stephen was very helpful. The waterfall walk was lovely and local curry restaurant also really good. Would love to visit again!

    Jordan2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Stephen's place - they have been mentioned previously in reviews but the little one loved being able to see the goats in their pen, and the food/drink left for us was also a really thoughtful touch. The place itself is lovely and secluded, and had a really nice modern and unique feel to it - highly recommended if wanting to get away from it all, or have a base to visit surrounding Peak District areas.

It’s not too far off the main routes, but far enough for some peace and quiet. We could not fault the accommodation, and Stephen gave us some pointers on things to do and places to eat which helped as we hadn’t made many plans before our trip.

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes; Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall. In 1724, the hall was split it into two halves. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with its deep history and authentic English country charm.
The hidden secret of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the famous Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall was a royalist stronghold and it is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from the hall to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724, the hall was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously known as a highly regarded country house hotel. Meanwhile, the other untouched side seems to have been forgotten over the years, until now. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with authentic and fascinating English country charm, plus a deep history that we love to share with our guests. Riber is a hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales, situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire.
Riber is a tiny hamlet, just two miles from the spa town of Matlock, 5 minutes by car from Cromford and Matlock Bath. Local attractions include Gullivers Kingdom, The Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth House (home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) and Haddon Hall. Bakewell and Ashbourne are both a short car journey away.
  • We loved our stay. The stunning house is in a beautiful location. Alison is a friendly, welcoming, very attentive host. Breakfast was delicious. We'd love to return!

  • Anyone who has a feeling for history will love staying at Riber Hall. It is a beautiful old house in a marvellous setting in the hamlet of Riber, which has wonderful views all around. The bedroom is a large and lovely room with stone mullioned windows, and the wood-panelled dining room is highly atmospheric. Our hosts Alison and Nick were extremely friendly and helpful, and were very happy to share their passion for the house and its history.

  • This has to be one of the most unique places on Airbnb. Where else can you stay in a 700 year old house where Mary Queen of Scots was held with touches that are a 5 star hotel would be pleased to have. Add in very friendly hosts, a great breakfast with local sausages and bacon and amazing views and you have exceptional value. I would have been a great deal at twice the price. If you are in the area you will miss a fantastic experience if you do not stay here

    Dave2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Expect to be wowed. This is an exceptional experience.

  • My girlfriend and I had an absolutely fantastic stay at Ribor Hall Manor! The Manor is in a stunningly beautiful location that's easy enough to get to with a car, and Alison was very helpful and hospitable when helping us arrive and check in. She was also very helpful when recommending local pubs to eat or walks to go on that are all a reasonably short drive from the house. Our room made the weekend feel all the more special and all of the facilities added to that. The house has a real character to it, and we really enjoyed eating Nick's great breakfasts (including hand made sausages from down the road) in the cozy dining room. Alison and Nick were great hosts and I'd definitely recommend this airbnb to anyone who is looking for a special get away to the Peak District. Alex & Jocelyn

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Alison and Nick, such welcoming hosts and a really beautiful historic home. The room is huge and very well appointed, with a very comfortable bed- we slept well! Our 9 month old puppy was welcomed with open arms and had a bed set up next to the aga which he really enjoyed! The breakfast was delicious and set us up well for some serious walking. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending anyone to stay here, thank you! Eleanor, james and socks xx

  • We had a wonderful stay at Alison’s - a great room in a lovely house and a beautiful location. We only wish we had stayed longer!

    Augusta2018-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Riber was truly wonderful. We got a little lost finding the manor itself, but Alison was quick to answer our phone call and direct us. The manor itself is gorgeously restored with antiques and tasteful decor, and the guest room is huge and well furnished, with it's own bathroom, toilet, and powder room. A fine or ten minute walk from the manor, there's a lovely view of the castle and of Matlock, as well as a nice little forest path if you fancy a walk into town. Breakfast was huge, delicious, and all locally sourced. I was experiencing a migraine at the time, and our hosts very kindly gave us as much leeway as they were able so that I could recover before departing.

This cute barn is in the small village of Middleton, near Wirksworth. It has been carefully restored to provide a double bedroom on ground floor level with an ensuite toilet/shower room and upstairs is a double height beamed living room/kitchen.
The barn is an eighteenth century listed building adjacent but separate from our house. It has its own entrance. The living room is upstairs to take advantage of the wonderful views of the Derbyshire countryside. The downstairs bedroom with ensuite facilities is approached from a walled courtyard. There is a patio seating area behind the building.
The Peak District National Park starts almost on our doorstep. If you don't want to drive, there are walks available starting from our village. Cycle hire is available at Middleton Top on the High Peak Trail, just outside the village. The Trail is good for walking too and links to the National Stone Centre with cafe facilities, Black Rock ( more walks) and the Cromford Canal. Cromford Village has pubs, restaurants and Arkright's Mill, with shops, cafe and visitor interpretation centre. Two miles away is Carsington Water with cycling, walking and sailing on offer. Wirksworth, our local market town has eating and shopping facilities. It is an artists centre with an annual arts festival in September. The moorlands and dales of the Peak District are easily accessible. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are a short drive away. The Derwent Valley World Heritage site with pleasant river and canalside walks and its industrial archaeology is on hand.
  • Nice accomodation with fantastic views from the lounge. The two rooms are connected from the outside - not an issue but does mean getting your shoes on for a visit to the bathroom. Really enjoyed our stay and a great place to explore the Peak District from. Hosts are very friendly and we appreciated their hospitality.

    Stuart2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great base for exploring the Peaks. Comfortable, cosy and well equipped. Thanks both!

  • Thanks for a lovely weekend. Andrew and lynn were welcoming the their barn was lovely, cozy and warm. Quick email responded and helpful advice.

  • We had such a lovely stay at Andrew and Lynnes barn conversion. It was really clean, had everything we needed and was in a lovely location. I wouldn't recommend for people with mobility issues just as there are only outside steps to get to the sitting room but was totally fine for us :)

  • Lovely little out cottage, perfect for a little weekend away! Lovely hosts who have lots of advice on where to visit!

  • A lovely part of the Dales. Good little place and good value. Comfortable living room and bed. Good shower. Things to take note. Outside stairs with no hand rail so take care especially in the dark and when wet. House did have a little damp feel and I guess has suffered in the past with this. No instructions for using the hob etc.

Come and stay in my beautiful and stylish barn in the quirky little town of Wirksworth, known as the 'gem of the peaks'. The barn is situated in a quiet conservation area, minutes from the heart of Wirksworth with outstanding views of the town and countryside. Being on the edge of the Peak District, it is an ideal base for exploring this part of England, with great walks from the doorstep . Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other attractions are just a short drive away.
The barn is situated in the grounds of my home, but is completely independent and detached with its own entrance. Upstairs features an attractive large open plan living space comprising of a sitting area at one end, and a well equipped kitchen and dining area the other. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with ensuite shower rooms. The property offers a small outdoor terrace, ideal for having breakfast outside on a warm morning. For those with bikes there is a secure area for storage.
Crofter's Barn is up a steep hill close to the centre of Wirksworth and all its amenities, including an independent cinema and plenty of eating places. Star gaze, meditate or enjoy local fish and chips in our delightful shared folly located in the grounds, while taking in the incredible view. There is also a shared seating area which you are welcome to enjoy. Great walks from the doorstep and ideally situated for the Peak District's many attractions, with water sports on nearby Carsington Water. Wirksworth is a vibrant little market town with a selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Browse for antiques, books, toys and gifts. The town is also home to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, running seasonal weekend trains to Duffield. The annual Wirksworth Arts Festival held in September offers a mix of live performance, art trails and exhibitions.
  • A beautiful little cottage in a quiet market town. Very clean and cosy. Some lovely walks close by. Would highly recommend to others.

  • Gorgeous spot in a very pretty village.

    Sarah2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is perfect for a getaway with friends where you can forget about the outside world. The beds are super comfy, the showers very relaxing and it has everything you need. We especially liked the local edition monopoly! Highly recommend!

    Nicola2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Everything as described and lovely and clean. Nicola was a helpful host. The cottage was really well equipped and even had a sharp cooking knife which made cooking in that kitchen even more pleasurable!!

    Amy2018-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Crofter's Barn is in a terrific elevated location, so near the Star Disc and all the great trails around Wirksworth, as well as being within walking distance of the town itself which has a really bohemian, friendly, alternative feel to it. We instantly felt at home with Nicola's kindred nature and the Barn itself is very comfortable, peaceful, and immaculately kept. In typical Quirkworths style one enters through the bathroom which was awesome. Can't beat a day out trekking then showering even before a beer/wine! Nicola responded instantly to our messages and even transported us to and from the station. A great host.

    Doj2017-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay, very comfortable beds, everything you would need in the kitchen is provided and the bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch. Would recommend!

  • Lovely accommodation for our family of three! A great location (although the hill was steep) it was totally worth the adventure up the hill! Centrally located to shops yet secluded too! Thanks for having us we enjoyed our stay!

  • Location and accommodation were idyllic for me. Nicola was very helpful with walking knowledge of the area as well. Loved everything about the two nights spent there.

    Quiet retreat adjoining open countryside
The Anchorage cottage is situated in a peaceful corner of the village of Winster in the Peak District National Park adjoining open countryside. Photo 10. There are beautiful walks literally from the door step. Photo 11 is taken from the field behind the cottag (Website hidden by Airbnb) Dating from the 18th century this lead miners cottage has been sympathetically restored and now offers self catering accommodation throughout the year. The Double bedroom overlooks the village and surrounding countryside (Website hidden by Airbnb) The en suite shower room has a wash basin shower and toilet. The sitting room has a TV and a DVD player. The kitchen is separated from the sitting room by a breakfast bar. It is equipped with gas hob, fridge freezer, microwave and small cooker. Washing machine in separate building. The cottage is heated by gas central heating..There is a large well kept secure garden. Car parking on the premises, and free wifi.
  • Lovely cottage (open plan lounge kitchen downstairs, bedroom / kitchen upstairs) with cooking essentials and great gardens. Brilliant base for exploring the Peak District, c. 15mins to Bakewell, same again to Chatsworth house and c. 20mins to Matlock & Matlock Bath. John's a great host (had lots of good recommendations on activities) and was always quick to reply to emails.

    Sean2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • John’s little cottage was ideal for two, a cosy and well equipped place, good for a short stay. We enjoyed Johns beautiful garden in the evenings and John himself was a welcoming and helpful host.

    Simon2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • John was an amazing host, really friendly and approachable. Lovely cottage and beautiful gardens. Amazing location. We look forward to staying again

    Bobbie2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful helpful and informative hosts, beautiful garden,

    Pam2018-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is located in the garden of the host, John. It is directly opposite their house but you get access to their garden which was useful with our dog. The cottage is small but has everything you need. I found it very useful that the host leaves washing up liquid, soap and toilet roll and also puts linen on the bed and supplies towels. There are many beautiful walks nearby. The Old Bowling green pub is a two minute walk and serves wonderful food (be sure to book in before you stay, it’s very popular). We found we probably wouldn’t want to stay much longer than two nights as the cottage is small and we found we didn’t really want to sit in the small downstairs area for long. It’s perfect for a stay where you will be out a lot but there’s not much space to sit and relax on an evening and the downstairs is a little cold. The cooking facilities are limited and the parking is very tight. For the price though it’s in a lovely location and had what we needed. The host is very friendly and accommodating with useful info of the local area.

    Jeanette2018-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our time at Johns cottage and enjoyed meeting him with all his knowledge of the local area. We had a very relaxing time and enjoyed walking around the village.

A quaint characterful Georgian beamed cottage, a centre cottage of three, dating back over 200 years. Ideally located for local amenities, country walks, and attractions for all ages. Easy walking distance from the centres of both Matlock Bath and Cromford. Ideally located for using public transport being on bus routes and close to Matlock and Cromford stations. Spacious for 2, very comfortable for 4, and will sleep 6 using a small bedroom with bunk beds (adult size). 2 bathrooms. Pets accepted.
Set back from the main road off a small lane and nestling into the hillside.
The cottage is listed for being in a conservation area, and is situated within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The cottage is within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, pubs, and take-aways. Matlock Bath lies in a picturesque gorge, and in Victorian times the area was described as 'Little Switzerland'.
  • We had a lovely stay over Christmas. Found it easy to park at Masson Mill over the road and they kept the car park open for us on Christmas day. It is only around a 10 minute walk into Cromford. A very family friendly area.

    Faye2017-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Idiosyncratic (in the best way) old three story cottage full of fascinating corners to explore, and filled with thoughtful additions. Excellent value, exactly as advertised, with a cosy and lived-in feel, a great base to explore the region (we were there to explore the historic mills of the Derwent Valley) and Judie could not have been a more informative and friendly host. Cooks take note, the kitchen is excellently set up with everything you need.

    Andrew2017-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the quirkiness and homeliness of Bluebell Cottage. Judie was a fab host, very responsive and left flowers and chocs lovely touch. Great location too, good local amenities and lots info left from Judie too. Great place and will definitely return. Thanks Judie

    Mandy2018-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Bluebell Cottage is in a perfect location, we didn't use our car at all during our stay! It's a cute little place and Judie is a considerate host.

    Colette2018-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • As soon as we arrived we felt at home in the cottage, it was so welcoming. We ventured up the steps at the front into the woods for several circular walks which were great for our two dogs. The location is perfect for exploring the local landscape. Including following the river down to Cromford Mill and the canal. It's a great starting place for lots of adventures in the Peak District, and the house has everything you need to feel right at home.

    Helen2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Judie prepared this cottage with love and care, provided us readily with all sorts of information and answered our questions very quickly and in detail. She was also very comprehensive in regard to our three children. The house is very well situated for excursions to the southern and central part of the Peak District, as well as for excursions to Nottingham and Sherwood Forest. The house itself is very well equipped for daily life: you'll find everything you need in the kitchen (even an oven), there are games for the children, a washing-machine (very useful!), a dishwasher, very reliable wifi, dvd player, a hifi system and lots more... The house can absolutely be recommended for people who have a preference for historic, quirky houses in which not everything is perfect, of couse, but which captivate their guests by their historic charm...

    Bernadette2018-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Its a really nice cottage. only problem for us was the parking. We did know about this but did not think it would be a problem. We were making lots of trips back to the cottage per day. I think if you were going out all day and only needing to park up once a day this would be fine.

A spacious double room with ensuite and private entrance set in the delightful county town of Matlock in the heart of The Derbyshire Dales. Close to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other local attractions.
This spacious adaptable room has private access separate from the rest of the house and includes ensuite facilities. It features a comfortable double bed settee, plenty of usable shelving and a well sized fold out table. With the bed folded away the room offers a large and flexible space. As this is a well loved space it is a bit tatty in places - for instance the front door is in need of replacement and theres a patch of missing plaster in the ensuite, the shower unit is new but the cubicle needs new door seals. This is all reflected in the low price. It is clean and cosy however.
Matlock is an historic town in the heart of rural Derbyshire. There is much to experience locally; it is an ideal base from which to explore the Derbyshire Dales. The Derwent Valley World Heritage Site is close by, as is Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other attractions. The Derbyshire County Offices are 5 minutes away, as are two excellent real ale pubs (always consume alcohol responsibly...).
  • The accommodation is great and just as described. Bruce is a great host and was happy to help with our requests

    Jonathan2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • We were warmly welcomed by Bruce and the space is full of character! We enjoyed our stay, particularly the tour of Bruce's workshop:) He was very happy to turn on the heating as needed and the shower had a wonderful supply of hot water. There is also a beautiful walk from Bruce's place, which we thoroughly enjoyed. He recommended the walk and was a good host!

    Jennifer2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • I loved the old house with it's sweet little garden. Own exterior door was a plus and the shared kitchen was spacious with all expected gadgets. Bruce was not intrusive but we enjoyed a couple of interesting chats. As it was my first visit to Matlock he helped me choose a couple of places to visit. I would stay again.

    Sue2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The room was exactly as described and served me well for my short stay in Derbyshire. It's a little shabby but was clean, comfortable and met my needs. If you want to enjoy some beautiful countryside, you are but a short walk away. Finally, Bruce was a friendly, welcoming and attentive host.

    Charlotte2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Bruce's place was ideal for my stay. I was staying on a work trip for the Chatsworth Flower Show. Only 15 mins drive away. The room has shared access to the kitchen, but has a private entrance from the garden. The room is fairly basic, as stated in the description, but definitely all that I needed and expected. The bed is comfy, there is a small desk space, which was good for work. Good, hot shower, and also a washing machine and dryer, which I found very helpful, as this is not something always included with air bnb. Bruce said it was fine to use the kitchen and utensils for breakfast, which was handy. He was an engaging host and we had lively discussion! The location is great, 1 min drive up the hill, from the centre of Matlock. Wetherspoons at bottom of hill was ideal for budget evening meals. I'd definitely stay again :)

    Tom2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable room in a really interesting location. Friendly host. Very good value

    Susan2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal overnight stay, cheap and cheerful Bruce very welcoming

    Sharon2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Bruce's place is nice and tidy with a comfortable sofa bed. Parking is free just around the corner. Groceries stories are within walking distance down the hill. The washing machine and dryer are very handy, as we are travelling with a baby. The only thing that we find is that the Wi-FI signal is not very good in the room.

  • Absolutely fantastic cottage in a beautiful setting. It is so cosy and relaxing, the bed is amazingly comfy! The pub round the corner has awesome food (and the pudding servings are really generous!) and there are loads of great walks and places to visit. Hugely recommend staying here if you want a cosy stay in the Peak District. P.S. Katie is so friendly and helpful and was in touch to make everything so easy.

  • Super quaint cottage in a lovely little village - gorgeous garden at the end of the path

    Paul2018-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot overstate how much we enjoyed staying in Katie's cottage! Winster is a beautiful place, and the cottage had everything we needed (they really thought of everything!). The bed is super comfortable, the wifi is fast, and you are surrounded by amazing views and quiet! It is a great getaway, and we will definitely be back to stay again. By the end of the three days we weren't ready to leave. Parking can be tricky, but we quickly figured out where to park just a short walk from the cottage.

    Emma2018-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful, cosy cottage and is a perfect place for a relaxing getaway!

    Bell2018-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We have to say that this was an incredible find and excellent value. We were after a place to stay Friday – Monday, so that we could explore the Peaks, despite the heavy snow forecast. Katie was a wonderful host who laid out treats for our arrival, which was a lovely surprise and fabulous start to our mini break. Every little detail in the cottage had been considered and the heating was on when we arrived. For us (two adults and a dog) there was nothing that hadn’t been thought of. The cottage was cosy and homely, the sofa and the bed were both comfy and clean. There were fresh towels and Molton Brown toiletries available for our use, which was another lovely, unexpected surprise. Tucked away in the bedroom was a selection of books, a yoga mat and a hair dryer which was great as I had forgotten to bring mine. I also enjoyed Katie’s artwork and pottery and other original pieces placed around the cottage. Katie and Tim had put together a useful welcome pack that gave us all the info we needed to operate the cottage, i.e. the fire and heating etc. It also had really handy info about the village and walking nearby. The cottage is located near a super pub, very welcoming and dog friendly, serving lovely food. A local shop and post office was just at the bottom of the road too. We visited, Matlock, Bakewell, Dovedale and Cratcliffe – all nearby. I would not hesitate to recommend Katie’s cottage to anyone, it was perfect. We have told our friends and family and look forward to visiting again in the near future. Thanks again for sharing your cottage with us.

We had a lovely time here. The location was great, very close to great walking paths and good views. The cottage itself was well equipped and Annie was a great host. She was very considerate and went out of her way to help us. Overall great experience

We had such a great time!! Mister Mannion welcomed us to the house when we arrived in the evening, showed us around and gave us information about the area. We came to the peak district looking for green views and lots of water but we were overwhelmed by what we got! Waking to such green outstanding views from your bedroom was such a treat!! Traveling just a few minutes away we got to have walks in the woods, climbing on cliffs (even with the kids), walking on dams and riding on an underground boat! ALL IN ALL, WE HAD A LOVELY TIME!! Hope we can come again...

We had a great stay in Swallows Cottage. Izzy was a wonderful host, providing delicious shortbread and advice on places to eat. The surrounding area is beautiful, with great walks directly from the cottage. The cottage was very nicely decorated, making for a very comfortable stay. A peaceful and lovely place.
